‘Doom of the Daleks’, Part Three, Chapter 12

Magogswarmship

12. Project: De-gravitate

SCENE #128 – INT – DALEK LAB #4 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
The Doctor and Elaine are now in Dalek Lab #4. Elaine watches as the Doctor works hard with the laboratory equipment he has at his disposal. He begins to set everything up for his experiments. A Dalek is on guard as the Doctor and Elaine confer quietly with each other.

ELAINE
“Are you okay there, Doctor? Do you need any help?”

DOCTOR
“Hmm? Uh no, not yet. Just getting things ready before the Daleks bring that drug. I want to make sure I have everything on stand-by so that this can be speedy.”

The Doctor prepares utensils and tools to set up his experiments.

ELAINE
Doctor? Why are you helping the Daleks?

DOCTOR
Curiosity.

ELAINE
Curiosity of what?

DOCTOR
The Dwaxi. The fabric of space-time is so considerably fragile at the moment. I need to know who these Dwaxi are in order to put them back where they came from.

ELAINE
But you said, something about the Daleks not telling you everything.

DOCTOR
So I did, Elaine. So I did.

ELAINE
What is that supposed to mean?

DOCTOR
Oh it’s an instinct. Whenever the Daleks tell me to do something for them there’s always a secret lining in the words of what they claim. They may say they need my help, but are they just saying that to satisfy something they’re hiding.

ELAINE
You mean, there may be more to why the Dwaxi are here. Why they’re constantly attacking this sector of space.

DOCTOR
More importantly. Why the Dwaxi treat the Daleks as their enemy. And why they’re able to beat them so greatly!

Just then, the electronic doors slide open. The Agent Dalek enters with two more Daleks gliding into the lab. One Dalek carries a stack of liquid tubes in its sucker stick. The Doctor goes to greet them.

DOCTOR
(cheerfully) Ah! Christmas already! So nice of you to bring me presents!

AGENT DALEK
“THIS IS THE SUBSTANCE KNOWN AS YENTIAS!”

DOCTOR
“Of course. The Dwaxi drug that heightens emotion and strength!”

AGENT DALEK
“YOUR MISSION TO CONDUCT TESTS TO PRODUCE AN ANTIGEN VIRUS FOR THE DRUG WILL COMMENCE IMMEDIATELY! YOU WILL NOT FALTER FROM YOUR TASK, DOC-TOR!”

ELAINE
Alright, alright. You don’t have to be so pressurising! The Doctor will do these experiments for you!

DOCTOR
Thank you for your confidence in me, Elaine.

AGENT DALEK
(to Dalek) DALEK UNIT ONE-NINE-FIVE. SET THE SELECTION OF DRUG MATERIAL ON THE TABLE!

DALEK UNIT #195
I OBEY.

The Dalek obeys, as it places the stack of Yentias drugs in its sucker stick onto the table next to the Doctor.

AGENT DALEK
WE HAVE FOUND YOUR TARDIS ABOARD THE EARTH SHIP MOON-RAKER!

DOCTOR
(mock-surprise; wryly) Really?! I’m so glad you were able to find it.

AGENT DALEK
IT IS BEING SECURED! YOU WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE IN IT!

DOCTOR
Oh no. No of course not. And you can’t get into it yourselves since you have no hands to open it. Well of course you do have hands for sucker sticks but they don’t have fingers, do they?!

AGENT DALEK
YOU WILL BEGIN YOUR WORK INSTANTLY! DO NOT DELAY OR DEVIATE!

ELAINE
(interjects) “What about the others? Captain Sulley and the crew! Are they still working in the mines or have you given them a rest!”

AGENT DALEK
“THEY HAVE ESCAPED FROM THE MINES!”

DOCTOR
(pleased) “Good for them! I’m glad they were able to escape!”

AGENT DALEK
“IT DOES NOT MATTER. THEY WILL BE KILLED EVENTUALLY!” (Pause) “NOW BEGIN YOUR WORK!”

The Agent Dalek then leaves the room. The remaining Daleks keep watch on the Doctor and Elaine.

DOCTOR
“Right then. Let’s get to it!”

The Doctor sets to work, as he picks up one of the tube containing the Yentias drug. Elaine sits next to the Doctor and talks quietly to him.

ELAINE
“Doctor? Will Kevin and the others be alright?”

DOCTOR
“I should think so. If they’ve managed to escape they’d probably think about heading back to the Moonraker if they’re wise.”

ELAINE
“What was it they were mining for anyway? Mineral ores or something.”

DOCTOR
“If it’s Daleks we’re dealing with, I suspect it’s something more ambitious. No it’s something to do with….” (Pause; realises) “Oh no!”

ELAINE
“What?”

DOCTOR
(disbelieving) “It can’t be. It just can’t be!”

SCENE #129 – EXT – SLIU MINES SURFACE – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Meanwhile, Captain Sulley and Colin have managed to reach the surface of the Sliu Mines. They climb up the stairs to get to the top. They look around to see the dense and gloomy atmosphere before them.

COLIN
(pants) “Well! Now we’ve reached the surface. What happens now?”

CAPTAIN
“This land’s devastated! What has that Yondamon Ambassador done to his own people! Surely there must be a chance for this planet to be revived!”

COLIN
(agitated) “Now that we’ve reached the surface, what do we do Captain? We can’t just wait here for the rest of our crew to come!”

CAPTAIN
“Quite wrong, Mr. Wilson. That’s precisely what we intend to do.”

COLIN
“But it might be hours before any surviving crew gets here.”

CAPTAIN
(cries) “Get down!”

COLIN
“What?”

CAPTAIN
(urgently) “There’s a Dalek coming! Get down!”

Both Captain Sulley and Colin get down on their knees.

CAPTAIN
“Quick! Behind the rocks! Quick, Wilson!”

Both Captain Sulley and Colin scramble up behind the rocks to take cover. A Dalek on patrol glides past. It soon stops in its track, as it scans the whole area for a few moments. Captain Sulley and Colin remain whilst the Dalek searches. Eventually, the Dalek glides on, leaving Captain Sulley and Colin where they’re hiding. Once the Dalek has gone, Captain Sulley sighs with relief as he and Colin get up off the ground from behind the rocks.

CAPTAIN
“Thank goodness it didn’t see us!”

Colin then groans suddenly.

CAPTAIN
(concerned) “Mr. Wilson? Are you alright?”

Colin eventually asserts herself.

COLIN
“I’ll be alright.”

CAPTAIN
“Are you sure?”

COLIN
(agitated) “I’m fine.” (Pause) “We can’t stay here forever, Captain Sulley. Those Daleks will soon catch us! We must do something!”

CAPTAIN
“We are going to! We’re waiting for the crew of our ship!”

COLIN
“We don’t know if they’re alive or dead, sir. We mustn’t linger here forever!”

CAPTAIN
“We won’t stay here forever, Mr. Wilson. We’ll just wait here until any sign of crew come up. I’m sure they’ll come.”

COLIN
“We should make better use of our time!” (Pause) “We could go and find that Doctor and Elaine. Surely you’d want to know where Elaine is, since you love her.”

CAPTAIN
(surprised) “How did you know that? I never told anyone else that.”

COLIN
(hesitates) “I managed to overhear it. So that must be a reason for not staying here in this…wilderness. We should go and find the Doctor and Elaine.”

CAPTAIN
“No.”

COLIN
“Do you want to end up like Gavin? How he died?”

CAPTAIN
“I’m still in command, Mr. Wilson and I say we stay here! And that is an order!”

Colin then takes out a gun and aims it at Captain Sulley.

COLIN
(threateningly) “You will move on! Do as I say!”

CAPTAIN
(gradually) “Put that gun away, Mr. Wilson. Threatening me won’t get you anywhere!”

COLIN
(threateningly) “This is not a threat, it a command! Now do as I say! Move!”

CAPTAIN
You dare to challenge my authority! I’m your Captain, remember?

COLIN
(threateningly) You are a prisoner of the Daleks!

CAPTAIN
What are you talking about?

COLIN
(shouts; threateningly) You will obey me! Obey or you will be exterminated!

Moment of silence.

CAPTAIN
(shocked) Colin! You sound just like a Dalek!

SUPREME DALEK
HE IS CONDITIONED TO SERVE US!

Captain Sulley turns to see the Supreme Dalek approaching behind him.

CAPTAIN
(despearingly) You managed to catch up then.

SUPREME DALEK
“YOU, CAPTAIN, WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DOCTOR AND COMMANDER THOMAS IN DALEK LAB FOUR!”

COLIN
(insistently; threateningly) “Do not force me to use this, Captain. I will use it!”

A trigger is clicked as Colin aims the gun at Captain Sulley’s head. The Captain meanwhile is shocked by his fellow officer’s sudden behaviour.

SCENE #130 – EXT – GAMOR ROCK CLIFFS, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back on Yondamus IV, at the Gamor rock cliffs, Nyssa and Billy sit down together. They eat their sandwiches whilst Boco and Hilda are somewhere else attending to Sandy the Globtol Ferroca.

BILLY
“So these Dwaxi thugs are addicted to drugs? How disturbing!”

NYSSA
“The Dwaxi are addicted to some form of drug that heightens their volatile nerves and makes them aggressive.”

BILLY
“Yeah and that explains why they were able to beat me up so hard. I’ve never had such a horrible experience as that.”

NYSSA
“If only the Doctor were here. He might be able to make sense of this. Perhaps he could save Nina and Jack’s life.”

BILLY
“Yes. I shouldn’t have left the Doctor. But I was so worried about you, that I just didn’t think.”

NYSSA
“Well, never mind that. At least you’ve got your new friends Boco and Hilda. Perhaps they can help us out!”

BILLY
“Yes. I have been fortunate in finding these two. They’re so dotty but I really like them.”

NYSSA
“Billy! That’s no way to talk about them.”

BILLY
“Hey! Dotty’s good. It’s much better than being around those rough Dwaxi and intimidating Daleks.”

NYSSA
“The Doctor will sort it out. He’s always does.”

BILLY
(enthused) “Yeah. Then we’ll able to go to Traken!”

Moment of silence

NYSSA
“Billy?”

BILLY
“Yes.” (Pause) “What is it, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
(slowly) “About Traken, Billy. I…well the…the fact is I…”

Moment of silence, as Nyssa is unable to tell the truth to Billy for a moment.

BILLY
“You don’t want me to see Traken?”

NYSSA
“No! No, it’s not that.”

BILLY
“Is it because I left you behind here. I’m sorry Nyssa. I did say I was sorry, didn’t I?”

NYSSA
“No, Billy. Just listen for a moment.” (Pause) “Traken…I’m really flattered you want to see my home.”

BILLY
“I do Nyssa, I do.”

Moment of silence.

NYSSA
“It’s just…it’s not possible.”

BILLY
“What do you mean?”

NYSSA
(gradually) “It’s not there, Billy. It doesn’t exist.”

BILLY
(puzzled) “What…what do you mean it doesn’t exist? You mean it’s not real.”

NYSSA
“No, that’s not it.”

BILLY
“You come from a different planet.”

NYSSA
“No, Billy! Please listen!” (Pause) “Traken’s gone.”

BILLY
“Gone?”

NYSSA
“It was destroyed.” (Pause) “That was how I met the Doctor. When my planet was destroyed.”

Moment of silence.

BILLY
“I see.”

NYSSA
“I’m sorry, Billy. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

BILLY
(saddened) “No, no. That’s fine.” (Pause) “I’m so sorry, Nyssa. I didn’t realise.”

After a moment of silence, Nyssa and Billy are then interrupted as Hilda and Boco turn up.

HILDA
(cheerfully) “Hey, you two lovebirds! Are you finished with your sandwiches?”

BILLY
(startled) “Err…yes. Thank you Hilda. They were nice. Weren’t they, Nyssa?”

NYSSA
“Yes. They were nice, thank you!”

BOCO
“Well! Sandy’s getting restless. We’d better set off before we have to catch up with him. So if you two are ready we’ll…”

BILLY
“Yes. Of course. We’re ready.”

Nyssa and Billy get up from the floor and stand to their feet.

NYSSA
“Where are we going, Mr. Boco.”

BOCO
“Just plain Boco, please Nyssa.”

HILDA
“And it’s just plain Hilda for me, sweetie.”

BOCO
“We’re going to make it back to my hut. Then we can do whatever you like from there. Whatever you had in mind.”

HILDA
“So we’d better set off then.”

BOCO
“Indeed. Come on.”

They all set off, as Boco and Hilda lead the way out of the Gamor rock cliff. Nyssa and Billy follow.

SCENE #131 – EXT – GAMOR ROCK CLIFFS, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
At the edge of the Gamor rock cliffs, Boco; Hilda; Nyssa and Billy return to where they first came in. They make to step onto the plains of Micros Pli.

HILDA
So then? Where did you leave the space-travel jeep?

BOCO
Not far. I think.

Moment of silence.

BOCO
(groans) Oh no!

BILLY
What is it?

BOCO
“Where is that silly Sandy?”

HILDA
(annoyed) “Oh no! He’s not gone again! We managed to find him, now we’ve lost him again!”

BOCO
I told you he was in a hurry!

HILDA
Well, let’s get back to the jeep anyway. He couldn’t have gone far!

BILLY
I think that’s the jeep over there! See?

They look to see where the space-travel jeep is.

NYSSA
(cries) Get down!

BILLY
What?

NYSSA
(cries; urgently) All of you, get down!

Nyssa, Billy, Boco and Hilda get down behind some rocks.

HILDA
(baffled) “What is it?”

NYSSA
“Look!”

They all then look over some rocks to see what is happening.

BILLY
(horrified) “Daleks?! How did they get here?”

HILDA
“Were they the ones that were trying to chase you, Billy?”

BILLY
“They could be. But I’d thought they would have stopped chasing me.”

NYSSA
“The Daleks are relentless.”

BOCO
“There’s about four of them! And they’re all around my jeep. What are they going to do?”

Boco’s question is answered, as the four Daleks surround the jeep. They raise their ray guns and aim on the jeep

DALEKS
“EXTERMINATE!”

The four Daleks open fire onto the jeep. The jeep blows up into smithereens. Fire flares from the jeep once it has been destroyed by the Daleks.

BOCO
“My jeep! They blew up my jeep! Those monsters!”

HILDA
“Good thing we’ve got the babies!”

BILLY
“What do we do now? We can’t go anywhere!”

NYSSA
“Let’s think this through, shall we?”

HILDA
“I don’t know about you, but I’m going back in those cliffs to hide.”

NYSSA
“No, Hilda, wait! Just wait a minute.”

HILDA
“I’m going!”

But before Hilda can go anywhere, she is stopped in her tracks by a Dalek who comes up behind the group in the rocks. This is the Dalek Hunter who raises its gun stick at Hilda.

DALEK HUNTER
“DO NOT MOVE!”

HILDA
(protests) “Oh no! That’s not fair!”

Everyone turns as they see the foreboding Dalek behind them as it trains it’s gun on them.

DALEK HUNTER
YOU WILL ALL STAND!

Boco; Nyssa and Billy stand up with Hilda, as they see the Dalek before them.

DALEK HUNTER
YOU ARE THE PRISONERS OF THE DALEKS! YOU WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE! YOU WILL BE TAKEN TO OUR SHIP! IF YOU FAIL TO OBEY OUR INSTRUCTIONS OR ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE, YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATED! EXTERMINATED! (Pause) MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!

Without choice; Boco, Hilda, Nyssa and Billy are forced by the Dalek Hunter to make for the Dalek ship.

BILLY
This is definitely not our day, is it?

SCENE #132 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
At the Dwaxi headquarters within Micros Warehouse #5 on Yondamus IV, a furious alarm blares off in the warehouse. Every Dwaxi trooper runs about frantically. They bump into each other; punch each other in the faces, spit at each other and say ghastly words to each other whilst the alarm blares off. Commander Targah enters to this pandemonium.

TARGAH
(yells; angrily) “WHAT IS THAT FREAKING SOUND?”

GABROG
“It’s an alarm, Commander!”

TARGAH
(yells; angrily) “I KNOW IT’S AN ALARM, YOU BOZO GABROG! I WANT TO KNOW WHY IT’S GOING OFF!”

The Blockade then enters.

BLOCKADE
(yells; furiously) “DALEKS! DALEKS! DALEKS! FREAKING DALEKS!”

TARGAH
“What are you blabbing about now, Blockade? What about those tin pots?”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “THERE ARE DALEKS ON THIS PLANET!”

TARGAH
WHAT?!

BLOCKADE
(yells) THEY ARE ROAMING ACROSS THE PLAINS OF MICROS PLI IN BROAD DAYLIGHT! THEY’VE EVEN GOT A SHIP LANDED HERE!

GABROG
Those junk-pots have gone too far! First they invade our space, now they land on our new B.O.O,!

BLOCKADE
(taunts Gabrog) BOO-HOO-HOO! BOO-HOO-HOO-HOO-HOO!!!!!

TARGAH
(angrily) SHUT UP, BLOCKADE! (Pause) We shall take our fight to the Daleks! (to Gabrog) Are all the communication stations ready?

GABROG
They’ve been ready for the past four hours, flunk-head!

TARGAH
“Good! We shall call our brothers! The Dwaxi Empire will be unleashed!” (to Blockade) “Blockade! Make the announcement!”

BLOCKADE
(yells) “YES SIR!”

The Blockade goes over to a communications desk and grabs a microphone. The Blockade raises the microphone to his mouth and speaks into it.

BLOCKADE
(yells) HELLO! HELLO!!! THIS IS BLOCKADE! ALRIGHT YOU LUMBER-HEADS! GET YOUR BUTTS OFF YOUR SEATS AND START SENDING OUT THE CALL! OUR COMMANDER WANTS OUR BROTHERS TO COME HERE! YOU HEAR ME! GET ON WITH IT! GET ON WITH IT NOW!! NOW! NOW!!!!!!

SCENE #133 – INT – MICROS COMMS STATION #4 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
At Micros Comms Station #4 nearby, the Dwaxi trooper working in the control room receives the Blockade’s instruction. The Dwaxi trooper switches off the intercom and addresses the Dwaxi technicians in the control room .

DWAXI TROOPER
(barks) Well! You heard what he said! Send the signals! And get on with it!

The Dwaxi technicians work furiously as they obey. They enter computations into the control panels, as the Dwaxi technicians begin to send the signals into space.

DWAXI TECHNICIAN
(bitterly) Sending signals…now!

SCENE #134 – EXT – MICROS PLI, YONDAMUS IV – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
The communication stations of the Micros Comms Institute in Micros Pli activate their satellite transmitters. Every transponders looks upwards, as each comms station transmits communication signals into the sky. The transmissions of these signals occurs at a frequent pace.

SCENE #135 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In deep space, the communication signals pass through the barriers of light of Yondamus IV’s outer shell. The signals are sent into a sector of deep space. No response is received yet.

SCENE #136 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
Back on Yondamus IV, Targah gets impatient. He stomps about with Gabrog and the Blockade watching him, as they all wait for an response to the signals being sent into space.

TARGAH
What’s taking them so long? Those idiots should have received our message by now!

Targah stomps a while longer before coming to a stop.

TARGAH
(impatiently) We’ve waited long enough! Those cranks at the comms stations aren’t sending the signals right!

GABROG
(agitated) Perhaps it takes time, sir! For the signal to be sent through the rift!

Targah grabs hold of Gabrog by the scruff of his neck.

TARGAH
(angrily) Don’t play clever with me, you stupid git! I want my messages sent and received! I want the rest of the Dwaxi fleet!

BLOCKADE
(shouts; loudly) COMMANDER! MESSAGE FROM THE COMMS INSTITUTE!

TARGAH
Well go on, you idiot! tell me! TELL ME!!! TELL ME NOW!!!

BLOCKADE
(yells) THE SIGNAL IS BEING SENT! THE MESSAGE IS RECEIVED! THE DWAXI EMPIRE…IS UNLEASHED!!!!!!!

SCENE #137 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
Back in deep space, a massive armada of Dwaxi ships slip through a crack in space and time. After the first Dwaxi fleet comes through, thousands more of these vessels bleed through the fault lines. The Dwaxi ships zoom into this universe, as their engines roar with fiery vengeance.

SCENE #138 – INT – MICROS WAREHOUSE #5 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING

BLOCKADE
(laughs; yells) TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE THOUSAND VESSELS ENTERING INTO THIS DUMP AND STILL COMING! OH, WE’VE GOT GLORY ON OUR BACKSIDES!

TARGAH
(overjoyed) “Brilliant! Tell them to send half the armada down to the planet! The other ships will board the perimeter of our base of operations.”

Blockade complies, as he picks up the microphone and speaks into it again.

BLOCKADE
(yells) “ALRIGHT, YOU LOT! IF YOU’RE CHEERING FOR JOY OR LAUGHING WITH HAVOC THEN SHUT UP AGAIN!!! TELL THE ARMADA TO SEND HALF OF THEM HERE, AND SEND THE REST OVER THERE! THERE OUR ENEMIES WILL FEAR US!” (Pause) “WELL GO ON! GET ON WITH IT!”

Whilst the Blockade barks commands into the microphone, Targah chuckles out loud menacingly.

TARGAH
(chuckles; menacingly) “Those Daleks will have a battering of a time!”

GABROG
“Yes, Commander! They will.”

TARGAH
(chuckles; menacingly) “And the whole universe will be in fear of us – our dominion!”

Targah’s chuckles turns into hysterical laughter as he delights in the horror the Dwaxi reek.

TARGAH
(laughs) “Death is victory!” (chants; to Dwaxi) “Death is victory, boys! Death is victory! DEATH IS VICTORY!!!”

DWAXI
(chants) “Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory! Death is victory!”

The Dwaxi chant continuously, including the gleeful Dwaxi Jack and the newly conditioned Dwaxi Nina.

SCENE #139 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
On Yondamus Prime in the Emperor’s Chamber, one of the Dalek Emperor’s Guards approaches to address its Emperor.

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
“EMPEROR!”

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) “SPEAK!”

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
MOON-RAKER CAPTAIN SULLEY CAPTURED. BEING BROUGHT TO JOIN THE DOCTOR IN LAB FOUR INSTANTLY.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) CONTINUE.

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
DALEK SPACE PATROLS REPORT THE PRESENCE OF A FURTHER DWAXI INTRUSION. THE FORCES OF THE DWAXI ARE MASSING.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) NO CONCERN. WE SHALL BE VICTORIOUS IN OUR RETALIATION! HAS THE MINING WORKINGS ON YONDAMUS PRIME BEEN COMPLETED!

DALEK EMPEROR GUARD
AFFIRMATIVE! DALEKS DESIGNATED TO MINING AREA HAVE CONFIRMED PROJECT DE-GRAVITATE SUCCESSFUL!

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) EXCELLENT! INITIATE THROTTLE ENGINES OF NEW DALEK SHIP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! INFORM DALEK UNITS INCLUDING MOTHERSHIP AND EARTH SHIP MOON-RAKER TO PREPARE TO DISEMBARK! DESTINATION: YONDAMUS FOUR!

Moment of silence

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms; annoyed) SEE TO IT!

SCENE #140 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
In deep space, Dalek fleets of ships moves forward away from Yondamus Prime. They make for their strategic positions in the direction of Yondamus IV. This includes standard battle ships and fleets, as well as the Dalek Mothership and the Moonraker now controlled by the Daleks. The planet is left abandoned once the ships have gone.

SCENE #141 – INT – DALEK LAB #4 – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
In Dalek Lab #4, the Doctor works hard with Elaine on the Yentias drug. There is then a fierce tremor where they are, and the whole room shudders around them.

ELAINE
(startled) Doctor? That noise?

DOCTOR
(startled) Yes. It sounded like a volcanic eruption. (to Dalek) Excuse me. What was that?

The fierce tremor then becomes violent, almost as if it’s an earthquake. The lab electronic doors then slide open, as Captain Sulley is pushed into the room by Colin. The Supreme Dalek also enters, taking up the rear. Captain Sulley then goes over to meet the Doctor and Elaine.

CAPTAIN
Doctor; Elaine?

DOCTOR
Captain Sulley! Splendid to see you again.

CAPTAIN
I’m pleased you’re both still alive!

ELAINE
Where did you come from?

CAPTAIN
“From the surface. Gavin got killed unfortunately. We escaped the mines and got to the surface…”

SUPREME DALEK
“SILENCE! YOU WILL REMAIN SILENT WHILST TAKE-OFF PROCEDURES ARE ENGAGED!”

CAPTAIN
Where’s the Ambassador? Togal?

ELAINE
He’s dead. He got killed by the Daleks for the sake of working for them.

CAPTAIN
I’m sorry to say I’m not happy to hear that!

DOCTOR
He succumbed to the power the Daleks would grant him. He got what he deserved!

SUPREME DALEK
THE AMBASSADOR WAS MERELY A PAWN IN OUR WORKS! HE HAS GIVEN THE DALEKS THE KEY TO OUR MASTER PLAN!

COLIN
Indeed he has.

ELAINE
(puzzled) Colin? Colin, what’s happened to you?

COLIN
What does it look like? I’m working with the Daleks now!

ELAINE
Oh come off it…

COLIN
(angrily) Shut up, Elaine! I’m fed up with your feminine and superior ways! You think you’re better than me because you’ve got a full rank of command, do you? Well I’m not standing for it! The Daleks have given me the power to command! And I’m not going to waste it!

DOCTOR
Colin! That Dalek philosophy won’t work! The Daleks are capable of twisting their words and getting you the glory you want to satisfy their own needs. They’re ruthless in their tactics!

COLIN
You’re wrong, Doctor. The Daleks will soon obliterate the Dwaxi forces and become the supreme rulers of the Universe.

ELAINE
What have they done to you, Colin? You didn’t kill Gavin, did you?

COLIN
“No! He killed himself when risking his life to save us. Now it was all for nothing!”

CAPTAIN
I don’t think so! He sacrificed his life so that he could save us. To save you and me Colin! To save our crew!

COLIN
A waste of time.

DOCTOR
No, Colin! That’s a sign of the humans’ greatest strength. Compassion. Compassion for other beings. To love and to be kind. To help and to care.

SUPREME DALEK
THOSE ARE WEAKNESSES OF HUMANITY! THE HUMAN FACTOR IS USELESS TO THE DALEKS! YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT, DOC-TOR!

The Supreme Dalek advances towards the Doctor, as they both look at each other in the eye. Moment of silence.

SUPREME DALEK
YOUR WORK IS NOT OVER, DOC-TOR! VERY SOON WE SHALL SET FORTH TO MEET OUR ENEMIES AND DESTROY DWAXI INFESTATION!

DOCTOR
“Really? And just how will you manage to do that? With a huge fleet? Dalek ships attacking the Dwaxi forces on Yondamus Four? You’ve tried that many times and many of your ships were destroyed, remember?”

SUPREME DALEK
“WE NEED NOT JUST DALEK SHIPS! WE HAVE THIS PLANET!”

DOCTOR
“Yondamus Prime?”

Suddenly, the lab shudders violent. Noises of drills occur from outside.

ELAINE
“What’s that? What’s going on? Why is everything shaking?”

SUPREME DALEK
“PROJECT: DE-GRAVITATE HAS BEEN ACHIEVED! THE DALEKS SHALL PILOT TO YONDAMUS FOUR!”

DOCTOR
“Project: De-gravitate? But that’s…”

SUPREME DALEK
“CORRECT, DOC-TOR! WE HAVE SET AN EXPLOSIVE CAPSULE INTO THE CORE OF YONDAMUS PRIME. THE MOLTEN CORE IS RELEASED AND ENGINE SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED! NOW WE CAN PILOT THIS PLANET ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE!”

Dalek Lab #4 shudders violently again. Everyone, except the Daleks, falls to the floor.  They soon get back to their feet, as Captain Sulley addresses the Doctor.

CAPTAIN
“Doctor? What are the Daleks saying? What do they mean?”

The lab shudders violently again.

DOCTOR
It means, Captain…that the Dalek’s are controlling the orbital path of Yondamus Prime. Ambassador Togal would not be happy to see this.

ELAINE
Orbital path of Yondamus Prime?

DOCTOR
The Daleks are taking us to Yondamus Four, Elaine. And they’re using Yondamus Prime as a spaceship.

SCENE #142 – EXT – YONDAMUS SPACE – 26TH CENTURY – N/A
The Daleks now pilot the planet of Yondamus Prime into space. The planet journeys for its destination to Yondamus IV. The Dalek fleet; the Dalek Mothership and the Moonraker travel alongside the Yondamus Prime planet at warp speed. On the surface of the planet, land masses fragment and oceans cause tidal waves and tsunamis all over.

SCENE #143 – INT – EMPEROR DALEK’S CHAMBER – 26TH CENTURY – EVENING
The Emperor Dalek’s pride is unwavering. Housed in its chamber, it looks down on its Dalek subjects and declares victory.

EMPEROR DALEK
(booms) THE PRIME PLANET OF YONDAMUS SHALL BE OUR WAR MACHINE! THE DALEKS SHALL OBLITERATE WITH THE MIGHT OF ALL ULTIMATE POWER. THE DWAXI SHALL DETERIORATE! EXTERMINATE THE DWAXI AND THE DALEKS WILL BE SUPREME AGAIN!

DALEKS
EXTERMINATE THE DWAXI AND THE DALEKS WILL BE SUPREME AGAIN! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

    Hi Tim

My goodness, what has the Doctor realised about what the Daleks are up to?

The scene with Captain Sulley and Colin escaping reminds me of the Dalek Invasion of Earth, with the scene at the mine, and hiding from the Dalek patrols. Very evocative.

    My goodness, Colin’s a traitor!

Oh, I’m glad Nyssa told Billy about Traken.

Oh dear, they’ve all been caught by the Daleks again!

Hmmm, that’s interesting, the way the Dwaxi are sending signals to others of their kind. Where are the signals going, and what will respond? Aha, the Dwaxi fleet! Things are going to heat up now!

And what are the Daleks up to in their mining activities? Wow, moving a whole planet! That’s ambitious, even for Daleks!

    Great cliffhanger ending, Tim!

Looking forward to seeing where this story goes next.

    Hi Leigh.

Thanks for your comments. Glad you ‘Part Three’ of ‘Doom of the Daleks’. Hope you enjoy ‘Part Four’ next.

    CHAPTER 11
Yes, the Doctor has got his long list of characters like Togal to go up against. I remember the first time I saw ‘Doctor Who’ with ‘Dalek’ and how fiercely passionate Chris Eccleston’s Doctor was when he scolded Henry Van Statten.

Well, this is the Dwaxi’s introduction to ‘Doctor Who’ and they are a pretty complex set of villains to deal with at the moment. I had problems writing the Dwaxi and tried to make them interesting in the stories I wrote with them in it as I didn’t want them to be too two-dimensional and being all angry and aggressive all the time. I think the drug elements of the Dwaxi makes them interesting as well as the Directors who direct them. It was an interesting writing experience on how the Doctor, Nyssa, Billy and other characters encounter them and how they gradually learn more about who they are; where they come from and why they do the brutal things they do in this story.

I certainly wanted to give the Dwaxi a good introduction to ‘Doctor Who’ and having them appear in a Dalek story made sense as it balances how they get introduced and how the Daleks face them in terms of aggression and strength. Saying that, it was a challenge to balance the Daleks and the Dwaxi out. I don’t think I gave the Dwaxi much of a wider berth since I wanted the Daleks to feature more in the story. But this is the Dwaxi’s introduction after all and having the Daleks focus on destroying the Dwaxi worked well for me. I would develop the Dwaxi later on in other stories without the presence of the Daleks.

I felt it was important to have the Doctor flippant to the Daleks, even in the most critical and dangerous of times. It was a way of balancing the story with some humour despite its dark and bleak tone with the Daleks and the Dwaxi in it. The Daleks are hiding a secret, that’s for certain. They seem to making claims that the Doctor knows aren’t necessarily true and that’s another element of Dalek behavior I wanted to explore in this story.

I’m glad you liked how I wrote the Emperor Dalek in this story. I could clearly hear Nick Briggs’ voice as the Emperor Dalek when I wrote this story, both from ‘The Mutant Phase’ and ‘The Parting of the Ways’.

I liked your idea of Yondamus IV having underground streams of fresh water eels. I think that works and makes sense. Hilda must have got the eels in the nick of time before the Dwaxi devastated the planet and probably drained the water supplies. If the Dwaxi have done that, perhaps they don’t like water very much, hey? 😀

Apparently you can eat eels as food as it’s part of Japanese and Chinese cuisine. Having radish and eel sandwiches must be Hilda’s own recipe. I wonder if Hilda’s tried that recipe on others and whether they like it. I know Boco doesn’t like them, but it does make you think doesn’t it? 😀

I’m glad you liked it when Sandy jumped on Billy and he got stuck underneath him. It was a moment of tension and humour before Nyssa turned up and Boco and Hilda confirmed the Globtol was Sandy. Of course, you suspected that Sandy was the Globtol after all, didn’t you? Interesting that Boco and Hilda have him as a pet isn’t it?

No it wasn’t fair for Nina to be converted into a Dwaxi. It did seem cruel, but that’s exactly what the Dwaxi do and it shows another interesting side to them when they become ruthless and don’t make any exceptions when they turn people into one of them. I wanted people to really warm to Nina when she interacts with Nyssaa, before they get the shock of what happened to her later on in the story.

It was very difficult to write for additional crew members later on in the story aboard the Moonraker. Captain Sulley, Elaine and Colin seem to be the only ones left, although Colin doesn’t seem like he’s going to have a good innings later on in the story is he, considering what he’s revealed to be.

    CHAPTER 12
What has the Doctor discovered early on in the chapter? Well, you found that for yourself by the end of the chapter haven’t you?! 😀

It’s interesting, isn’t it?, how the Doctor’s mind works when he’s suspecting the Daleks are not telling him everything and how he quickly works out what they’re up to and what they intend to do with Yondamus IV in connection to the mine workings on the planet. I liked that moment when the Daleks tell the Doctor they have his TARDIS and that he can’t get into it and he seems casual about it, mocking that they can’t get into it either.

Oh good! I’m glad that scene with Captain Sulley and Colin escaping put you in mind of ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ and that it was very evocative for you. I’m sure I must have seen that TV story a number of times before writing that story to put me in mind of scenes like that. The mine scenes of Yondamus IV were especially inspired and reminiscent of ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’ and ‘Destiny of the Daleks’ all written by the great Terry Nation.

Yes! Colin a traitor! I bet you didn’t see that coming. Did you suspect he might be, even from his belligerent behavior to everyone including the Doctor, Nyssa, Billy and Elaine in the story?

I’m glad you liked the scene where Nyssa tells Billy about Traken. I felt it was appropriate to have that moment when the two reunite with each other and have a quiet moment before the plot thickens again. Did you like how I handled that scene when Nyssa tells Billy about Traken and how he responds to it?

Yes, Nyssa, Billy, Boco and Hilda have indeed been caught by the Daleks again. It’s not their day, as Billy says. What’s going to happen to them do you think? Will they survive in ‘Part Four’?

I’m glad you found it interesting when the Dwaxi sent signals into space for the Dwaxi fleet to come in. Isn’t it terrifying that they have over two hundred ships in the Dwaxi fleet? It makes you wonder what their Dwaxi world is like; how many there are and whether it comes from in terms of an alternative dimension or an alternative future.

What do you make of the Dwaxi’s war cry, ‘Death is victory!’

What do you make of the rift in time and space connected to the Dwaxi. Does it seem familiar somehow to other rifts in ‘Doctor Who’?

I’m pleased that the Daleks moving Yondamus Prime shocked and amazed you. The Daleks did try something like that before when they mined the Earth in ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’. This is the same idea, as it’s called ‘project de-gravitate’. Since Earth can’t be moved (not yet anyway until ‘The Stolen Earth’), why not do the same with Yondamus Prime and make it like a spaceship as the Daleks tried to in ‘Invasion of Earth’. Of course, it is very ambitious and there will be disasters and consquences on the way as the Daleks will find out in ‘Part Four’ in the story.

Glad you enjoyed that cliff-hanger ending, Leigh. Hope you enjoy ‘Part Four’ next!

Looking forward to hearing your comments on the next chapter.

    Thanks.

    Tim. 🙂

    Hi Tim

It’s good, isn’t it, to see a story like ‘Dalek’ and remember that that is a core part of who the Doctor is; fighting against people like that, who are blinded by their own greed and force others to make the sacrifices for them.

Definitely, I think the Dwaxi are interesting, precisely because there’s so much we don’t know about them. I think that’s what makes creations like the Klingon so interesting – they could be violent and mindless, but they’re really not. Of course the Dwaxi are their own creatures, with their own cultural background and drivers, and it’s a good reminder that we have no idea what that background is; all we see, is in fact more than most of the characters in the story know about as individuals, so we know more than them, but still way less than the sum of what and who the Dwaxi are.

Having the characters find out about the Dwaxi, so far at least, largely through their interaction with the Daleks is a very good way to do it, as it leaves everyone knowing only their own bit of the characters. We, as audience get a privileged view of more, but still a lot less than the total, of all the characters. Being able to write characters who are well-rounded enough to be able to be further developed in other stories is key, I think. One dimensional monsters, or aliens who are defeated in one story and who have no capacity for returning, or being further developed, is disappointing. They are never really well-rounded enough to have been built upon.

I quite agree with your characterisation of the Doctor in his relation with the Daleks, and that the Daleks are playing several games. Making them appear to underestimate the Doctor, and what he is capable of, is important for the Doctor to be able to hopefully find out what the full picture is that he has to deal with.

Definitely, I think you have written the Emperor Dalek well. Aurally, I could well imagine it, and in a written format I think it’s working well, too. Certainly the stories I have read with the Daleks in, I can imagine them voicing the words, and this works perfectly in your story, as well. The Emperor Dalek is differentiated sufficiently from the other Daleks, and sounds quite right.

I think the idea of the underground streams would work; that would allow for retention and treatment of water, too, wouldn’t it, for Hilda and Boco and the family. The Dwaxi probably don’t like water very much; I can’t imagine them drinking it, or using it for washing very often! They don’t seem like they’d care about those things very much.

I can imagine someone liking radish and eel sandwiches, but I can agree with Boco that I wouldn’t like them! Doesn’t appeal at all.

It is interesting that Sandy is a pet; goes to show, what the Doctor is always so good at showing us, that you can’t judge on appearance alone, or on first impressions.

It was a shock, and unfair for that fate to befall Nina. Especially when she had seen it done to Jack, and had to live with the fear of it happening to her, and then having it happen.

I think it’s good, when writing about the crew complement of a large ship like the Moonraker to take a few characters and make them representative of what happens to others like them in the crew, which is what you’ve done. Otherwise, you end up with too many people, and too many cuts to other actions, don’t you, which doesn’t really work so well. Well, I must admit to not liking Colin very much, but I think he is a very mixed up person.

My goodness, I have found out what the Doctor discovered! There were many shocks and surprises in Chapter 12!

I think the Doctor likes to know where the Tardis is; when the Tardis was seemingly lost in a story like The Burning Prince, he gets very agitated about getting back to it, doesn’t he?

Definitely, I was reminded of the Dalek Invasion of Earth, and Destiny of the Daleks; that Terry Nation-type feel to the story was very evocative, and very ‘right’ for a Dalek story like this, I think. The Daleks seem to always try to revert to tried and true methods don’t they, even when they’ve failed for them before. They seem, sometimes, to be stuck in a roll of things that they think must work, if only they could stop the Doctor foiling them all the time.

I didn’t see Colin’s treachery coming at all! I thought he was grumpy and not a very pleasant person, but I didn’t think he was going to be turning to the Daleks, at all!

I think the way you handled the issue of Traken was extremely well done; Nyssa and Billy were both very much in character, and it was a nice poignant moment for them to share. They both handled it very well, and you have written it very well.

I’d like to think they’ll all survive Part Four; I think Boco and Hilda deserve to be found somewhere nice to live with Sandy and the children, after all they’ve been through. They’re good people, and they do deserve a good ending, even though I know that’s not always guaranteed in a Doctor Who story, by any means!

I did like the part where the Dwaxi are sending for reinforcements; that was very spooky; reminded me of one of those old black and white early sci-fi films, with the waves emanating from one point, and radiating out in to space, to be answered by the call of a fleet of ships appearing through the dark space. I do wonder about the Dwaxi homeworld, and what they’re up to, still. Maybe we won’t find out all the answers in this story, that’s okay, because as we agree, they’re characters who are much ‘bigger’ than this one story, and it’s good to have other aspects of them that we can come back to in other stories, or in our imaginations! Oh, yes, is it an alternative dimension or an alternative future? That’s a big question, isn’t it?

The Dwaxi’s war cry reminds me of the Klingons ‘Today is a good day to die’. The same warrior culture, but sacrifice of them all to meet their own destiny, seems a similar trait in the cultures.

The Dwaxi rift seems intriguing, what can have caused it, and what does the Doctor fear about what may be on the other side? Lots of questions!

The Daleks always like to think big, with moving a whole planet, don’t they? I can’t imagine it would really be a very feasible thing to do, but they do like to try to do what others think is impossible, by throwing big numbers of slaves and expendable Daleks at things, don’t they?

Looking forward to the next chapter, Tim, this is a great read.

I told you about Colin, i didn’t like him from the start & now he’s turned traitor, i knew he was only interrsted in serving his own ends, i hope he gets a gruesome death lol.

I know the Doctors going to do something very clever, never let the Doctor have access to a lab of chemicals, i wonder what he’ll do? You have me intrigued Mr Bradley.

Loved the dialogue between Nyssa & Billy, she found it difficult to talk about Traken & i like how the affection by Billy was subtlety played & Billys quote about it’s not our day made me laugh, he reminds me of myself when facing a stressful situation i tend to crack a joke or wisecrack.

The Daleks are evil in this Tim you really made them menacing & a genuine threat & the Dwaxi are a wonderful advisory you created to fight against them.

I hope Hilda & Boco don’t die as i love there characters who are warm & kind hearted.

Yes! So you know about Colin now! I couldn’t reveal his treachery until you got to this chapter! I’m glad you’ve reached this part of the story to find out about who Colin truly is in working for the Daleks. Let’s see what happens to him later on in the story, shall we? 😀

Hmm, yes how will the Doctor use the lab given to him by the Daleks to his advantage I wonder. Will he find the antigen for the Dwaxi drug or not? I’m glad I’ve got you intrigued, Simon. I hope you’ll enjoy what the Doctor does as he works out the problem later on in the story.

I’m glad you liked the dialogue between Nyssa and Billy when they were talking about Traken. I’m glad you liked how it was played out between them. I’m pleased I wrote that scene in the story.

Glad you liked the quote Billy made about him saying ‘This is not our day’. I liked that moment too as it is down-to-earth and shows how Billy can be flippant about things when he and his friends get into trouble. Interesting that Billy reminds you of yourself in a stressful situatIon with a joke or a wisecrack. I’m pleased you’re able to relate to him. 🙂

I’m pleased I’ve impressed you with the Daleks and Dwaxi as villains in this story. It was a challenge trying to balance their evil and villiany throughout this story. But I’m pleased they’ve gripped you throughout this story so far.

I’m glad you love the characters of Boco and Hilda in this story. Will they die or not in this story? Well, find out in the next chapter! 😀

What have the Daleks done to Yondamus Prime then?! Project De-gravitate, hey?! What did you make of that cliff-hanger moment?

Glad you enjoyed Part Three of the story, Simon. Hope you enjoy the last episode of this story.

    Tim. 🙂
