Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
When I was in Cheltenham last week, I purchased the latest ‘Tom and Jerry’ film on DVD, which is ‘Tom and Jerry: Snowman’s Land’. This was released like eleven months after the release of ‘Cowboy Up!’ in January 2022. In my opinion, I found ‘Snowman’s Land’ more enjoyable than ‘Cowboy Up!’. 🙂
That might have to do with the fact that ‘Snowman’s Land’ is a Christmassy film and I was in the mood for Christmas at this point. There’s more focus on Tuffy and his interaction with his new snow mouse friend Larry, but I still found Tom and Jerry very enjoyable to check out in ‘Snowman’s Land’.
In the film, Jerry and Tuffy try to help Mrs. LePage and her small business when she’s in competition with Dr. Doublevay and his technologically-advanced business. Tom is Doublevay’s minion in the film and is often causing trouble for Jerry once he’s attacking his home or chasing him around in the film.
Tuffy, who is Jerry’s nephew, aspires to be a magician. Through the use of magic, Tuffy makes a snow mouse come to life and gives him the name of Larry. Larry becomes helpful in getting LePage’s business back on track, which happens to involve the selling of toy snow mouses. So coincidental. 😀
After LePage’s business problems are sorted, Jerry and Tuffy become concerned about Larry who’s slowly melting away. They rush him to the fabled Snowman’s Village and they get there via Jerry’s red porsche. Yeah, apparently, Jerry bought a little red porsche at some point in his life. Where and when, I’ve no idea.
The red porsche does get damaged in the process by Larry, which doesn’t make Jerry happy. 😀 Whilst journeying to the Snowman’s Village, the devious Dr. Doublevay and Tom follow them. Doublevay has his own plans for Larry’s magic, although he doesn’t seem convinced that it is magic.
Like I said, there’s a lot of focus on Tuffy (voiced by Kath Soucie) and Larry (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson), especially when they’re interacting with each other and singing songs. Tom and Jerry, who are often silent characters, don’t seem to get much of a focus, despite playing a part in the film.
Now, with Tuffy speaking a lot of compared to Tom and Jerry, I’ve grown to get used to that, especially from seeing films like ‘Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’. Sometimes though, Tuffy doesn’t need to be in every ‘Tom and Jerry’ film.
I know that’s not often the case, but it does feel like he’s in every film and is taking a lot of the spotlight away from Tom and Jerry. Larry the snow mouse seems to fit that category too, especially when he’s being happy all the time, which can often get him, Jerry, Tuffy and even Tom into trouble.
The film also features Butch the Cat, Lightning and Meathead Cat, who’ve been in ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoons and films. I’m surprised Spike, Tyke and Droopy weren’t in ‘Snowman’s Land’, but I suppose it’s good to have three familiar cat faces in the film, although Tom does get beaten up a lot by them. 😀
There’s a blue-grey mule in the film called Floyd, who’s made to wear beige antlers on his head and a brown collar around his neck to be one of Santa’s reindeer. He helps Jerry, Tuffy and Larry out when they’re journeying to Snowman’s Village. Larry seems convinced that Floyd is a reindeer in this film. 😀
When we get to the Snowman’s Village, there are characters like the Snow Mayor and the Snow Cop who greet Jerry, Tuffy and Larry. I’m reminded of the Snowmen’s gathering place in both ‘The Snowman’ and ‘The Snowman and the Snowdog’. Could this be the same place in the ‘Tom and Jerry’ film? 🙂
There’s an action-packed climax by the film’s end where Jerry, Tuffy, Larry and the Snowmen are battling Dr. Doublevay and his robot drone. Thankfully, Tom switches sides and he helps the mice against Doublevay. Tom must’ve realised Doublevay didn’t treat him well and thought it’d be better to be with LePage’s mice. 😀
‘Tom and Jerry: Snowman’s Land’ has been an enjoyable Christmas cartoon film to check out on DVD. I’m glad I purchased it from Cheltenham last week and it’s nice to sit through it with some decent Tom and Jerry antics, especially when they’re helping Tuffy to get his snow mouse friend Larry to the Snowman’s Village.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
