‘STRANGE BEDFELLOWS’ (DS9)

Please feel free to comment on my review.

The third episode of the nine-part finale to ‘DS9’ is directed by René Auberjonois. Worf and Ezri, who have been in custody of the Breen for a while, are delivered to be in the custody of the Dominion. 😐

The Breen are led by Thot Gor. The Breen don’t speak the same language as you and I. When Jeffrey Combs as Weyoun and Salome Jens as the Female Changeling speak to them, they understand them.

As the new alliance between the Dominion and the Breen is formed, the Cardassians are further marginalised, angering Casey Biggs as Damar. Damar objects to the terms of the treaty being signed.

Thot Gor is given access to Cardassian classified information. Weyoun says that Cardassia is part of the Dominion and anything that the Breen requests from the Dominion about Cardassia is granted. 🙁

Damar is also upset about Septimus III being attacked by the Federation’s Klingon allies as 500,000 Cardassian troops are being wiped out with no defence from the Dominion. Weyoun is unconcerned.

I suppose because the Dominion is disappointed with the Cardassians’ efforts in handling the war against the Federation that the Cardassians are being marginalised. It strains the relationship greatly.

When handing Worf and Ezri, Weyoun and Damar tell them that they will be executed if they refuse to cooperate with the Dominion. At one point, Worf manages to kill Weyoun with his bare hands. 😮

Damar is amused by this, though he reminds Worf and Ezri that Weyoun will merely be replaced by another clone. It’s funny how Damar gets to meet the new Weyoun clone – Weyoun 8 – afterwards.

As Worf and Ezri spend together in their prison cell on Cardassia, they both apologise to each other for letting their memories of Jadzia define their relationship. They agree to be ‘friends, and more’. 🙂

It’s interesting how Worf and Ezri reconcile their differences and how they forgive each other over what’s happened in these past three episodes. Ezri might also be pursuing a relationship with Bashir.

Expecting to be executed, Worf and Ezri are soon escorted by Damar and two Jem’Hadar. Damar soon kills the two Jem’Hadar (an act of his growing disgust with the Dominion’s control of Cardassia).

Freeing Worf and Ezri, Damar informs them that he will help the Federation overthrow the Dominion. Quite surprised, Worf and Ezri take their chance to escape Cardassia and return to DS9. 🙂

Meanwhile, back on DS9, Sisko seems to be having a happily married life so far with Penny Johnson as Kasidy. J.G. Herzler as General Martok warns Sisko about the war in life which concerns marriage.

Elsewhere, Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat, now disguised as a Bajoran, has formed a close attachment to Louise Feltcher as Kai Winn. Winn is still unaware that the Bajoran man she’s slept with is Gul Dukat.

Winn soon receives a second vision from the Prophets who turn out to be the Pah-wraiths. They tell her to reject the Prophets. Winn is horrified, unable to believe that the Pah-wraiths contacted her. 😐

She tries to mediate and pray, demanding that James Otis as Solbor brings the Orb from the Bajoran temple on DS9 to her quarters. Winn is unable to have a connection with the Prophets from the Orb.

Dukat soon tells Winn that he was sent to her by the Pah-wraiths. He plays to her longing for power and reminds her that the Prophets have never given her anything and have favoured Sisko over her.

Distraught, Winn calls upon Colonel Kira for advice. Kira suggests to Winn that in order to regain the Prophets’ favour, she must abandon the ambition and jealously which has led her astray quite lately.

This means she would have to resign as Kai, the spiritual leader of Bajor. Winn however is unwilling to give up her power and rejects the advice. 🙁 She calls on Dukat as ‘Anjohl’ to return to her quarters.

Winn announces her plans to ‘Anjohl’ and reveals her true colours. She tells him that she will accept the path of the Pah-wraiths. This doesn’t look very good now since Winn has gone to the ‘dark side’.

I’m wondering what will happen next now that Winn has become in essence a villain. What will Winn and Dukat do next as they are now walking on a very dark road, following the will of the Pah-wraiths.

‘Strange Bedfellows’ (DS9) rating – 8/10
