Tasq and British Prime Ministers with the Sixth Doctor and Peri

‘Time Wake’ is the sixth and final story in the ‘Time Wake & Other Stories’ audio collection. It’s taken from the 1986 ‘Doctor Who Annual’ and it features the Sixth Doctor and Peri. The story is read by Colin Baker. ‘Time Wake’ is a notable story for featuring every British Prime Minister right up to 1986.

This includes Robert Walpole, Pitt the Younger, Benjamin Disraeli, William Ewart Gladstone, David Lloyd George, Winston Churchill, Harold Wilson and Margaret Thatcher. I can imagine what this story would have been like if recent Prime Ministers like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss also appeared in this story. 🙂

Mind you, the British Prime Ministers featured in this story aren’t really the real British Prime Ministers. They’re actually androids, used in a dastardly plan by a being called Tasq, who wants to get off the planet Earth. There’s also some jumping around from time zones including 1986 and 1720. 😀

I enjoyed Colin Baker’s reading of the story. I enjoyed his take of Peri as the Sixth Doctor’s companion when he put on an American accent. There’s a scene where the Sixth Doctor and Peri venture into the London sewers, just like when they ventured into the London sewers in ‘Attack of the Cybermen’.

There’s a moment where the Sixth Doctor gets to rub his cat badge for good luck, which is something he did at times in the TV series. It’s interesting when Peri suggests that Tasq’s ship could have a functioning chameleon circuit, although I don’t think Tasq is on that same level as the Time Lords. 😐

‘Time Wake & Other Stories’ has been an enjoyable collection of audio stories from the pages of the ‘Doctor Who Annuals’ to check out. I can’t say they’re a great collection and I’ve enjoyed the second half more than the first half of the collection, but I’m pleased I’ve been able to check out the stories.

I’m pleased I was able to revisit ‘Night Flight to Nowhere’ on audio, and it was nice to check out ‘Famine on Planet X’ and ‘Time Wake’ as stories. The readers for the stories including Dan Starkey, Anneke Wills, Jon Culshaw, Louise Jameson, Geoffrey Beevers and Colin Baker have also been great.
