‘CARDIFF TO SNOWDONIA’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

We come to the end of Series 1 of the documentary series that I enjoyed watching on Channel 4 for three weeks on a Saturday evening at 8 o’clock in February 2019. I had no idea there’d be a Series 2.
I was sad when it seemed to come to an end in February 2019. I enjoyed watching Christopher Timothy and Peter Davison from the original ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ doing these road trips. 🙂
The third episode of this documentary series is something that’s close to my heart and it feels more at home for me and my parents. Even when re-watching it on DVD, we had a personal connection. 🙂
For you see, the third episode has Peter and Chris taking their third road trip from Cardiff to Snowdonia in Wales. This was pretty exciting for my parents and me when we watched the episode.
Peter and Chris drive through Rhondda Valley, across the Brecon Beacons, and into Aberystwyth before they reach breathtaking Snowdonia. I hope to visit more of Wales after seeing this episode. 🙂
It’s amazing to think that Peter and Chris were in Cardiff for the episode as they filmed the start of their journey in Cardiff Docks. I missed them by a mile. I must have been at work at the time here! 😀
Once again, the ‘dynamic duo’ get to travel in Peter’s Morgan 4/4. I really must check with Peter at a convention to find out if that really was his vehicle or if he just used it for this documentary series. 😀
It was fun to see the banter and camaraderie between Peter and Chris as they drove through the Welsh countryside. They share their enjoyment of the journey and what they think of Wales itself. 🙂
It was interesting to discover that Chris Timothy was actually born in Bala, Wales in 1940. I had no idea that he was a Welshman until I saw this episode. Isn’t that amazing to discover? Quite uncanny!
It’s quite a contrast in how he played James Herriot in the original ‘All Creatures’ series since the character was meant to be Scottish. Why couldn’t they have made James ‘Welsh’ instead of ‘Scottish’?
It was nice to see Peter and Chris return to Chris’ hometown of Bala. Chris gets to reunite with an old friend of his and his wife. Bala does look to be a nice town. I don’t think I have visited Bala before. 😐
This episode was a bit of a nostalgia trip for my parents and me. As we watched Peter and Chris drive through Wales, my parents recognised and remembered the places we had been to for our holidays.
This was in West Wales many years ago. It was slightly vague for me when I was watching the episode at the time and on DVD. I was a kid back then and it was a long time ago for me to recall! 😀
It was fun to see Peter and Chris discover the origins of the AA…in an eerie TARDIS-like styled phone box. For all I know, it could’ve been a TARDIS from ‘Doctor Who’. 😀 Perhaps it’s Lady Mite’s TARDIS!
I also enjoyed it when Peter playacted with Chris in a recreation of a vintage speed trap that was used many years ago during the 1920s. So amusing! 😀 Peter was determined to have Chris ‘nicked’.
The episode was well-worth it to see to the end as Peter and Chris travelled via train on rail-track up the mountain of Snowdon to get to the top. I’m sure they enjoyed the train trip up the mountain. 😀
My parents and I have been to Snowdonia twice for our holidays. We went up the Snowdon mountain twice. First was by train; the other was by walking up the mountain. Seriously, we walked!
And of course when Peter and Chris get up to the top of Snowdon, instead of a clear view, they get a foggy mist as the top of the mountain is covered in clouds. It was so funny to see that in the episode.
Trust me, my parents and I have been there before with our trips to the summit of Snowdon! It always seemed to get misty whenever we went up there. It must be rare to get a pretty ‘clear’ view.
I enjoyed Series 1 of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ very much. It was a highlight for me in February 2019. I enjoyed seeing Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy together for this documentary series.
They get to share their love for 1930s nostalgia with vintage cars in their incredible journeys through Scotland, England and Wales. I’d been looking forward to this series and it was all very well worth it.
‘Cardiff to Snowdonia’ rating – 9/10
