‘FERAL SCREAM’

‘Feral Scream’ is a two-part story. It’s the first of 2 two-part stories in Season 3 of ‘Beast Wars’. This is arguably a homage to classic horror stories like ‘Frankenstein’ as well as the Werewolf story, especially when it focuses on Cheetor, who gets a new Transmetal II body.
In ‘Part 1’, Megatron and Waspinator acquire a stasis pod, which has a blank protoform. Megatron uses Rampage’s spark to give the protofrom life. Thus, a new evil Transmetal II version of Dinobot is born to serve the Predacons. This isn’t the same Dinobot, by the way.
This isn’t the Dinobot who got killed off in ‘Code of Hero’. This happens to be a clone of Dinobot with its Transmetal II form. Megatron has created a clone of Dinobot before in the Season 1 episode ‘Double Dinobot’, although this time, the new Dinobot II can transform.
The Transmetal II Dinobot is voiced by Scott McNeil, who voiced the original Dinobot. The scene of Dinobot II’s creation is a homage to the ‘Frankenstein’ movies with the lighting storm, Megatron as the evil scientist, Waspinator as Igor and Dinobot II as the monster. 🙂
Megatron had previously used Transmetal II technology for the Cyber-Raptors in ‘Cutting Edge’, and he also uses a Transmetal driver device to make it possible to have a Transmetal II Dinobot. Mind you, it’s never explained how Megatron obtained that device.
When Cheetor and Depth Charge try to stop Megatron with what he’s doing, Cheetor, unfortunately, gets caught in the electrical current of the machine that Dinobot II came out of. He gets critically injured and causes a huge explosion across the mountainside. 😐
Presumed dead, Cheetor struggles to return to the Maximals’ base before he finds himself changing into a feral monster that scares both the Maximals and the Predacons. The Predacons are attacked by Cheetor as the feral creature whilst holding Depth Charge hostage.
A sense of a mystery is created regarding what the feral creature that attacks the Predacons is, especially when Optimus Primal sees him in the shadows. Back at the Maximals’ base, Optimus and Rhinox see Cheetor return. He’s in a bad state and collapses to the ground.
In ‘Part 2’, Cheetor rests in his quarters, but he doesn’t use the CR chamber to fully recover. As he sleeps, he has a nightmare where Rhinox, Rattrap, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt taunt him. 😐 He wakes up, only to end up changing into that feral creature again.
It was quite tense and ‘on the edge of your seat’ when Rattrap went to find out what was going on and Cheetor as the feral creature burst out through his quarters. Interesting that Rattrap didn’t ‘put two and two together’ that Cheetor was the feral creature all this time.
As soon as Cheetor’s true nature is discovered and it’s established that he’s now a Transmetal II, Megatron sends Dinobot II and Waspinator to ‘bring him in’. Cheetor, as the feral creature, runs out into the night, only to end up changing back to his previous self. 😐
Once back in his previous Transmetal self, Cheetor finds himself fully repaired, which has him baffled. He then gets the nightmare visions again, and he realises that they actually happened and weren’t a dream. Elsewhere, the Maximals struggle to locate Cheetor. 😐
Optimus summons Depth Charge to ask him what happened. There’s resistance at first, but Depth Charge soon relays what he saw when Cheetor had his accident. Later, as Optimus, Rattrap and Silverbolt are about to search for Cheetor again, before he suddenly appears.
When asked what happened and where he’s been, Cheetor covers his tracks by saying he dealt with the feral creature. Optimus is unconvinced and suggests they go and search for the creature’s ‘remains’. It’s intriguing Optimus knew that Cheetor was hiding something.
Just as Cheetor is about to share what happened, Optimus is soon attacked by Transmetal II Dinobot. It’s then Cheetor becomes his new Transmetal II self permanently and ends up fighting Dinobot II to save Optimus. 🙂 They fight in beast mode for quite a bit.
Dinobot II retreats, but Cheetor struggles to break out of his feral state when in beast mode. Optimus helps Cheetor to break out of it, and he’s soon able to transform into a robot once more. 🙂 Thus, the curse is broken and Cheetor is alive and well in his new body.
