Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

Many would argue that Colin Baker’s era as the Sixth Doctor is one of the shortest eras in ‘Doctor Who’, especially since he did at least two seasons in the TV series. Thankfully, Colin Baker has been able to make so many ‘Doctor Who’ stories through the Big Finish audios compared to the TV series.

It’s unfortunate Colin Baker’s era of ‘Doctor Who’ was under pressure by the BBC in the 1980s, as they didn’t see the potential the show had in being a success in the long run. Had Colin been allowed to explore more with playing his Doctor, he probably would have beaten Tom Baker’s record. 🙂

I’m lucky in having been able to meet Colin Baker at conventions, sharing how much I’ve enjoyed his stories in the TV series and the Big Finish audios. I have my favourite ‘Doctor Who’ audios by Big Finish featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, such as ‘The Reaping’, ‘The Juggernauts’ and more. 🙂

I’ve also had a chance to do my take on the Sixth Doctor in stories by me on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, including ‘Fred and the Doctor’ and the ‘Zorbius’ story ‘The End Dilemma’. I’ve enjoyed writing for the Sixth Doctor and Peri recently in ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ and hope to write for them again soon.

Them as well as Frobisher, who is a penguin companion that appeared in the ‘Doctor Who’ comics with the Sixth Doctor. As well as Peri and Mel, the Sixth Doctor has had plenty of companions in the Big Finish audios like Evelyn, Constance, Charley and Flip. A lot of these companions are very good. 🙂

From the TV series alone, Colin Baker’s Sixth Doctor could be described as the brash and unlikeable Doctor. But from enjoying the Big Finish audios, Colin Baker’s Doctor is not that. He’s been allowed to mellow in terms of his character. He often comes across as cheerful, even if there’s a fire in them.

I greatly appreciate how the Sixth Doctor has been able to expand in terms of his character. I’m sure Colin Baker is very grateful to Big Finish for the chance to do that, since he was denied that in the TV series. I’m looking forward to hearing more of the Sixth Doctor on audio and explore more of his character.
