Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
This past Wednesday, I saw the latest Christmas film ‘Red One’ at the cinema. At the time, I didn’t know the film was going to be released on Amazon Prime Video the day after, so I could have saved some money and waited until the movie came out for home viewing.
But hey, I saw the film on the big screen and I’m glad I did, since it’s a fun film to check out. I saw the trailers for the film before it came out on the 6th of November in the UK. To be honest, I think the film should have come out in December in order to get more people in cinemas.
I don’t usually see brand-new Christmas films at the cinema. Usually, it’s re-releases of classic Christmas films that I’ve enjoyed over the years. But from watching the trailers and knowing Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons are in it, it looked exciting.
‘Red One’ is a film about Dwayne Johnson playing Callum Drift, the head of North Pole security who teams up with Chris Evans as Jack O’Malley, a hacker, as they work together to locate Santa Claus (played by J. K. Simmons) who’s been kidnapped on Christmas Eve.
It was so entertaining to see Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J. K. Simmons in this Christmas film, having seen them in previous films over the years. Dwayne Johnson has been in two ‘Jumanji’ movies and he’s also been in the DC superhero film ‘Black Adam’.
Chris Evans is well-known for playing Captain America in the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ films, although in this film, he’s more like Johnny Storm from the two ‘Fantastic Four’ films he did than Captain America. He works well with Dwayne Johnson.
J. K. Simmons is very good playing Santa Claus, or ‘Nick’ as he’s often called in the film. I know him for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the ‘Spider-Man’ movies, both the original film trilogy and two recent ‘MCU’ films. Him as Santa Claus is so different compared to Jameson. 😀
The film also features Lucy Liu as Zoe Harlow, the director of a mythological being division, I believe. 😀 You might recognise Lucy Liu for being in the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ films with Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. I’ve not seen those films, so I can’t comment.
There’s Kiernan Shipka as Grýla, the film’s villain, and Bonnie Hunt as Mrs. Claus. Bonnie Hunt is another name I recognise, as she’s been in the first two ‘Beethoven’ films, the first ‘Jumanji’ film and she voiced Dolly in ‘Toy Story 3 and 4′. It was nice to see her in this. 🙂
The film’s cast also includes Kristofer Hivju as Krampus, Nick Kroll as Ted, Wesley Kimmel as Dylan, the son of Chris Evans’ character Jack, and Mary Elizabeth Eliss as Olivia, Jack’s ex-partner and Dylan’s mother. It was intriguing to see Jack’s family members in this film.
There’s Marc Evan Jackson as Uncle Rick, Jenna Kanell as one of Krampus’ guests and Gursharn Arya as Drako. There’s Agent Garcia, a talking polar bear, voiced by Reinaldo Faberlle. The action scene with the monster-like Snowmen was quite exciting to watch. 🙂
There’s an edge to this film, particularly with the action sequences throughout and presenting the North Pole in a more action-packed atmosphere compared to other Christmas films. But it didn’t stop the film from being very fun-filled and very Christmasy.
I’m very pleased I saw ‘Red One’ at the cinema recently. I’m glad the film has come out recently on Amazon Prime Video and I’m sure I’ll be seeing the film again soon over the Christmas holidays. It’s also quite nice to see these films on the big screen when you can.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
