‘EQUAL MEASURES’

For reasons unknown to me, GMTV decided to skip this ‘Beast Wars’ episode when they were showing them over the Bank Holidays in the UK in 1998. ‘Equal Measures’ wasn’t the next ‘Beast Wars’ episode I saw after ‘The Web’. The next one was ‘Chain of Command’. 🙂

I enjoyed ‘Equal Measures’ when I eventually saw it on ‘The Beginning’, Volume 1 VHS release. This is another Cheetor-focused episode. In the episode, the Maximals are about to place survey posts on the planet that they’re on to act as a Predacon detection system.

Cheetor is keen to set up the survey posts, despite there being a dangerous Energon storm occurring. Optimus Primal says ‘no’, but Dinobot manipulates Cheetor into doing so. Disobeying direct orders, Cheetor leave the Maximals’ base to set up the survey posts.

In the process, a lightning bolt strikes one of the posts, which in turns creates a teleportation route between the Predacons’ and Maximals’ bases. Not sure how that’s meant to work, but I did suspend my sense of disbelief when I saw this as a young kid. 😀

Cheetor ends up inside the Predacons’ base and gets into a fight with Terrorsaur who’s already there. It was fun to see Cheetor and Terrorsaur battling each other, especially on those hover-platforms. Fortunately, Cheetor defeats Terrorsaur by shifting into beast mode.

Terrorsaur ends up inside the Maximals’ base where he’s greeted by Dinobot. It was fascinating to see Dinobot making a temporary alliance with Terrorsaur, only so he can get information out of him about how the teleportation system between the bases works.

Dinobot betrays Terrorsaur by sending him into the…waste disposal unit, I think it is, before flushing him out. Dinobot also persuades Optimus to send a bomb into the Predacons’ base via the teleportation system. It works by using the bases’ communication consoles.

Cheetor has a ‘fun’ time avoiding being shot at by Waspinator and Scorponok, who pursue him around the Predacons’ base. Thankfully, Cheetor escapes the clutches of the Predacons and saves them from destruction once the bomb is inside the Predacons’ base. 🙂
