‘London to Land’s End’ (TV)

‘LONDON TO LAND’S END’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

We’re back for another episode of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ with Christopher Timothy and Peter Davison, which was shown on Channel 4 in February 2019! In the US, it was shown in October 2018.

In the previous episode ‘Inverness to the Isle of Skye’, Chris and Peter took a vintage road trip in Scotland. In this episode, the original ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ duo take a road trip in England.

I enjoyed the second episode of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ very much. It was nice to see and hear Chris and Peter share their nostalgia about the road trips they used to have when they were kids. 😀

Peter gets a chance to share with Chris a ‘Davison’ family tradition of having roadside picnics. From watching this, I think it’d be a good idea if my parents and I did a roadside picnic when on holiday. 🙂

In the second episode of ‘Great British Car Journeys’, Chris and Peter take a journey by travelling on the A30 from London, through the ever-changing English countryside, to Cornwall and Land’s End. 🙂

Thankfully, this car journey for England was less treacherous than the car journey for Scotland. Chris and Peter drive through the Yorkshire Dales in the episode, where they filmed ‘All Creatures’ itself. 🙂

I enjoyed it when Chris and Peter got the chance to ride in some dodgem cars at a fairground on the journey. It put me in mind of when I did dodgems at a fair in Weston-super-Mare in August 2016. 😀

It was equally fun when Chris and Peter visited Tintagel Castle in Cornwall where it’s said the King Arthur legend is there. Peter is sceptical on it whilst Chris is keenly convinced, which was so amusing.

I found it amusing when re-watching this episode on DVD that Chris found the King Arthur legend more believable than the ‘Star Wars’ legends. I think that’s a reasonable argument on Chris’ part. 😀

I really like the usage of 1930s music being played in the background for these episodes in the ‘Great British Car Journeys’ series. It suits the series in being all about nostalgia; the 1930s and such here. 🙂

Chris and Peter get to see and ride in vintage cars that belong to aficionado owners. It must have been tense for Chris and Peter when some of these vintage vehicles sometimes went out of control.

One of the vehicles in question was a motor-powered horseless-drawn carriage that Peter and Chris got to ride in. At first, it wouldn’t start properly. The second time though, they were really on the go.

I found it fun when Chris got to ride in a haulage truck whilst Peter watched on, seemingly put out that he didn’t get to ride it in it as well (I think). Chris must’ve been lucky to ride in the haulage truck.

I’m curious about how Peter can pick up Chris at the beginning of each episode in his Morgan 4/4 when the two could have carried on from where they last left off e.g. Scotland. It’s pretty bizarre! 😀

Also, is the Morgan 4/4 really Peter’s? I’ll have to ask him the next time I see him at a future convention or a comic con. 😀 I look forward to chatting to Peter about doing this enjoyable series. 🙂

It was funny when Chris and Peter drove in the Morgan 4/4 with the cover down, because it was dry…only for it to rain heavily afterwards. And this is when they’re on a busy road. Quite bad timing!

I wished that Chris and Peter could have stopped somewhere in order to put the cover back up and avoided the rain. Thankfully, they did reach Land’s End safely by the time the episode had finished. 🙂

I did laugh when Peter and Chris had to change lanes and Peter almost mucked it when directing Chris into the right lane. Thankfully whatever swear word Chris said was censored in the episode. 😀

It was nice how the episode ended with Chris and Peter taking a photo at Land’s End, matching to one that Peter did of him and his friends from many years ago. Peter looks so different in the 1970s.

At this point, I’m enjoying ‘Great British Car Journeys’ with Christopher Timothy and Peter Davison. I thought how sad it would be when the first series would soon be over when watching this in 2019. 🙁

I’m pleased I’ve seen Chris and Peter together in this series as they clearly share a great camaraderie together, being firm life-long friends since their ‘All Creatures’ days. It’s pretty reassuring indeed. 😀

‘London to Land’s End’ rating – 8/10
