‘OTHER VISITS’
Please feel free to comment on my review.
It’s another two-part story in ‘Beast Wars’ and it’s the return of the mysterious aliens from ‘Other Voices’. I found it tense when checking out ‘Other Visits’. I saw ‘Part 1’ in the double bill of ‘Beast Wars’ episodes on GMTV in the UK for Spring Bank Holiday Monday in May 1999.
I saw ‘Part 2’ of the story as the first episode of the double bill of ‘Beast Wars’ episodes on GMTV for August Bank Holiday Monday in 1999. Imagine that! I had to wait like three months to see the resolution of this exciting two-parter. It was well-worth the wait for me!
In ‘Part 1’ of the story, we have the return of Tigatron and Airazor. I was so thrilled to see Tigatron and Airazor back in ‘Beast Wars’. I missed seeing them since they parted in ‘Coming of the Fuzors’ and was looking forward to seeing them reunite with their fellow Maximals.
Sadly, that didn’t happen, as this, unfortunately, happens to be the last appearance of Tigatron and Airazor in ‘Beast Wars’. Well, technically, they do return in ‘Other Victories’ for Season 3, but not as their characters. At the time of seeing ‘Other Visits’, I had no idea. 😀
In their exploration of the planet Earth, Tigatron and Airazor come across a new alien artefact, which happens to be a giant plant in a huge valley. The mysterious aliens capture Tigatron and Airazor in their robot modes and they unfortunately get sent into outer space.
There’s this implication given that Tigatron and Airazor are lovers in ‘Beast Wars’. Whilst I wouldn’t rule out that possibility, it’s a shame we never got to explore more of Tigatron and Airazor’s relationship beforehand, unless you count ‘The Trigger’ as a contender. 😐
Eventually, the Predacons attempt to take control of the mysterious alien plant and the valley, considering it as their new prize. Optimus Primal and the Maximals turn up to stop Megatron and his forces and the stage is set for quite an intense battle between two forces.
‘Part 1’ end with the alien vines forming a giant alien base, which Megatron describes as “Incredible!”. The aliens’ base opens up its roof and sends out an energon surge, which knows out both Maximals and Predacons. I found that a really tense and dramatic ending.
In ‘Part 2’, thankfully, the Transmetal Maximals and Predacons survived the energon surge. There’s Optimus, Cheetor, Rattrap and Silverbolt on the Maximal side, and Megatron, Tarantulas and Quicksilver on the Predacon side. Others weren’t so very lucky.
Rhinox and Dinobot have been knocked out and put into stasis lock on the Maximal side, and the same applies to Waspinator, Blackarachnia and Inferno on the Predacon side. This is because they weren’t affected by the quantum surge that happened in ‘Aftermath’.
It’s interesting how the second episode of this story unveils that certain Maximals and Predacons in Transmetal form have rendered them invisible to the mysterious aliens. This gives Megatron the opportunity to take control of the aliens’ base without them realising it.
Megatron uses the alien Golden Disk to gain access into the alien base with Tarantulas and Quicksilver accompanying him. Megatron stole the alien Golden Disk from Rhinox in ‘Part 1’. He also uses the alien Golden Disk and gains control of the aliens’ base to pilot it.
Whilst Cheetor and Silverbolt take Rhinox and Dinobot back to the Maximals’ base for repairs, Optimus and Rattrap try to get into the base with Tarantulas and Quicksilver defending it. Optimus gets captured and is taken into the aliens’ base with the Predacons.
Having thrown Tarantulas out because he was insubordinate to Megatron, the Maximals reluctantly have him helping them find the aliens’ base so they can rescue Optimus. Meanwhile, Megatron aims to teleport the aliens’ base to Cybertron. That means trouble!
Optimus protests, but Megatron is determined in his insane ambition. Very soon, the Maximals attack the aliens’ base. With the Predacons distracted, Rattrap and Tarantulas get inside. Rattrap manages to interrupt Megatron in his plans and he sets Optimus free.
The story concludes with an epic fight between Optimus and Megatron. After Tarantulas sabotages the teleport sequence, Megatron escapes as well as Optimus and Rattrap. On ground level, the Maximals witness the aliens’ base sent up and blowing up in deep space.
