‘FAREWELL PERFORMANCE’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

In this ‘Spider-Man’ story, Spidey gets involved with a haunted theatre that’s about to close down. This also might be one of the rarest ‘Spider-Man’ stories to feature villains who don’t turn out to be villains at all. I couldn’t help be disappointed when it all seemed to be resolved so quickly in the end.

The people involved with the Old Castle Theatre include Blackwell, who is a famous magician; Emily Thorndike and James Boothe. For a while, it does seem like Blackwell wants to prevent the theatre being torn down for sinister purposes. But it seems Blackwell and his players are ‘mere’ entertainers.

They do scare builders trying to bring down the theatre with ‘magic’ tricks and they do intimidate Spider-Man when he investigates the theatre, but they don’t cause any harm. I’m not sure how they were able to perform those incredible magic tricks. It’s never explained in the tale itself here. Hmm!

Jameson gets persuaded by Emily Thorndike and James Boothe to support the campaign in keeping the Old Caste Theatre going. At first, Jameson was in support of the theatre being torn down. But when he hears a fake story about Spidey wanting to tear the theatre apart, he has a change of heart.

‘Farewell Performance’ rating – 6/10
