Visiting Planet X and meeting Ogg with the Fourth Doctor and Leela

‘Famine on Planet X’ was featured in the 1979 ‘Doctor Who Annual’ and it features the Fourth Doctor and Leela. The audiobook version of this story is read by Louise Jameson and Dan Starkey. Dan Starkey is mainly the voice of the Fourth Doctor, and he’s also the Fourth Doctor voice of Ogg. 🙂

I suppose it makes sense for Dan Starkey to be the voice of the Fourth Doctor in the audiobook version of this annual story, since he read the audiobook for ‘Doctor Who and the Krikkitmen’. Mind you, I’m certain Louise Jameson would have provided Tom Baker’s voice just as well as Dan Starkey.

Actually, ‘Famine on Planet X’ is a very decent story from the 1979 ‘Doctor Who Annual’. It has the Doctor and Leela visiting a planet called Planet X, where there seems to be a famine going on. They meet Ogg, one of the inhabitants of the planet, who’s able to replicate the Doctor and Leela’s voices.

This is when they’re trying to communicate with him. I did wonder if this was going to be a case similar to the Midnight entity replicating the Tenth Doctor’s voice in ‘Midnight’. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case. It actually transpires that Ogg is a benevolent alien the Doctor and Leela encounter here.

I enjoyed Louise Jameson’s reading of the story and it was fun that the story switched between her and Dan Starkey’s voices, in a similar style to the ‘Companion Chronicle’ stories. I also liked it when the story had a leisurely pace. Everything seemed to be resolved satisfactory and it didn’t end abruptly.
