‘DOUBLE DINOBOT’
Please feel free to comment on my review.
I saw this episode twice on TV over two Christmas periods. I saw ‘Double Dinobot’ as the second of two episodes on Monday the 28th of December 1998 (the first episode being ‘Dark Designs’). I later saw a repeat of ‘Double Dinobot’ for Christmas in December 1999.
In the episode, Megatron creates an evil clone of Dinobot to infiltrate the Maximals’ base. It’s very different compared to the actual Dinobot. As well as being fiercely loyal to Megatron, the clone Dinobot doesn’t have the ability to transform and is stuck as a raptor.
In hindsight, this is probably a bad move on Megatron’s part. Maybe giving him the ability to transform would have helped to avoid suspicion, especially from Maximals like Rattrap. Perhaps Megatron was rushing things with putting the Dinobot clone together. 😐
The real Dinobot is attacked by Terrorsaur in order to be gotten rid of whilst the clone Dinobot runs amok among the Maximals at their base. It was fun to see the real Dinobot fighting against Terrorsaur, although it’s unfortunate he got caved in inside a mountain. 😐
With the clone Dinobot, it’s clear that he’s a liar when he tries to get all the Maximals, including Optimus Primal and Rattrap, out of the base to shut down Sentinel, the base’s defence grid for Megatron. He almost sends Rattrap to his death across an open lava flow.
He manages to get Optimus to leave the base when he makes out he and Rattrap were ambushed, and Rattrap is ‘trapped’. Once Optimus has left, Dinobot sets out to disable Sentinel. It turns out not to be easy, as Dinobot gets denied access with hilarious results.
Eventually, the two Dinobots meet each other inside the Maximals’ base. I found it funny when the two Dinobots met each other and they soon have an all-out fight. Initially, I was confused as to which Dinobot got knocked out and who actually won the fight in the base.
But then when Megatron arrives, it turns out the Dinobot outwitted the clone Dinobot, as he prevents the Predacon leader from entering the Maximals’ base by switching on Sentinel. It was disturbing when it was revealed Dinobot ate his clone self in the episode. 😀
‘Double Dinobot’ rating – 9/10
