‘Cutting Edge’ (TV)

‘CUTTING EDGE’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

The first time I saw this ‘Beast Wars’ episode was on the official Volume 1 VHS release in the UK, which contained episodes of Season 3. I never saw Season 3 of ‘Beast Wars’ on GMTV, so it was a treat to check out these episodes and see them uncut compared to TV.

In this episode, Megatron has created a new fleet of Cyber-Raptors. He has them sent in to attack a tribe of proto-humans, who were introduced in ‘Code of Hero’. As I’ve established in my review for that episode, I’m not a fan of the early humans in this series.

We’re introduced to two children – a girl called Una and a boy named Chak. When attacked by the Cyber-Raptors, the children are saved by Optimus Primal and Silverbolt. They’re brought back to the Maximals’ base before helping them to return to their tribe. 🙂

Optimus orders Blackarachnia and Cheetor to escort and protect Una and Chak back to their tribe before more Cyber-Raptors attack. This is where we’re given a chance to explore more of Blackarachnia and Cheetor as characters and the relationship they have.

Cheetor clearly has a crush on Blackarachnia, and Blackarachnia’s not keen when interacting with the children, especially Una. Silverbolt notices Cheetor’s attraction to Blackarachnia and is quickly jealous. I found Silverbolt’s territorial attitude quite annoying.

On their journey, Blackarachnia and Cheetor are attacked by Cyber-Raptors whilst protecting the children. Optimus and Silverbolt fly out from the Maximals’ base to help Blackarachnia and Cheetor when they’re attacked by Cyber-Raptors and the Predacons.

The Predacons accompanying the Cyber-Raptors include Waspinator and Tarantulas. Megatron, Inferno, Quickstrike and Rampage meanwhile attack the Maximals’ base with Rhinox and Rattrap fighting back. Depth Charge soon turns up to help Rhinox and Rattrap.

The Maximals’ fighting the Cyber-Raptors are aided by Una and Chak’s father, who suddenly appears and uses his hammer-like weapon to smash a Cyber-Raptor’s control unit, causing it to go berserk and blow-up. Thus, the Maximals destroy the Cyber-Raptors!

‘Cutting Edge’ rating – 9/10
