‘Possession’ (TV)

‘POSSESSION’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a fascinating episode in Season 1 of ‘Beast Wars’. 🙂 This is one of the episodes I didn’t see as a kid on GMTV when growing up in the 1990s. I saw this episode in the ‘Beast Wars’ 15th anniversary DVD box set back in 2011. I enjoyed seeing it for the first time then.

In this episode, Waspinator gets taken over by the spark of Starscream. For those of you who don’t know, Starscream was a Decepticon in the original ‘Transformers’ Generation 1 TV series. Yes! This is the very first time a ‘Transformers’ G1 character/reference is made.

Way before ‘The Agenda’ happened in Season 2, we have a guest appearance of a Decepticon character and one of the famous ones, since Starscream is regarded as always betraying Megatron in the original ‘Transformers’ G1 series. I knew what was going on.

I’d seen episodes of the original ‘Transformers’ G1 series and I saw the 1986 ‘Transformers’ movie to understand some of the lore featured in ‘Possession’, especially concerning Starscream as well as references to Unicron and Galvatron. It was fascinating to see here.

Mind you, I’m disappointed that Starscream didn’t actually appear in the episode, as it’s just his spark that somehow takes possession of Waspinator in the Predacons’ base. I also don’t quite understand why it had to be Waspinator instead of Terrorsaur for this episode.

I mean, Doug Parker who voices Terrorsaur in the series is voicing Starscream in the episode when taking over Waspinator. Wouldn’t it have been better for Starscream to possess Terrorsaur instead, since Terrorsaur does tend to betray his Megatron at times. 😐

Anyway, in the episode, the Predacons utilise Starscream’s power and tactical knowledge to take over the Maximals’ base. Fortunately, Optimus Primal and his Maximals find a way to outwit Starscream and the Predacons, and Starscream is expelled from Waspinator. 🙂

Waspinator is back to normal, and the episode concludes with Starscream’s spark leaving Earth, vowing revenge on those fighting in the Beast Wars. Sadly, there’s no follow-up episode to this one, which is a shame. What ever happened to Starscream after this episode?

‘Possession’ rating – 8/10
