Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s that time again for another Disney+ Roundup on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. Today, I’m sharing a couple of quick reviews on two movies I’ve seen on Disney+. The films themselves are comedies. One I found very enjoyable and plausible and the other was just bonkers crazy. Which film did I prefer?
The first of the two latest movies I’ve seen on Disney+ is ‘The Strongest Man in the World’. This is the third and final film of the ‘Dexter Riley’ series and is a follow-up to ‘The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes’. I don’t know why the second film called ‘Now You See Him, Now You Don’t’ isn’t on Disney+.
‘The Strongest Man in the World’ features the return of Kurt Russell as Dexter Riley. There’s Joe Flynn (who sadly died before the film’s released in 1975) as Dean Higgins, and Eve Arden as Aunt Harriet Crumply. There’s also Cesar Romero, who returns to play A. J. Arno and is the movie’s villain.
Apparently, and I’ve just realised this, as well as playing the Joker in the 1960s ‘Batman’ TV series, he was also in ‘Orchestra Wives’ with Glenn Miller. 😀 Phil Silvers, who many people know for playing Sgt. Bilko in his own TV series (I saw one of the episodes quite recently), plays Mr. Kirwood Krinkle. 🙂
I found Phil Silvers enjoyable and entertaining to watch in this film. ‘The Strongest Man in the World’ has Dexter gain superhuman strength, when he eats some cereal that has a new chemical accidentally mixed with it. The superhuman strength is only temporary for those that have it though.
I enjoyed watching ‘The Strongest Man in the World’ on Disney+. I wish there were more scenes of Kurt Russell as Dexter compared to his screen-time in ‘The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes’, but having been able to get into the characters in the previous film, I was able to enjoy the comedy throughout.
Speaking of which, the second film I saw recently on Disney+ is ‘Spy Hard’, a 1996 spy parody film, starring Leslie Nielsen as Dick Steele. If you’ve seen ‘The Naked Gun’ films (I’ve only seen the first one), the comedy that you’re expecting to see in ‘Spy Hard’ is going to match to ‘The Naked Gun’. 😀
‘Spy Hard’ is bonkers crazy! There’s comedy non-stop throughout the film. Sometimes, the comedy is funny, sometimes it’s stupid. I had to pause several times throughout the film to question the stupidity of certain scenes. I enjoyed the film in a weird way, but the comedy was too much at times.
Dick Steele (codename: Agent WD-40) is assigned by his Director to stop the evil General Rancor from the destroying the world (of course). Dick believed Rancor was dead and he teams up with Nicollete Sheridan as hot KGB agent Veronique Ukrinksy to find General Rancor and save their world.
The film’s cast also includes Charles Durning as the Director, Marcia Gay Harden as Miss Cheevus, Barry Bostwick as Norm Coleman, and Andy Griffiths as General Rancor. It was nice to see Elya Baskin (who played Mr. Ditkovitch in the original ‘Spider-Man’ movie trilogy) as Professor Ukrinsky. 🙂
Thankfully, he didn’t ask for ‘rent’. 😀 ‘Spy Hard’ is a crazy movie to watch on Disney+. There were times when the comedy was very funny, but very often, the film felt like a cartoon. This is especially when one of the characters pops her eyes out like cartoon character would. And she was a nun in this!
By the way, is that Thuy Trang from ‘Power Rangers’ on the bottom left in this movie?

It is Thuy Thang! 😀 Nice to see her, even though she had a non-speaking role. 🙂
‘The Strongest Man in the World’ is a better comedy film compared to ‘Spy Hard’. At least ‘The Strongest Man’ had a plot that plausible, especially when tackle the temporary superhuman strength power from eating cereal, compared to the non-stop comedy that went on throughout ‘Spy Hard’. 🙂
Stay tuned for another Disney+ Roundup on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ soon. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

Great review. Did you Kurt Russell was in more Disney movies then any other person. Walt Disney last words were Kurt Russell’s name. I saw him asked about that in a interview once. He was as baffled as everyone one else. As far as he knew he was even up for anything at the time.

Thanks Zack,
Yes, I’ve noticed that Kurt Russell has done quite a number of Disney movies in his career. He even voiced grown-up Copper in ‘The Fox and the Hound’. Interesting that Walt Disney’s last words were Kurt Russell’s name. Clearly he saw talent in him. I’ve certainly enjoyed Kurt Russell in ‘Sky High’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2’.
Many thank for your comments.

Thanks Zack,
It’s a shame they haven’t done a ‘Sky High 2’ as I was hoping they would do a sequel to that film.

Hi Zack,
Yes, ‘Sky High’ is one of my favourite movies too. I recall wanting to watch the film a second time at the cinema in 2005 before getting the DVD of it in 2006.
I recall reading somewhere that Disney had planned to do a ‘Sky High 2’ (apparently it was called ‘Save U’ – meaning Save Univerisity), but for whatever reason it never materialised, which is a shame. I should do a blog post someday detailing what I would have done if I wrote a ‘Sky High 2’ movie. I’ve also been meaning to review the ‘Sky High’ junior novelization.
Many thanks,
Tim 🙂
