Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Today, it’s my dear sister’s – Bethan – birthday. She would have been 38 today. Traditionally, I usually share a blog post or a review on the 19th of September every year to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Usually, it would be an in-depth review on a Disney film she loved. 🙂
My sister was 6 years old when she passed away in 1993. I was 4 years old at the time. She died due to complications in an operation she had. I was unaware of what was happening to Bethan at the time, and it was years later my parents would tell me about it.
It’s very sad that I never got to grow up with a sister I loved being with as a kid. I have vague memories of my sister when I was growing up as a toddler, but they were very happy memories indeed. Some of those memories were recorded on VHS for me and my family.
One of the things my parents shared with me about Bethan was her love of certain Disney films she enjoyed watching when growing up. Over the years, I’ve shared an in-depth review on a Disney film per year to commemorate my sister’s memory and celebrate her birthday.
In 2017, I shared an in-depth review on the 1953 animated Disney film ‘Peter Pan’. It’s one of Bethan’s absolute favourite films. I’m sure my parents and I see it every year. 😀 I created a new ‘Peter Pan’ page at the time, allowing me to do more ‘Peter Pan’-related reviews. 🙂
In 2018, I shared an in-depth review on the 1977 live-action Disney film ‘Pete’s Dragon’, another of Bethan’s favourite films. As a kid, I’d vague memories of seeing the film. Over the years, I’ve gained more out of watching the film multiple times and I’ve enjoyed it very much.
Some of the Disney film reviews I’ve shared haven’t all been on Bethan’s birthday. In April 2017, I shared an in-depth review on ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. In January 2019, I shared my in-depth reviews on the films ‘Lady and the Tramp’, ‘Cinderella’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’.
‘The Little Mermaid’, especially, is one of my sister’s favourite films. Like ‘Peter Pan’, I see the 1989 animated Disney film ‘The Little Mermaid’ every year. Even as a kid, the film stands out for me when I saw it back in the 1990s and I’m very pleased I’ve reviewed it.
In September 2019, I shared an in-depth review on the 1942 film ‘Bambi’. This is another Disney film that stood out for me when I saw it as a kid. I can’t recall if I saw ‘Bambi’ with Bethan as a kid, but we did watch a lot of Disney films and ‘Sing-Along Songs’ VHS tapes as kids.
In September 2020, I reshared my in-depth review on the 1953 animated Disney film ‘Peter Pan’ and I shared my in-depth review on the 2002 sequel ‘Return to Never Land’. Although my sister never saw ‘Return to Never Land’ as a kid, I’m sure she would’ve enjoyed the film very much.
In September 2021, I shared an in-depth review on ‘The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea’, the 2000 direct-to-video sequel to the 1989 film ‘The Little Mermaid’, which we saw on Disney+. In that same month, I shared an in-depth review on the 2015 film ‘Cinderella’.
In 2022, on Bethan’s birthday in September, I shared an in-depth review on ‘Bambi 2’, the 2006 direct-to-video sequel to the 1942 animated film. In May 2023, I saw the live-action remake of ‘The Little Mermaid’ at the cinema. I shared a quick review on it at the time. 🙂
In September 2023, I shared a picture of my sister Bethan having a tea party with my two cuddly toy dogs Snuggles and Puddles, drawn by the sister of one of my Dad’s friends. In September 2024, I shared an in-depth review on the 2023 live-action film ‘The Little Mermaid’.
It’s been nice to commemorate my sister Bethan on her birthday in September every year by doing in-depth reviews on some of the Disney films she enjoyed watching as a kid. I’m looking forward to when I get the chance to do another in-depth review on a Disney film soon.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

I am so sorry for your loss, Tim. I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a sibling at such a young age. Thank you for sharing your reflections of Bethan.

Thanks scifimike,
My parents and I saw the original Disney film ‘Peter Pan’ last week and we’ve just seen the original Disney film ‘Pete’s Dragon’ to commemorate Bethan. We’re just about to have some of Bethan’s birthday cake.
Best wishes,
Tim 🙂
