Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
The first and only season of the Christopher Eccleston/Ninth Doctor era of ‘Doctor Who’ is undeniably a significant season in the history of the TV show. After sixteen years of being off-air from TV screens, ‘Doctor Who’ returned triumphantly in its new series under Russell T. Davies’ reign.
Series 1 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series is very special to me. I checked out the first half of Series 1 in 2005 by watching ‘Dalek’ first and ‘Aliens of London’/’World War Three’ afterwards. It was in 2006 I checked out the second half of Series 1 and took the ‘Doctor Who’ TV series more seriously. 🙂
My life hasn’t been the same since, and I owe it to checking out the ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. It was through the original Russell T. Davies era that I grew to enjoy and love ‘Doctor Who’, appreciating how the show worked.
Rose Tyler served as the template for how ‘Doctor Who’ companions should work from hereon, especially when seeing her fleshed out as a character with having a family and being from a London council estate. Rose is also the very first TV companion that formed romantic feelings for the Doctor.
In terms of having my favourite stories in Series 1 of new ‘Doctor Who’, as well as ‘Dalek’ and ‘Aliens of London’/’World War Three’, there’s ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’, ‘Boom Town’ and ‘Bad Wolf’/’The Parting of the Ways’. I often enjoy revisiting these ‘Doctor Who’ TV stories now and again.
Most significantly, Christopher Eccleston should be commended for bringing the ‘Doctor Who’ TV show back to life, especially for contemporary audiences in 2005. His enthusiasm and boldness in playing the Ninth Doctor shines throughout. It’s a pleasure to check out his stories because of that. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

I agree with your last paragraph and I’m glad that Eccleston has finally reprised the 9th Doctor for Big Finish. Thank you, Tim, for your summary.

Hi scifimike,
Glad you agree with what I’ve said in the last paragraph of my summary on Series 1 of the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series. Yes, I’m pleased Christopher Eccleston has been able to reprise the role of the Ninth Doctor in the Big Finish audios. He seems to enjoy doing them too.
Many thanks for your comments.
Tim 🙂
