Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Christmas Eve today! A fitting film to check out at Christmas time is of course ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’, the third film of the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film series. 😀 I greatly enjoyed seeing the third ‘Sonic’ movie at the cinema recently. I saw it on Monday the 23rd of December. 🙂
It’s amazing how far these films have come and how popular they are. The first ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film came out in February 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic happened. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ came out in April 2022 over the Easter holidays, which was great.
Now we have the third film and it’s just as good and entertaining as the first two movies. They’re action-packed and full of laughs. I especially enjoyed the flashback scene of Knuckles screaming scared when he, Sonic and Tails were watching the ‘Casper’ film. 😀
That made me laugh out loud. And of course, it was great to see Jim Carrey return not only as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, but as his grandfather Gerald Robotnik. I know Jim Carrey said he wasn’t going to do any more ‘Sonic’ films, but clearly the film’s script impressed him a lot.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ has our three main heroes Sonic, Tails and Knuckles facing a new enemy in the form of Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves. Shadow has allied himself with Robotnik and his grandfather in pursuit of revenge against all of humanity. 😐
I admit, I’m not so familiar with the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ franchise to know the characters inside-out, but it was fun to be introduced to Shadow as a villain in this film. It was intriguing to uncover his backstory on why he was a villain concerning a girl he befriended.
Once again, Ben Schwartz returns to voice Sonic as well as Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles. All the voice actors in the film perform tremendously well as their characters and I really enjoyed the scenes that feature Sonic, Tails and Knuckles.
There’s James Marsden and Tika Sumpter who return as the Wachowskis – Tom and Maddie. Like the second film, they don’t get to do so much in this film compared to the first film, but it was nice they helped Sonic, Tails and Knuckles when they visited London.
And yes, we get to go to London in this film as well as Tokyo, Japan. I wonder if this film was inspired by ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ at some point. 😀 Tom and Maddie also go in disguise as Randall, Rachel’s husband (who was in the second film) and Rachel too. 😀
I’m surprised Randall and Rachel didn’t really appear in the film as their characters as I expected them to from seeing the film’s trailers. Thankfully, Shemar Moore and Natasha Rothwell play them when Tom and Maddie disguise as them, but it was still quite peculiar.
Ozzie (or is it Ozzy), Tom and Maddie’s dog appears in this film too. There’s Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, Adam Pally as Wade Whipple and Tom Butler as Commander Walters. Krysten Ritter gets introduced as a new character in this movie called Director Rockwell.
There’s also Alyla Browne as Maria, the girl that Shadow befriends in the film. Apparently, Cristo Fernández, who was the bartender in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (both versions) and ‘Venom: The Last Dance’, plays two characters in a telenovela that Robotnik watches. 🙂
As usual, Jim Carrey is very entertaining in his over-the-top manner, both as the young Robotnik and the older Robotnik. I expected nothing less of him and I’m pleased he returned to play the two Robotniks in ‘Sonic 3’. I don’t know if he’ll come back for a fourth film. 😐
Maybe he will. You never can be sure. There’s a post-credits scene that sets up a possible ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ involving multiple Metal Sonics (from the OVA movie, I believe) and Amy Rose. Whether ‘Sonic 4’ will happen is another matter. I hope it will. 🙂
It’s been great to check out ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ at the cinema lately. I had a fun time watching the film and it was nice to see it after a three-course Frankie & Benny’s meal. 😀 I’m sure I’ll be revisiting the third film again soon with ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ in full detail.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
