Ossu-male becomes Ossu-hir with Goth, the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe

This story called ‘War Crimes’ is by Simon Bucher-Jones. It features the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe. The story takes place during the final episode of ‘The War Games’. I’ve had the Second Doctor TARDIS team’s story in ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ occur during the final episode of ‘The War Games’. 🙂

I must admit, I found ‘War Crimes’ rather dull when I read it. The focus is on the Ulk-Ra, an alien race that presumably were removed from their planet to be tested by the War Lords for possible use in their War Games. Admittedly, I found it an intriguing angle on the War Lords by Simon Bucher-Jones.

Unfortunately, there’s not enough of the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe featured in this story for me to be interested. A lot of the story is taken from the point of view of Ossu, an Ulk-Ra warrior who was abducted by the War Lords. He soon decides to become female once he’s returned to his planet.

Had the story featured more of the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe as characters from beginning to end, I would’ve appreciated it more. Presumably, this story occurs during the Second Doctor team’s plight from the Time Lords after fleeing from the War Lords’ planet where the War Games occurred.

An intriguing aspect of this story is that Goth, the Time Lord character from ‘The Deadly Assassin’, is in it. It’s implied Bernard Horsfall’s character in ‘The War Games’ is Goth. It makes sense, especially as David Maloney was the director on both ‘The War Games’ and ‘The Deadly Assassin’ in the classic TV series.

‘War Crimes’ rating – 3/10
