‘CALL OF THE WILD’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a ‘Beast Wars’ episode I didn’t see on GMTV when I was a kid in the 1990s. I saw this ‘Beast Wars’ episode for the first time on ‘The Beginning’, Volume 3 VHS. I found it an enjoyable episode, especially as the Maximals faced a challenge in their beast modes.

In the episode, the Predacons attack the Maximals’ base at night. The Predacons steal the rectifier coil for the Maximal ship, which is a device used to shield our heroes from Energon. The Maximals are forced to stay in beast mode to prevent Energon field buildup.

For two days, the Maximals, including Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Rhinox, Dinobot and Rattrap get taken over by their animal personas. At night, they exit the Maximals’ base and become easy targets for a Predacon assault, led by Megatron, when they go out on a hunt.

It was amusing to see Megatron being carried around in a chair by Scorponok and Tarantulas whilst Blackarachnia is beating a drum in front of the hunting party. Terrorsaur, Waspinator and Inferno are part of the hunt too, leaving the Predacons’ base unoccupied.

I bring this up because Tigatron and Airazor find an opportunity to save their Maximal comrades as well as recover the rectifier coil from the Predacons’ base. Tigatron goes out to gather the Maximals out in the jungle whilst Airazor flies over to the Predacons’ base. 🙂

It was interesting to see Tigatron helping the Maximals by teaching them on how to accept both beast and robot forms. Apparently, there’s been a programming block in Optimus, Cheetor, Rhinox, Dinobot and Rattrap that has separated their beast and robot personas apart.

Airazor manages to get inside the Predacons’ base quite easily, managing to destroy the automated defences in one swoop. She also manages to take out a defence weapon inside the base when she collects the rectifier coil. She’s a really cool Maximal, isn’t she? 🙂

Thankfully, the Maximals overcomes their beast personas, and they manage to take out Megatron and the Predacons during their hunt. Megatron orders a retreat (No surprise there 😀 ) and the Maximals seem happy about embracing both their beast and robot forms.

‘Call of the Wild’ rating – 9/10
