Christopher H. Bidmead (1941-2005), Nabil Shaban (1953-2005) & Prunella Scales (1932-2005)

Hello everyone 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley.

I’d like to pay tribute to three people that we sadly lost this year – Christopher Hamilton Bidmead, Nabil Shaban and Prunella Scale. I never got to meet these three in real life, sadly, but I have enjoyed their contributions to certain TV shows I’ve watched many times. Continue reading

‘Beast Wars’ Review #22 – ‘Before the Storm’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

We come now to the penultimate story in Season 1 of the ‘Beast Wars: Transformers’ TV series called ‘Before the Storm’. This is a prelude to the two-part finale ‘Other Voices’. In this episode, an alien golden disc is discovered and Megatron establishes a truce between the Maximals and the Predacons. Optimus Primal and the Maximals work on finding out what Megatron has discovered, but they need to do it via peaceful means. I never saw this episode on TV back in the 1990s via GMTV, which is a shame. But I’m pleased to have seen it in the ‘Beast Wars’ 15th anniversary DVD box set for Christmas in December 2011. Things that were established in episodes like ‘Chain of Command’ and ‘The Trigger’ are built upon and come to together in the concluding story of Season 1 of ‘Beast Wars’. Is ‘Before the Storm’ a worthy prelude to what’s to come in the two-part finale of Season 1 of the ‘Beast Wars’ TV series? Continue reading

Novelization/Audiobook Review – ‘Doctor Who – The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

In case you’ve missed it yesterday, I’ve added a brand-new review on the Target novelization/audiobook of the ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’ by Stephen Wyatt, based on the original TV scripts by him. The story features the Seventh Doctor and Ace, and takes place on the planet Segonax. The TARDIS duo visit the planet Segonax to check out the Psychic Circus where they meet a variety of characters, including Captain Cook, Mags, the Ringmaster, Morgana, the Chief Clown, Bellboy, Deadbeat, the Gods of Ragnarok, etc. The 2013 audiobook for ‘Doctor Who – The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’ is read by Sophie Aldred, who plays Ace in the classic TV series and the Big Finish audios. Season 25 of ‘Doctor Who’ with Sylvester McCoy on Blu-ray #4

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

And here we are on the fourth and final story in Season 25 of the classic ‘Doctor Who’ TV series, starring Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor and Sophie Aldred as Ace. I’m glad we’ve reached this point in completing Season 25 of classic ‘Doctor Who’, as we look into ‘The Greatest Show in the Galaxy’, a four-part story by Stephen Wyatt, who previously wrote ‘Paradise Towers’ in Season 24. I’ve updated and extended my thoughts on the story, based on my revisit of ‘Greatest Show’ via the Season 25 Blu-ray box set. There are two versions of ‘Greatest Show’ on Blu-ray, including the original four-part story and the Special Edition version. With the Special Edition version however, ‘Parts One and Three’ are given the extended treatment along with brand-new CGI effects. Continue reading

‘Beast Wars’ Review #21 – ‘Law of the Jungle’

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

After the comedic antics of the filler episode ‘The Low Road’ in the ‘Beast Wars: Transformers’ TV series, it’s time for a serious filler episode before we get to the last three episodes that conclude Season 1. It’s time for ‘Law of the Jungle’. Not to be confused with the new animated ‘Spider-Man’ series episode of the same name. 😀 In this episode, Cheetor and Dinobot are attacked by Inferno, Waspinator and Terrorsaur. Tigatron helps Cheetor and Dinobot once they’re outnumbered, but loses his dear friend Snowstalker – a fellow snow tiger – during the battle. This upsets Tigatron who decides to leave the Beast Wars for good. This is an episode I saw in the ‘Beast Wars’ 15th anniversary DVD box set for Christmas in December 2011. Is this a ‘Beast Wars’ episode worth my attention? Do I think there are things that could be improved with this episode, especially concerning Tigatron’s grief over the loss of his dear tiger friend Snowstalker? Continue reading
