Sam Wentworth and the First Doctor

This story is by Dave Hoskin and it features the First Doctor. I found this a fascinating tale to check out in the ‘Short Trips: Transmissions’ collection. It’s about a man called Sam Wentworth, who receives some letters from a girl called Natalie and he notices some odd iNtRUsioNs on the letters. 😐

Initially, I thought Sam Wentworth was Natalie Bryce’s father, as she seemed to be sending her letters to her father in Pentridge Prison. But it turns out not to be the case, as Sam is actually a worker at the Dead Letter Office. He is meant to collect letters of the dead before he discards them.

But he becomes interested in Natalie’s letters and he keeps them for himself so that he can read them. Something that he shouldn’t really be doing. When he notices the odd iNtRUsioNs at the bottom of the letters, he becomes curious and decides to unravel what the iNtRUsioNs are all about.

The First Doctor appears mysteriously throughout the story, since he seems to know what’s going on and he keeps popping up at points in Sam’s life. I wish the Doctor appeared more in ‘iNtRUsioNs’ and had more interaction with Sam in order to make his significance in the short tale more prominent. 😦

I found the story’s conclusion very unsatisfying, especially since it felt rushed and I didn’t have time to process what happened in the end. The ending is also unmemorable. There is a point where Sam gets to meet Natalie in the story, but I’m not sure if anything came from that and it all was so muddled.
