‘RETURN OF THE FLYING DUTCHMAN’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This ‘Spider-Man’ story features our web-slinging hero dealing with the menace of the Flying Dutchman ship. Hmm, I wonder if Mawdryn is on board that ship. After all, the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘Mawdryn Undead’ was inspired by the legend of the Flying Ducthman. This should be so interesting.

Oh wait! The Flying Dutchman is actually an illusion created out on the open seas. And the villain happens to be Mysterio. Ah well! Nice to have Mysterio back in the ‘Spider-Man’ series! How he escaped from prison is anybody’s guess. This is 60s Adam West logic in the 1960s ‘Spider-Man’ show.

The story also features Captain Birdseye. Yeah, I’m sure he has a proper name but that’s how my Dad described him so that’s what I’m calling him here. I’m surprised he didn’t offer fish and chips to Spidey in this story. 😀 Mysterio also has these two crooks assist him to steal some pirate treasure. 🙂

Still a better plot than the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Curse of the Black Spot’! It does get a little silly when Spidey fights against Mysterio and his goons with web-made sword. I goggled my eyes at that! Spidey catches the criminals but Jameson isn’t happy that the Flying Dutchman ship was all a hoax. 🙁

‘Return of the Flying Dutchman’ rating – 7/10
