‘WHEN IT RAINS…’ (DS9)
Please feel free to comment on my review.

In the fifth episode of the ‘final chapter’ story arc of the ‘DS9’ series, which happens to be directed by Michael Dorn who plays Worf, Starfleet, the Klingon and the Romulans discuss solving a problem.
Since the Dominion has deployed a new weapon created by the Breen that can disable starships with one shot, only Klingon ships can be made resistant against. Starfleet and Romulan ships aren’t lucky.
The defence of the Alpha Quadrant is in the Klingons’ hands for the time being. A solution needs to be found on how Starfleet and Romulan ships can be defended against the Dominion like the Klingons. 😐
Sisko also finds a way to help aid the Cardassian Damar’s revolt against the Dominion. He sends Kira, a veteran of the Bajoran resistance against the Cardassian occupation, to help Damar’s group in this.
Kira is unhappy and reluctant about this, but she’s clearly the only one who can teach the Cardassians the techniques of guerrilla warfare. She is soon to be accompanied by Odo and Garak. 🙂
Andrew Robinson seems more understanding than any other Cardassian when he, Kira and Odo meet Damar’s group to form strategies on how to overthrow the Dominion. It’s an uneasy alliance. 🙁
Sisko also gives Kira a Starfleet commission to lend her more authority in anticipating the Cardassians’ objections to being advised by a former Bajoran terrorist. Kira looks good in the uniform.
Instead of being Colonel Kira, she’s referred to as Commander Kira. I wondered how Kira would look in a Starfleet uniform as opposed to the standard red Bajoran outfit she’s been wearing in the series.
Once Kira, Odo and Garak arrive at Damar’s camp, Damar’s men object to her presence. They also protest to the idea that the Cardassians must be willing to attack fellow Cardassians in their attacks.
This is in spite of the fact that certain Cardassians may be collaborators with the Dominion. Kira can often be easily frustrated and angry with these Cardassians, but Odo is there to keep Kira in check. 🙂
Casey Biggs as Damar meanwhile is willing to take Kira’s advice seriously. There’s still tension between Damar and Kira, especially in terms of their past relationship during the events of Season 6.
Back on DS9, Robert O’Reilly as Klingon Chancellor Gowron comes to DS9 to honour J. G. Hertzler as General Martok. He inducts him into the Order of Kahless, but he soon assumes command of his fleet. 🙁
Martok is dismayed by Gowron taking over the fleet, but is willing to take a backseat. Gowron soon outlines his plan for a new offensive into Dominion territory and seize glory for the Klingon Empire. 🙁
Martok objects to this, saying that the Klingons are badly outnumbered by Dominion forces. Gowron ignores him however. Where will this storyline featuring Martok, Worf and Gowron go from here then? 😐
Meanwhile, Bashir examines a tissue sample from Odo. Just before Ezri tells him how she feels about him, Bashir discovers that Odo has been infected with the same disease that’s plagued the Founders.
Bashir warns Odo before he, Kira and Garak meet up with Damar’s group and tells him he’s do everything he can to cure him. But Bashir isn’t able to gain Odo’s full medical records from Starfleet.
In his conversations with Starfleet bureaucrats, Bashir believes that Starfleet is trying to hide something. They don’t want Bashir to find a cure for Odo as the Founders might get wind about it. 😐
Bashir and O’Brien also suspect that Section 31, Starfleet’s secretive black ops division might have deliberately infected Odo with the virus so that he can transmit it to the Founders. No evidence yet.
Elsewhere on Bajor, Louise Fletcher as Kai Winn continues to study the forbidden text of the Kosst Amojan in order to learn how to release the Pah-wraiths. She also comes to truly despise Gul Dukat.
Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat tries to sneak a look into the book. The Pah-wraiths punish him by blinding him. Very soon, Winn throws Dukat out to live as a blind beggar before his sight is restored.
I feel Winn is really cruel to Dukat in this manner. Dukat certainly has done bad things in the past with the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, but it doesn’t make Winn better than he is in the episode. 🙁
