Day 2 – ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2019

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s Day 2 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2019.

It’s time to talk about a ‘Doctor Who’ companion who travelled with two Doctors in the 1980s.

Tim Bradley with Bonnie Langford at the ‘Bournemouth Film and Comic Con 2015’, August 2015

I met Bonnie Langford at the ‘Bournemouth Film & Comic Con’ in August 2015. I had a great time seeing Bonnie and chatting to her at the event. She was very friendly to me. I’m happy she signed my CD cover of ‘The Juggernauts’ starring her as Mel; Colin Baker as the Doctor and Terry Molloy as Davros.

In ‘Doctor Who’ circles, Bonnie Langford is well-known for playing Melanie Bush, companion to Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy’s Doctors in TV and audio. She’s also a professional stage performer and dancer. She’s done stage show tours for the well-acclaimed ’42nd Street’ in the 1980s as well as from 2018 to 2019.

Bonnie also returned to TV in ‘EastEnders’ from 2015 to 2018. I had the opportunity of seeing Bonnie in an episode of ‘EastEnders’ at the same time I saw her in Bournemouth. I’ve only met Bonnie at one convention so far. I hope I’ll get to meet her again. The time I saw her in Bournemouth was a happy one.

Mel is a ‘Doctor Who’ companion who hasn’t had a fair treatment in terms of developing her character in the TV series since she tended to scream a lot. Thankfully the Big Finish audios have rectified that in enhancing Mel’s character. She doesn’t scream so much and is a better companion on audio than on TV.

I’m glad the Big Finish audios have allowed Bonnie Langford to develop Mel’s character. As well as ‘The Juggernauts’, I’ve enjoyed Bonnie as Mel in stories like ‘We Are The Daleks’ and ‘A Life of Crime’. I’m thankful I’ve met Bonnie at a convention and I’m happy she turned out to be friendly when I met her.

Thanks for reading!

Check out what Day 2 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendars for 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 were about!

Bye for now!

Tim. 🙂
