Chapter 21
SCENE #193 – INT – CENTRAL CHAMBER, TEMPLE (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
In zone #5, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Dorby, Peri, Jen and Rose gather at the portal, which is still open, in the temple’s central chamber.
DARBY
Well, I say we go through the portal.
NYSSA
I agree. Why waste time when the portal is already open?
BILLY
Yeah, let’s take a chance.
DOCTOR 4
We don’t know where the portal will end up. It could be a trap set up by Salvador.
PERI
Then again, it could not. It could be where the other Doctors and their friends have ended up.
JEN
We should hurry. Especially with the Zygons trying to get in.
ROSE
We haven’t heard from them in a while though.
DONNA
And there’s our Doctors to consider – Nyssa and Billy’s and mine.
DOCTOR 9
We’re not going for a walk into a portal blindly without caution.
DOCTOR 6
Mind you, our friends have a point. We can’t afford not to take chances.
DOCTOR 8
We’ll have to decide soon. It’s unsettling that the Zygons aren’t breaking in.
DARBY
Then it’s decided. We step through the portal.
DOCTOR 4
Yes, James, I believe we are.
Suddenly, the portal closes. A moment of silence, as the four Doctors and their friends are shocked.
BILLY
W-W-What just happened?
NYSSA
The portal closed without warning, Billy.
PERI
How come? We haven’t had a chance to go through it.
DOCTOR 6
Somebody must have closed the portal. It’s possible it was closed from outside the network.
JEN
Can’t we reopen it using these controls?
DOCTOR 8
We could try, but we’re not familiar with them.
DOCTOR 9
And we don’t have time to study them.
ROSE
(encouragingly) Come on, Doctors! You can study the controls in an instant. And come up with a way to open the portal again. You just have to put your collective minds to it.
DOCTOR 9
You may have a point, Rose. (eagerly) Come on, Doctors. Let’s give it a whirl.
DOCTOR 8
Yes, at least we can try.
DOCTOR 4
Couldn’t agree more.
DOCTOR 6
It can’t do any harm.
The four Doctors begin to examine the controls. It takes a while, as they press buttons and switches at the control panels with their friends watching nearby.
DOCTOR 8
(gradually) Yes. I believe we’re getting the hang of these controls.
DOCTOR 4
Indeed. With our minds in sync with each other, we should procure an open portal.
DOCTOR 6
Hopefully, we should get to where we need to be: with the other Doctors and friends.
DOCTOR 9
We have to be swift though. Otherwise, the Zygons will be here and then…
At that moment, the Zygons enter, led by Kosol and Stromos.
PERI
(shocked) How did they get in here?! Where did they come from?
NYSSA
They must have got in via another door in this chamber.
DONNA
And we weren’t paying attention to the other doors.
ROSE
That’s not fair!
The Zygons surround the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends.
STROMOS
(barks) Stay where you are! Do not move!
KOSOL
(snarls) We have caught you, Doctors. You cannot escape again.
DARBY
(groans) It seems you weren’t fast enough studying those controls, Doctors.
JEN
Our chance of escape has been stolen away.
BILLY
But this can’t be the end for us? Can it?
SCENE #194 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
In the Sphere Room aboard Salvador’s base, he and the Valeyard see what’s become of the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends in zone #5 on a monitor screen.
SALVADOR
(pleased) A good idea of yours to close the portal in the temple’s central chamber in zone five.
VALEYARD
I knew they wouldn’t be able to outrun the Zygons. (chuckles) They couldn’t even re-open the portal in time.
Salvador turns to the Thirteenth, Fifth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors, who are now contained in their cubicles connected to the Sphere. Their friends Yaz, Dan, Amy, Rory and Bill are still in the custody of the Cybermen nearby.
SALVADOR
How good of you Doctors to strap yourselves in the cubicles. Ready and waiting to be used for our purpose.
VALEYARD
But of course, you Doctors had no choice in the matter.
DOCTOR 10
Leave our friends in the temple’s central chamber alone, Salvador.
DOCTOR 5
They’re not responsible for what happened to you all those years ago. None of our friends are.
SALVADOR
And as I’ve told you before, your friends are my enemies just as much as you’re my enemy.
VALEYARD
The fact your companions accompany you is entirely your fault, Doctors. You shouldn’t have invited them to join you in your travels; if you didn’t wish for their lives to be endangered.
DOCTOR 11
Then spare those who aren’t our friends, Salvador. Spare those who don’t know me.
DOCTOR 12
Why destroy lives that can offer so much to the Universe when they don’t know me?
SALVADOR
Your influence in this Universe and every other Universe is infectious. We cannot allow the infection to spread.
VALEYARD
Every being that breathes and exists in every Universe shall die regardless of whether they know you or not, Doctor. It is the law of Salvador after all.
DOCTOR 13
(disheartened) I hoped there would be more to you than just simply being vengeful, Salvador.
SALVADOR
I won’t be the one destroying every Universe, Doctor. You’ll be the one doing it.
DOCTOR 13
(puzzled) Me?
SALVADOR
Yes! You and your other selves. Especially when I can summon more of your other selves and your friends from zone five to the Sphere Room aboard my base.
DOCTOR 10
(cries) No, Salvador, you can’t do this! You can’t, no!
DOCTOR 5
(cries) Please, Salvador! If you would just listen to us!
SALVADOR
Valeyard, kindly pull the lever.
VALEYARD
With pleasure, my dear Dark Lord.
SCENE #195 – INT – CENTRAL CHAMBER, TEMPLE (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
Back in zone #5, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose have funny sensations whilst surrounded by Zygons in the temple’s central chamber.
ROSE
(anxiously) Doctors, something is happening.
JEN
(anxiously) Yeah. I feel all tingly inside.
BILLY
(anxiously) Same here.
NYSSA
(anxiously) Me too.
PERI
(anxiously) Me three.
DARBY
(panics) What’s going on now?!
DONNA
(realises; panics) What’s that glowing, light? It’s all around us! We’re in trouble!
DOCTOR 8
(realises) It’s not affecting the Zygons. It’s just us.
DOCTOR 4
I think I know what’s happening.
DOCTOR 6
So do I.
DOCTOR 9
We’re being teleported away.
KOSOL
(cries; angrily) No! Wait, stop!
Enveloped in a teleport beam, the four Doctors and their friends are instantly plucked away out of the temple’s central chamber. Left behind, the Zygons growl and snarl angrily once their captives are gone.
STROMOS
(angrily) We almost had them, Commander!
KOSOL
(angrily) How is it they can get away so easily! Who teleported them away?!
STROMOS
Perhaps the Doctors and their friends aren’t responsible for bringing us here as we thought.
KOSOL
You could be right, Stromos. But if not the Doctors and their friends…
SCENE #196 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back aboard Salvador’s base, the Fourth, Sixth, Eighth and Ninth Doctors and their friends Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose end up in the Sphere Room, tumbling to the floor once they’ve arrived. It takes a short while for them to recover.
BILLY
(disorientated) Well, at least we’re in one piece wherever we are.
DARBY
(disorientated) Yeah. What is this place?
SALVADOR
(barks) Cybermen! Apprehend our guests!
Some Cybermen advance forward, grabbing the four Doctors and their friends from behind.
PERI
(disorientated; realises) Cybermen?!
JEN
(flummoxed) What are they doing here? (cries; in pain) Ow! Don’t be so rough!
ROSE
Alright, alright, we won’t resist.
DOCTOR 13
(cries; reassuringly) Keep calm, everyone. Trust me, everything will be alright.
VALEYARD
(gleefully) It won’t, Doctor. It really won’t.
DOCTOR 8
(realises; astonished) Valeyard! We should have guessed you’d be in on this.
DOCTOR 6
(confused) Pardon? Who did you say this person was?
VALEYARD
(mockingly) Such a pleasure to see you again, Doctors.
NYSSA
(realises; pleased) Doctor! Billy and my Doctor! You’re alive and well.
DOCTOR 5
(cheerily) Yes, Nyssa, hello. Sorry we’re reuniting under these circumstances.
BILLY
It’s good to see you again, Doctor. I’ve got your coat by the way.
DOCTOR 5
So I see. Thank you for looking after it for me, Billy.
DONNA
And you, Spaceman! I’m not letting you out of my sight again
DOCTOR 10
(pleased) Donna! Good to see you!
DONNA
Yeah, likewise. (realises) Yaz; Dan! You’re here too. And your Doctor!
AMY
(cheerily) Hi, Nyssa; Billy. It’s us, Amy and Rory, remember?
NYSSA
(pleased) Of course. It’s nice to see you two again.
BILLY
We remember you from the Intergalactic Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
RORY
Yeah. Feels like it was yesterday.
VALEYARD
(interrupts) Enough of these pleasantries. (barks) Cybermen, place the Doctors’ companions with the rest of them.
The Cybermen escort Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen and Rose, who protest along the way, to where Yaz, Dan, Amy, Rory and Bill are.
DOCTOR 13
(pleads) Don’t hurt our friends, Salvador.
SALVADOR
Like we’re going to accede to your demands.
VALEYARD
You Doctors will step into the cubicles of this Sphere Room with the other Doctors. Willingly or unwillingly.
DOCTOR 4
(astonished) Sphere Room?! I didn’t think I would get to see one up-close.
DOCTOR 6
This won’t end well, Salvador. It won’t be easy when there are more Doctors than you.
DOCTOR 8
The Doctor speaks the truth, you know. More than one mind can be powerful against a single one.
SALVADOR
(determined) Not this time! I shall be victorious against you Doctors!
DOCTOR 9
There’s also the scenario that one of our minds could be deceitful than you and us.
VALEYARD
(interrupts) Don’t ruin things, Doctor. Salvador shall be victorious, you’ll see.
DOCTOR 5
You still have more Doctors and friends to pluck out from zone five.
SALVADOR
(gleefully) Which shouldn’t be a problem. Thank you for reminding us.
DOCTOR 10
Even if you plucked out our remaining selves and friends from zone five, it won’t mean certain victory for either of you.
DOCTOR 11
Yeah, there’s still the element of risk involved in this grand scheme of yours.
DOCTOR 12
Why risk a plan that’s bound to end in failure?
DOCTOR 13
Trust us, Salvador. It’s not worth it.
SALVADOR
(bitterly) I won’t listen to your words! You are no longer my teacher, Doctor! I am the pupil who has outsmarted you all! I will persevere! Nothing you say will change my mind!
VALEYARD
Shall I pull the lever, my dear Salvador?
SALVADOR
Yes! Pull the lever! Let’s have the whole set!
SCENE #197 – EXT – TEMPLE, AFRICA/INDIA (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
Back in zone #5, the First, Second, Third and Seventh Doctors, their granddaughter Susan, and their friends Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Zoe, Jo and Ace have arrived outside the temple but at a different door in the African-Indian jungle.
SUSAN
(eagerly) Well, here we are. We’ve arrived.
IAN
And we have a door to open to get into the temple.
BARBARA
It’s bound to be locked.
ACE
(pleased) Great! A chance to use my Nitro-Nine at last!
JO
(anxiously) Doctor, I feel strange all of a sudden.
JAMIE
(anxiously) Aye, it’s funny you should say that. I feel strange too.
ZOE
So do I. (Pause; realises) Doctors, we’re being enveloped in a bright light!
Everyone checks to see.
SUSAN
(panics) Grandfather, I don’t like this!
DOCTOR 1
Keep calm, Susan! Keep calm, everyone!
DOCTOR 7
It seems we’re to be teleported somewhere.
DOCTOR 3
Jehosophat! We could end up anywhere.
DOCTOR 2
Oh my giddy aunt! And we were so close to entering the temple.
ACE
I haven’t even used my Nitro-Nine yet!
At that, the four Doctors and their friends are teleported out of zone #5.
SCENE #198 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
They end up in the Sphere Room where the rest of the Doctors, their friends, Salvador and the Valeyard are. They tumble to the floor once they’ve arrived, taking a short while to recover.
VALEYARD
Cybermen! Apprehend them!
Instantly, some Cybermen apprehend the First, Second, Third and Seventh Doctors, their granddaughter Susan, and their friends Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Zoe, Jo and Ace, who struggle and protest once they’ve been captured.
DOCTOR 1
(protests) Take your hands off me, you automatons! Off me, I say!
DOCTOR 2
(protests) Ow! Careful, you’re hurting my arms.
DOCTOR 3
Gently, my dear cybernetic chaps. This is a nice jacket I’m wearing.
DOCTOR 7
It seems we’ve arrived where we need to be.
SUSAN
(anxiously) Grandfather, what are we going to do? Where are we?
IAN
Don’t worry, Susan. We’ll find out soon enough.
BARBARA
Yes, I’m sure everything will be alright.
JAMIE
Och, I wouldn’t be so sure of that.
ZOE
Me neither. Cybermen are dangerous. You wouldn’t want to try tackling them.
JO
Oh dear. I fear things haven’t gone our way at all.
ACE
(cries) Oy! Hands off me and my rucksack, tin head!
The Cyberman takes off Ace’s rucksack, whilst holding her.
SALVADOR
(triumphantly) And that completes the set!
VALEYARD
Cybermen! Take the Doctor’s companions, and put them with the rest of the sorry bunch.
CYBER LEADER
Understood.
CYBERMEN
(in unison) We comply.
The Cybermen escort Susan, Ian, Barbara, Jamie, Zoe, Jo and Ace, who struggle and protest, as they join Yaz, Dan, Nyssa, Billy, Donna, Darby, Peri, Jen, Rose, Amy, Rory and Bill.
DOCTOR 1
(angrily) Release my granddaughter and our friends at once, you scoundrels!
DOCTOR 3
(realises) Salvador, it’s really you. (snaps out of it) Keeping us prisoners won’t do you any good, you know.
SALVADOR
We’re not keeping you prisoners, Doctors.
VALEYARD
You shall join the rest of your other selves in the cubicles. From there, the most significant part of our scheme will commence.
SALVADOR
You cannot resist. Especially when your friends’ lives are at stake.
Salvador laughs, whilst the First, Second, Third and Seventh Doctors see the Thirteenth, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Doctors in their cubicles.
DOCTOR 2
(dismayed) How did we end up in this mess so badly?
DOCTOR 4
Salvador and his friend have been too clever it seems.
DOCTOR 7
There’s a glimmer of hope for us though, isn’t there?
DOCTOR 13
It’s a slim one. I wonder if it’ll be enough.
SCENE #199 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A
Meanwhile, in central ops at U.N.I.T. HQ, Captain Magambo rejoins the Brigadier and Kate, who have now been joined by Mike Yates, Benton and Osgood.
MAGAMBO
(surprised) Miss Osgood; Captain Yates; Sergeant Benton. I thought you were in the portal gateway control room.
OSGOOD
We were. But the Brigadier and Miss Stewart thought we could be of use here in central ops. Now that the Doctors and their friends have gone.
MIKE
We’ve also attended to Miss Francesca who we captured on our way here.
BENTON
We put her in the brig. Some of our soldiers are keeping watch on her. She put up a good fight.
BRIGADIER
Give us your report, Magambo.
KATE
Are the Daleks, Sontarans and Autons being held back?
MAGAMBO
We’re having trouble with that, ma’am. The Daleks, Sontarans and Autons have regrouped and are about to retaliate.
OSGOOD
The Doctor’s enemies are known for being relentless.
MIKE
Do we join our troops in the fight, sir?
BENTON
There can’t be that many of our soldiers left if our enemies are regrouping.
BRIGADIER
This Salvador scoundrel has a lot to answer for.
KATE
Yes. He and whoever else that serves him.
MAGAMBO
Let’s hope the Doctor is successful in sorting out this mess.
MIKE
(realises) Brigadier; Miss Stewart. I hear someone coming.
BENTON
It must be one of our soldiers.
A soldier runs in before he’s exterminated by a Dalek. The soldier cries out loud in agony before he collapses to the floor.
BRIGADIER
(shocked) He’s been shot! Take cover!
MAGAMBO
(cries; urgently) Everyone, look out! Daleks!
The Daleks glide into central ops.
DALEKS
(chants) EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!!
The Daleks open fire. Thankfully, the Brigadier, Kate, Osgood, Yates, Benton and Magambo avoid being shot and they get under cover.
KATE
(cries) Everyone, heads down! Don’t let the Daleks hit you!
MIKE
Brigadier, sir. We haven’t got much ammunition left.
BRIGADIER
We must use it sparingly. We should at least gun our way out through these Daleks. (Pause) How’s your ammunition, Magambo?
MAGAMBO
(reassuringly) It’s alright, sir. I reloaded before I rejoined you.
BRIGADIER
Good. (barks) Yates; Benton; Magambo. At my command, open fire.
The Brigadier, Yates, Benton and Magambo ready their weapons whilst the Daleks continue firing at their cover.
BRIGADIER
(barks) Now! Fire!
The Brigadier, Yates, Benton and Magambo open fire at the Daleks. The shots fired have no effect.
BENTON
(cries) It’s not working, sir. We can’t seem to find the Daleks’ weak points.
MIKE
We fought Daleks at Auderly House, Benton! We mustn’t give up!
OSGOOD
(realises) Miss Stewart, there’s the other door behind us that leads out of central ops. It’s a long way round but…
KATE
(interjects) …But at least we’ll be able to rejoin our forces and help them. Good thinking, Osgood. (to Brigadier) Father…
BRIGADIER
Yes, Kate, I heard. (barks) Benton; Yates; Magambo. Keep constant fire at the Daleks as we make our way out of central ops via the back door.
COMMAND DALEK
(goads) THERE IS NO ESCAPE. YOU WILL NOT OUTRUN THE DALEKS.
BENTON
We’ll keep constant fire, sir.
MIKE
Just give us the word to go…
MAGAMBO
…And we’ll follow you out of central ops.
BRIGADIER
(barks) Right, everyone. Move to the door behind us. We’ll escape out of central ops before…
As they back away, they realise their alternative exit is to be blocked, as the Sontarans, led by Commander Groul and Corporal Stukk, charge in.
STUKK
(goads) Not so fast, hu-mans. You are surrounded by both Daleks and Sontarans!
GROUL
We Sontarans never falter in our quest for victory. (boldly) For the glory of Sontar!
SONTARANS
(chants) Sontar-ha! Sontar-ha! Sontar-ha! [Sontar-ha…]
OSGOOD
(grimly) We’re cornered on both sides.
KATE
(encouragingly) Not to worry, everyone. There’s still the third door in the centre of the room. If we make our way towards it…
Just as they’re about to make for the exit in the centre of the room, the Autons come marching in. The Autons raise their hand-guns at the Brigadier, Kate, Osgood, Yates, Benton and Magambo.
AUTON #1
You are surrounded. Do not attempt to escape. Anyone attempting to do so will die.
MAGAMBO
Too late, ma’am. The Autons have cornered us off too.
MIKE
(cries) Everyone, duck!
The Brigadier, Kate, Osgood, Yates, Benton and Magambo duck, as the Autons open fire. They keep their heads down, as the Daleks, Sontarans and Autons fire at them on all sides.
BENTON
(apprehensively) Daleks to our left, Sontarans to our right and Autons in the centre. That’s not fair!
OSGOOD
This isn’t turning out to be a great day.
MAGAMBO
It’s difficult to avoid being fired upon whilst we’re keeping our heads down.
MIKE
We must keep alert. Don’t let the Daleks, Sontarans and Autons get at us.
KATE
I hope the Doctors and their friends are having better luck than us.
BRIGADIER
So do I, Kate dear. Wherever and whenever they are.
SCENE #200 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back aboard Salvador’s base, the thirteen Doctors are strapped in their cubicles connected to the Sphere whilst their friends are held captive by the Cybermen. Salvador and the Valeyard gleefully approach the thirteen Doctors in their cubicles.
SALVADOR
There is no escape for you this time, Doctors.
VALEYARD
Once connected to the Sphere, you’ll be compelled to do our bidding. That is when we join you in two spare cubicles of course.
DOCTOR 6
There must be about four dozen cubicles in this Sphere Room.
SALVADOR
Five dozen actually.
DOCTOR 8
(astonished) Five dozen. About sixty then. Hmm.
DOCTOR 5
A shame you don’t have sixty Doctors as opposed to thirteen.
VALEYARD
Your luck ran out the moment you stepped into the cubicles, Doctors.
SALVADOR
We are in control. You can’t expect to outwit us this time.
DOCTOR 13
Salvador, please listen. There’s no need for you to carry out this endeavour.
DOCTOR 1
The young lady is right, Salvador. I’m sorry for what happened to you all those years ago.
SALVADOR
(bitterly) You, Doctor! I despise you the most. I vividly recall how I used to be your guinea pig.
DOCTOR 1
You think I don’t regret my actions, even as I am now?
DOCTOR 2
You weren’t treated like a guinea pig. It was just unfortunate the method we used on you to become a Time Lord turned out to be incorrect.
SALVADOR
(bitterly) Saying these things doesn’t change anything.
DOCTOR 3
We don’t expect forgiveness, Salvador. We’re simply stating facts as well as saying sorry. We expect you to appreciate that. Even with thirteen of us, we expect you to appreciate that.
VALEYARD
Don’t listen to them. The Doctors will say anything to get out of a trap.
DOCTOR 9
(scoffs) Oh and you claim to be better, hey, Valeyard?
VALEYARD
I know well enough that Salvador has suffered a great deal. I’m simply helping to ease the pain. By eradicating you from existence, the Universe and the Multiverse will be safer.
SALVADOR
The pain will be eased greatly once we’ve finished with you, Doctors. It will happen once you’re all made to cause catastrophes.
DOCTOR 5
Salvador, you can’t expect someone like the Valeyard, who could easily be a despot like the Master, to be trustworthy.
SALVADOR
Why not? It gives me great pleasure to work alongside someone who is your enemy.
DOCTOR 7
The Valeyard is more dangerous than you think, Salvador.
DOCTOR 10
The more you work with him, the more you’ll regret it.
DOCTOR 11
The moment you and the Valeyard set your plans in motion, you’ll find yourself backstabbed by the perfidious Valeyard.
SALVADOR
(goads) You seriously expect me to take that seriously.
DOCTOR 4
Why not? With thirteen of us, we’re more than capable of keeping to our word.
DOCTOR 12
And thirteen against two isn’t really fair on your count, Salvy boy.
VALEYARD
You’re wrong in thinking you can outwit us, Doctors. Why do you think we’ve placed you in these cubicles? There’s an inhibitor to prevent you sharing minds with each other. This will also occur when Salvador and I have initiated you in our great agenda for the Multiverse.
DOCTOR 9
You can’t expect one inhibitor to prevent us from sharing minds with each other, Valeyard. We are stronger than you think.
DOCTOR 13
The Valeyard doesn’t know the extent that us thirteen Doctors can achieve whilst we’re in these cubicles. His plan to counteract us is untested. It’s unreliable.
DOCTOR 7
You can’t place your hopes to cease our existence by trusting the Valeyard’s measures, Salvador.
SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) Enough of your lies! I trust the Valeyard! With that trust, we shall have you and everyone else in all Universes obliterated! I shall be satisfied!
DOCTOR 5
Salvador, please. Let those who aren’t your enemies be spared.
DOCTOR 10
The Universe doesn’t have to die because of your grudge against us.
SALVADOR
(angrily) The Universe never showed me mercy!
A grim moment of silence.
VALEYARD
Shall I switch on the lever for the Doctors to connect to the Sphere?
SALVADOR
Yes! Do it now. It is the law.
DOCTOR 1
We warn you, Salvador. Don’t do anything rash.
SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) Now, Valeyard! Do as I say!
The Valeyard pulls the lever. Soon, the thirteen Doctors in their cubicles begin to shake and shudder whilst the Sphere glows brightly.
YAZ
(shouts; pleads) No! Stop this please! Salvador, please stop it!
SUSAN
(cries) Grandfather!
The Doctor’s friends try to break free, but they’re still held in the grip of the Cybermen.
JAMIE
(protests) You can’t do this! You’re killing them! You’re killing the Doctors!
SALVADOR
(triumphantly) Yes! Kill every Doctor! It’ll be my greatest triumph! Every Doctor in every Universe will die, thanks to me!
JO
(cries) You horrid person!
DARBY
(angrily) Just wait till I get over there and punch you!
VALEYARD
Too late, everyone. The Doctors are plugged into the interface.
SALVADOR
(triumphantly) It begins! The breakdown of our Universe is to commence! (Pause) Nothing in the Universe can stop me now!
Soon, everything shakes and shudders violently in the Sphere Room, nearly causing everyone to lose their balance.
SCENE #201 – EXT – MAELSTROM – N/A
Within the maelstrom, everything shakes and shudders violently. The toll of the Universe is evident, as the maelstrom shrinks further around Salvador’s base and the interdimensional network.
SCENE #202 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
NYSSA
(realises) The maelstrom is destabilising. I can see it happening in the windows. The rate of entropy will increase far more than when Traken and the Metulla Orionsis system were destroyed.
PERI
This is crazy! It can’t end this way!
ACE
Yeah, there must be a way out of this!
SALVADOR
(triumphantly) There isn’t. Look at your Doctors now, pitiful insignificant beings. Soon, they will destroy every Universe at my and the Valeyard’s command.
JEN
Our Doctors won’t give up easily. They’ll defeat you for sure.
ROSE
Even with the Cybermen holding us, we won’t doubt the Doctors. Nor will we abandon them.
DONNA
Don’t think we’ll stand idly by. We can always spit in your faces.
VALEYARD
(triumphantly) Your fierce loyalty is misplaced. There’s no way the Doctors can overcome our power.
AMY
The Doctors are tougher than you think.
BILL
We believe in them. Far more than you ever would.
DAN
So you two had better watch out or else it’ll be tears before bedtime.
YAZ
(pleased) Well said, Dan. Well said, everybody.
SALVADOR
I’m tired of this poisonous babbling, Valeyard.
VALEYARD
Agreed. (calls) Cybermen. Delete the Doctor’s friends.
A moment of silence whilst the violent background shaking and shuddering persists. The Cybermen aren’t responding.
IAN
(puzzled) What’s happening? Why aren’t they killing us?
BARBARA
Have they fallen asleep?
ZOE
I’ve never known Cybermen to enter sleep mode before.
SALVADOR
(cries; angrily) Cybermen! Didn’t you hear the Valeyard’s command? Delete the Doctor’s friends! (Pause; shouts impatiently) Delete them, I say!
Still unresponsive, the Cybermen suddenly vanish. The Doctor’s friends are released once this occurs
BILLY
(astonished) They’ve gone! The Cybermen have gone!
NYSSA
(astonished) They just vanished.
RORY
And we’re now free. What’s going on?
SALVADOR
(angrily) What is happening?! Valeyard, explain!
VALEYARD
I can’t! I don’t know how this has occurred.
DOCTOR 13
(cheerily) Ah, yeah, that was us actually.
Everyone turns to see the thirteen Doctors awake in their cubicles.
YAZ
(relieved) Doctor! Oh, Doctor, thank goodness. You and the other Doctors are okay.
DOCTOR 13
(happily) Of course we are, Yaz. We’re alive and kicking!
DOCTOR 10
(cheerfully) We’ve put the Cybermen back to where they were in zone six. The same thing should apply to the Daleks, Autons and Sontarans at U.N.I.T. HQ.
DOCTOR 5
(cheerfully) They’ll be put back in zones one, two and three. The Osirian servitor mummy robots stay put in zone four of course and the Zygons should still be in zone five.
SCENE #203 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A
Back in central ops at U.N.I.T. HQ, the Brigadier, Kate, Mike Yates, Benton, Osgood and Magambo are still keeping their heads down whilst the Daleks, Sontarans and Autons are still attacking them.
KATE
Father, we’re going to lose our cover altogether.
BRIGADIER
I fear you’re right, Kate. We’ll soon be open targets.
COMMAND DALEK
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!! [EXTERMINATE…]
Just then, the Command Dalek suddenly vanishes.
BENTON
(astonished) W-W-What…What just happened? Where did that Dalek go?
DALEKS
EXTERMINATE! [EXTERMINATE…]
Instantly, the rest of the Daleks vanish.
OSGOOD
Not just one Dalek. All of them have vanished.
MIKE
The Sontarans are vanishing too, see?
STUKK
(panics) Commander Groul! I’m fading away!
GROUL
(cries) Remain strong, Stukk! We Sontarans must stay strong!
At that, Commander Groul, Lieutenant Stuck and the Sontarans vanish.
BRIGADIER
So they have. I wonder what caused that to happen.
MAGAMBO
The Autons are vanishing too, sir.
AUTON #1
Alert! Alert! We are being redirected. Maintain our link with the Nestene…
The Auton’s words are cut off, as it and the rest of them vanish. A moment of silence.
SCENE #204 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back in the Sphere Room aboard Salvador’s base, the violent shaking and shuddering ceases.
BARBARA
(realises) Ian, the violent shudders. They’ve…
IAN
Yes, Barbara. They’ve stopped altogether.
SUSAN
(relieved) Thank goodness for that. (to Doctor #1) You all did something, didn’t you, grandfather.
DOCTOR 1
Yes, Susan dear, we did. All thirteen of me did something splendid.
SALVADOR
(angrily) No! What have you done! Tell us what you’ve done, Doctors!
DOCTOR 8
We warned you, Salvador. We warned you of the risks in conducting this dangerous scheme.
DOCTOR 7
But you were too stubborn and belligerent to listen.
Just then, multiple TARDIS sounds echo in the Sphere Room, whooshing and groaning as they go.
JAMIE
(realises) Zoe, you hear that?
ZOE
(pleased) Yes, Jamie! It’s the TARDIS!
DOCTOR 2
Not just the TARDIS, Zoe.
DOCTOR 12
All thirteen of them!
BILL
All thirteen? You mean…
DOCTOR 5
That’s right. All our TARDISes have come to the Sphere Room.
The thirteen TARDISes materialise in the Sphere Room, making loud thumps as they land.
SALVADOR
(angrily) No! NO!!! This can’t be happening!
DOCTOR 9
(impressed) Wow! All came in good time and on the dot. Fantastic!
DOCTOR 13
(pleased) Brilliant! This is where the next stage of our backfire plan begins.
DOCTOR 10
Both dangerous and exciting! Yes, brilliant!
SCENE #205 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A
OSGOOD
I don’t understand. Where did they go?
MIKE
Be thankful they’ve gone, Miss Osgood. Good riddance to them.
BENTON
Couldn’t agree more, sir.
KATE
We should stay alert. There could be enemies still about.
BRIGADIER
You might be right, Kate. But what just happened is most peculiar.
MAGAMBO
(realises) Brigadier, I hear someone coming.
KATE
Ssh! Everyone, listen.
Everyone is quiet, as they listen to the approaching footsteps.
BRIGADIER
(briskly) Right, everyone. Weapons ready. Don’t fire until I say so.
The Brigadier, Kate, Mike Yates, Benton and Magambo ready their weapons as someone enters.
BAMBERA
(calls) Brigadier; Miss Stewart. I came as soon as I could.
Brigadier Bambera salutes, whilst the Brigadier, Kate, Mike Yates, Benton, Osgood and Magambo sigh with relief.
OSGOOD
(relieved) It’s alright. It’s Brigadier Bambera.
BRIGADIER
(relieved) Thank goodness for a friendly face.
KATE
What have you to report, Bambera? Tell us it’s good news.
BAMBERA
It is good news, ma’am, but I’m at a loss from what I’ve seen. I was on my way from my section to give you support in central ops, but…
MAGAMBO
(interjects) You saw every Dalek, Sontaran and Auton vanish before your eyes, ma’am.
BAMBERA
Yes, Captain. I’m not sure how it happened, but my troops are still keeping their patrol in the corridors. I have them on the radio, should they report in.
KATE
(pleased) Well done, Bambera. Hopefully we won’t have any more enemies to worry about from now on, but best to be safe.
BRIGADIER
(realises) I think I know who’s responsible for their sudden disappearance.
OSGOOD
Who, sir?
MIKE
I have the same idea as you, Brigadier.
BENTON
Of course. It must have been the Doctors.
BRIGADIER
Exactly, Benton. The Doctors have found a way to tap into enemy control and resolve our monster problems.
BAMBERA
I hoped it would be something like that too, sir.
KATE
Let’s hope the Doctors are still doing well in their progress to save us all.
BRIGADIER
Likewise. If only we could get in touch with them.
SCENE #206 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back in the Sphere Room, Salvador and the Valeyard find their access to the thirteen Doctors in their cubicles blocked by the thirteen TARDISes.
SALVADOR
(angrily) Tell us what you’ve done, Doctors!
VALEYARD
You can’t hope to outsmart us. We’ll work out what you’ve done. And when we do…
As Salvador and the Valeyard advance, they end up bumping into a couple of force fields where the thirteen TARDISes are situated. They fall on their backs, taking a moment to recover.
SALVADOR
(startled) W-W-What just happened? It felt like walking into an invisible wall.
VALEYARD
(realises) You did this, Doctors! You’ve set up force fields surrounding your cubicle areas.
DOCTOR 13
And extended them to our friends and the Sphere. Thanks to our TARDISes.
DOCTOR 10
With thirteen of us, we’ve been able to work out how to counteract your attempt to control us.
DOCTOR 5
Luckily, our plan worked on a whim.
SALVADOR
(angrily; protests) You can’t have worked it out among thirteen of you! You just can’t!
VALEYARD
You haven’t had a telepathic conference. We prevented that!
DOCTOR 2
We didn’t need one.
DOCTOR 12
We’ve had many lives to connect the dots.
DOCTOR 6
We just remembered what we had to do once we were placed in our cubicles.
DOCTOR 4
We gave ourselves reminders after we each had this adventure.
SALVADOR
(angrily; protests) You can’t do that, Doctors! You can’t outwit us like that!
DOCTOR 1
Why not? You were determined to go through with this mad scheme of yours.
DOCTOR 3
We just couldn’t allow you to go through with it.
DOCTOR 8
It wouldn’t be fair on the whole Multiverse to receive further pain from the likes of you and the Valeyard.
DOCTOR 9
(calls; urgently) Rose, Nyssa, Billy, Donna, James, Peri and Jen.
DOCTOR 7
(calls; urgently) Ace, Ian, Barbara, Susan, Jamie, Zoe and Jo.
DOCTOR 11
(calls; urgently) And Amy, Rory, Yaz, Dan and Bill. Get inside a cubicle quickly!
AMY
(baffled) What? Us get inside a cubicle?
RORY
(baffled) What for?
DOCTOR 13
Trust us. We’ll explain everything once you’re inside these things.
DOCTOR 10
(calls; urgently) Come on now! Any cubicle will do! Just get in one!
DONNA
Alright, Doctors. We’ll get in the cubicles.
YAZ
Let’s hope it’ll be worth it.
DAN
We seem to have the winning hand so far.
NYSSA
(calls) Come on, everyone. Quickly!
BILLY
(to Doctors) Do these cubicles swing open easily?
DOCTOR 5
Yes they do, Billy. (urgently) Now hurry along! We’ve precious little time!
SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) Stop this! Stop this at once!
VALEYARD
We forbid this insurrection!
Salvador and the Valeyard try again to reach the Doctors and their friends, but they bump into another couple of force fields and end up falling on the floor. The thirteen Doctors’ companions get inside a cubicle and join them. The cubicle lids close shut once they’re in.
IAN
Alright, Doctors, we’re in. Now what do we do?
BARBARA
How does getting inside these cubicles help us?
SUSAN
(realises) It’s a link-up. We’re about to link with each other whilst connected to the Sphere.
DOCTOR 1
Precisely, Susan. Once that’s done, we’ll be able to share our thoughts.
JAMIE
Is that safe, Doctors? Won’t that give us headaches?
ZOE
Especially considering this is alien technology for most of us. Won’t it fry our minds?
DOCTOR 2
(reassuringly) Trust us, Jamie; Zoe. There are thirteen of us Doctors. We’ll be able to keep your minds intact as we undergo this massive operation that needs to be put into action.
JO
Massive operation? I don’t like the sound of that.
DOCTOR 3
(reassuringly) Trust us, Jo. It’ll work out alright in the end.
ACE
Okay, Professor. What are we to do when connecting to each other and the Sphere?
DOCTOR 7
It’s simple, Ace. We’re to restore balance by putting everything back the way they were.
DOCTOR 6
We’re going to restore the displaced spatial-temporal locations of Earth’s history in the interdimensional network back to the Universes they came from.
PERI
(astonished) Wow! Can we really do that?
VALEYARD
(protests) No, Doctors! You cannot attempt such an endeavour. Even if you did…
SALVADOR
(interjects) …It would blow out most of your minds as your companions feared.
DOCTOR 4
With just us Doctors, yes. But with our friends to assist us, every little helps.
DARBY
(interjects) Don’t worry, Doctors. We’ll help out in any way we can.
ROSE
Absolutely. You can rely on us to give you support.
DOCTOR 9
(pleased) That’s good to know. Right, let’s stop chin-wagging and get on with it.
SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) No, Doctors! We command you to stop!
VALEYARD
(angrily) This was not meant to be! We were supposed to win, Salvador and I!
DOCTOR 8
(determined) What we need to do first is to gain access to the interdimensional network.
JEN
How do we go about doing that then?
DOCTOR 11
Simple really. We just think about it.
AMY
(puzzled) That’s it? We just think about gaining access to the network with our minds?
DOCTOR 12
Yes! Focus your minds to gain access and we’ll work our way from there.
RORY
Let’s hope we’ll still have our minds after this.
BILL
Alright, what are we waiting for? Let’s get our access to the network.
SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) I forbid this! SALVADOR FORBIDS IT!!!
Salvador angrily stamps his foot.
DOCTOR 13
(determined) Right, everyone! Let’s close our eyes and concentrate.
Everyone in the cubicles closes their eyes. Soon, the Sphere starts to glow brightly.
DAN
(realises) Doctor, I sense the Sphere glowing brightly in the room. I can even see it in my mind.
YAZ
Is that a good thing?
DOCTOR 13
(pleased) Yes, Yaz. A very good thing. We’re connecting to the Sphere and it’s about to project our minds into the network.
DOCTOR 10
(determined) Don’t lose focus, everyone! We can’t afford to lose our concentration.
DOCTOR 5
Especially when there’s so much at risk.
As the thirteen Doctors and their friends in the cubicles gain access to the interdimensional network…
SALVADOR
We must do something, Valeyard! We must cease this sacrilege!
VALEYARD
Have no fear, dear Salvador. I too have a TARDIS. I have equipment that can penetrate the force fields created by the Doctors’ TARDISes.
SALVADOR
Let’s get to your TARDIS then! Collect your equipment! Come on!
Salvador and the Valeyard leave, whilst the thirteen Doctors and their friends keep at it in accessing the interdimensional network.
DOCTOR 1
(encouragingly) Yes, that’s good. Keep going, everyone. We mustn’t falter.
DOCTOR 2
We must all keep focused. Don’t worry. We’ll help you along all the way.
JO
(realises) Doctors, what about the Brigadier, Kate and everyone at U.N.I.T. HQ?
ACE
Yeah, we can’t abandon them. Especially after all the help they’ve given us.
DOCTOR 7
Good points, you two.
DOCTOR 3
Don’t worry. We’ll summon the Brigadier, Kate and everyone from U.N.I.T. to us.
DOCTOR 12
More than that. They can help us with gaining access to the network too.
DOCTOR 11
There are more cubicles to be filled in this place.
SCENE #207 – INT – CENTRAL OPS ROOM, U.N.I.T. HQ – N/A
KATE
(anxiously) Father, what’s happening?
BRIGADIER
I don’t know, Kate. I believe we’re all experiencing the strange sensation.
OSGOOD
I feel as though we’re about to be teleported somewhere.
MIKE
It’s not like any teleport I’ve come across before.
BENTON
Nor me. I don’t know whether to be reassured or anxious.
BAMBERA
We’re being enveloped in a bright light. Where do you suppose we’ll end up?
MAGAMBO
I’m sure we’re about to find out.
Enveloped in the bright light, the Brigadier, Kate, Osgood, Mike Yates, Benton, Magambo and Bambera are soon teleported out of U.N.I.T. HQ.
