Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
When I chat to some people who have seen ‘Doctor Who’, very often they would say Tom Baker is their Doctor. With the long scarf, his bonkers eccentric humour and being ‘teeth and curls’, Tom Baker’s Fourth Doctor has made a significant impact on the series, having played the role for seven years. 🙂
Whilst I rate Peter Davison, David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker more highly as the Doctor, I can’t deny Tom Baker is one of the best Doctors ever featured in the TV series. William Hartnell started it all and Patrick Troughton introduced ‘regeneration’, but Tom Baker is clearly a super popular Doctor.
In his seven-year era, the first three seasons have gothic horror themes under the Philip Hinchcliffe/Robert Holmes reign. By the time Graham Williams became producer, the show adopted a comedic tone, especially in Tom Baker’s sixth season with Douglas Adams as script editor.
‘The Key to Time’ season is my favourite out of the entire Tom Baker era. ‘The Robots of Death’, ‘City of Death’ and ‘The Keeper of Traken’ are three of my favourite stories with the Fourth Doctor. I know people regard the Philip Hinchcliffe/Robert Holmes era highly, but I’m not a fan of that era as other fans are.
I’ve been fortunate in being able to meet Tom Baker twice at conventions, including at ‘Timey Wimey 1’ in Brighton in November 2014 and at ‘London Comic Con Spring’ in March 2019. They’ve been brief meetings with Tom, but I’m glad I’ve had photos with him. Something I didn’t think would happen.
I’ve had the chance to write Tom Baker’s Doctor in stories like ‘Foundations of Life’ with the Fourth Doctor, the first Romana and K-9. I’ve included the Season 16 TARDIS team in ‘The Five Doctors at Christmas’, and I’ve written the ‘Zorbius’ story ‘The Hunters of Doom’ featuring the Fourth Doctor, Leela and K-9.
Recently, I’ve written my own trilogy of Short Trip stories featuring the Fourth Doctor and Private James Darby (as played by Timelord007), including ‘The Dimension Serpents’, ‘Lady and the Soldier’ and ‘The Two Sarah Janes’. There’s no denying that Tom Baker’s Doctor has made an impact on me. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
