‘CODE OF HERO’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

‘Code of Hero’ is a very significant episode in the ‘Beast Wars’ TV series. It features the triumphant death and exit of Dinobot, who joined the Maximals at the beginning of the series. Despite being a Predacon, he becomes a hero by saving a valley of human beings.

The first time I saw this ‘Beast Wars’ episode was on Monday in the October half-term week of 1999 via GMTV. I was in tears from watching this episode, especially as it depicted Dinobot’s spark (the Transformers’ equivalent of a heart) ascending into heaven, I believe.

In the episode, Dinobot is challenged by Rattrap on his allegiance to the Maximals, especially since he betrayed them in ‘Maximal, No More’. So, Dinobot sets off to find Megatron in order to uncover what his latest scheme is and how it could endanger reality.

Meanwhile, Megatron and Rampage discover a valley that contains early anthropoid humans (Neanderthals). I’m not a fan of the proto-humans featured in the ‘Beast Wars’ TV series, especially when, to me, they don’t talk and they’re more like apes than humans.

With the Golden Disk he stole from Cybertron, Megatron decides to destroy the valley and everything in it to prevent humanity from existing. This is so that the wars between the Autobots and the Decepticons in the Generation 1 ‘Transformers’ TV series never happen.

As much as I appreciate Megatron attempting to destroy humanity so that the events of the G1 ‘Transformers’ TV series never happen, how come it’s this specific valley where humanity originated? Due to my Christian upbringing, I find this a rather far-fetched idea.

Realising that Megatron’s powers will be limitless if he isn’t stopped, Dinobot decides to take on the Predacons and stop them from destroying the valley. It was so intense to see Dinobot being scarred from left to right whilst he fights against the Predacons in the valley.

Despite Megatron in his Transmetal form, Dinobot is still able to defeat him and destroy the Golden Disk. Unfortunately, the battle scars are deep and Dinobot ends up dying with the Maximals standing over him. Seeing Dinobot’s funeral was also upsetting for me to watch. 😦

‘Code of Hero’ rating – 9/10
