SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
For my birthday this year, I saw ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ at the cinema. This is the latest ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ film. It features the many GOTG characters that people have grown to love over the years. I enjoyed this film at the cinema and had a great time seeing it with my parents.
We had our meal at Frankie & Benny’s afterwards, and we all had lasagnes with side orders of chips. 😀 The Guardians of the Galaxy made their first ‘MCU’ appearance in their 2014 film. Over the years, they have had a second film, been in two ‘Avengers’ movies and were in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. 🙂
They’ve also had their Holiday Special on Disney+ last year. I’ve grown to like the Guardians of the Galaxy in their movies. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of them, but it’s clear there’s a passion to these movies among the cast and crew, and writer/director James Gunn does well in making these movies.
Apparently, this is the ‘final’ instalment of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film series. Whether it’s the last we’ll see of the Guardians of the Galaxy is left to be determined, especially as Peter Quill/Star-Lord will be making a return in a future ‘MCU’ film someday. What that film will be, I don’t know yet.
In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, the Guardians embark on a mission to save the life of their friend, Rocket the Racoon, who got injured after an attack at the Guardian’s HQ on Knowhere. The Guardians must also thwart the efforts of the High Evolutionary, who wants to build his ‘perfect’ world.
Throughout the film, we’re given flashbacks to Rocket’s life when he was a young racoon before he got badly-treated by the High Evolutionary. It was interesting to see the flashbacks to Rocket’s life, even if it was quite jarring in cutting back and forth from the present day scenes to the flashbacks. 😐
Chris Pratt returns as Peter Quill/Star-Lord. There’s also Zoe Saldaña as Gamora. Yeah, just to clear the confusion, this happens to be the Gamora from ‘Avengers: Endgame’, who has now joined the Ravagers. How come this Gamora is in the present when she should have been put back in the past?
And I know some of you are going to say “That’s not how time-travel works” like some of the characters said it in that film. But what I say to that is, the time-travel stuff that happened in ‘Endgame’ is badly-handled. I rely more on how the time-travel works in ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Back to the Future’. 🙂
Although, as I think about it, did history change for the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield eras of ‘Spider-Man’ when the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman, the Lizard and Electro were sent back to their universes after being cured in ‘No Way Home’? It’s something I’d like to find out in say a ‘Spider-Man 4’ and an ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’.
Where was I? Oh yes, well, since this is the Gamora from ‘Endgame’, she has no recollection of ever having fallen in love with Peter Quill at all. Peter tries to get through to Gamora to see reason at times, but she just tells him to back off. In fact, Gamora is quite often a bad-tempered person in this film.
Actually, most of the Guardian characters are bad-tempered when working as a team. It’s one of the reasons why I’m not a huge fan of the GOTG. Their bad-tempered attitudes often rub me the wrong way, as they should be working together as a team, even if some moments between them are funny.
There’s Dave Bautista as Drax (who I found funny as always), Karen Gillan (always Amy Pond from ‘Doctor Who’ for me 😀 ) as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot (who gets to say “I love you, guys” in this film 😀 ) and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. There’s also Sean Gunn as Kraglin.
Will Poulter (who played Eustace in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ film) plays a fire-boy called Adam Warlock in the film. Chukwudi Iwuji plays the film’s villain, the High Evolutionary, who turns out to be an atheist. I did feel the actor who played the character gave an over-the-top performance. 😀
The film features Lylla, a talking otter who became a love interest for Rocket in his young life. She’s voiced by Linda Cardellini (who usually plays Laura Barton, Clint Barton/Hawkeye’s wife in the ‘MCU’). There’s Nathan Fillion as Master Karja and Sylvester Stallone returns as Stakar Ogord.
I hope Sylvester Stallone got paid well to appear in these ‘GOTG’ movies, since, like the second film, he only has like two scenes in this film. I was expecting him to have more screen-time in the third film. Is Sylvester Stallone going to get his own ‘Ravagers’ series as Stakar Ogord to be shown on Disney+? 😐
Elizabeth Debicki returns to play Ayesha, the golden High Priestess and leader of the Sovereign from the second film. There’s Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, a high-ranking Ravager, Howard the Duck, voiced by Seth Green, and there’s Cosmo the dog, voiced by Maria Bakalova, who turns out to be the true hero and ‘a good dog’ in the third ‘Guardians’ film. 😀
Michael Rooker also makes a brief appearance as Yondu Udonta, appearing to Kraglin when he’s about to use his whistle-blowing arrow to save the Knowhere planet. There’s also Daniela Melchior as Ura, the red-skinned receptionist at Orgocorp, whom Peter Quill tries to charm before Gamora points a gun at her. There’s Miriam Shor as Recorder Vim and Nico Santos as Recorder Theel.
Overall, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ has been a fun film to check out at the cinema. I’m sure I’ll be revisiting the film someday to give an in-depth analysis and evaluation on what works and what doesn’t work for me about this film. There’s certainly a lot to take in concerning the story and its characters featured.
I can’t say the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films are exactly my cup of tea, but they’ve been fun to watch. If the third ‘GOTG’ film turns out to be the final one in the ‘MCU’, then I can say it’s a decent one to end the ‘GOTG’ film series on. Also, there’s no getting away from the fact that the special CGI effects in this film are impressive. 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

Excellent review Tim, this was a satisfying payoff for the most part but I agree Gamora in this film was unlikeable, I get the reasoning but I felt little development to her character.
Rockets backstory was heartbreaking this had me tearing up it was so well done, how can a CGI Racoon make me cry but human characters don’t?
Sylvester Stallone my action icon if you never watched the Rocky films I highly recommend you check them out they are amazing uplifting boxing dramas with great characters.

Hi Simon,
Good to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed my review on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’. Yeah, Gamora was unlikeable in this film, wasn’t she? I thought her journey would have been to return to the Guardians and not be with the Ravagers at the end. Only time will tell as to whether we’ll see her and the Guardians again in a future ‘Avengers’ movie or something. I know Peter Quill/Star-Lord is due to return.
Yeah, Rocket’s backstory was very compelling and it’s shame how his life turned out with being mistreated and seemingly losing the love of his life. I’m glad a CGI Racoon made you cry compared to a human character. 🙂
Thanks for recommending the ‘Rocky’ movies. I’ve seen Sylvester Stallone briefly in one of the ‘Rocky’ movies on TV, but apart from that, I’ve seen him in the ‘GOTG’ movies, ‘Spy Kids 3D’ and an episode of ‘The Muppet Show’. I’ve enjoyed them in those.
Many thanks for your comments.
Tim 🙂
