‘THE CURSE OF THE SADHU’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a very amusing ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’ episode, especially when the Sgt-Major seems to get cursed by a holy man called the Sadhu, played by Minoo Golvala. It happens when the Sgt-Major tempts the wrath of the gods by ejecting the holy man from the parade guard. This is a bad mistake.
The Sgt-Major also bangs in the nails of the Sadhu’s bed of nails with a hammer. The Sadhu puts a curse on the Sgt-Major, saying that he will not sleep without pain. The Concert Party take advantage of this by putting itching powder in his bed. It was funny to see that happen in watching the episode.
But then, the Sgt-Major seems to really believe that he is cursed, as he goes about into a trance, thinking there are nails everywhere and he even acts like a monkey at one point in the episode. It was so funny to see the Sgt-Major acting monkey-like and being offered a banana by Mackintosh. 😀
Ranjit Nakara as a medical orderly helps the Concert Party out by giving a syringe of something to sedate the Sgt-Major to help him go to sleep. This works, as the Concert Party injects the syringe into the Sgt-Major’s bum. Yikes! I didn’t think that would happen with sticking a needle in someone’s bum. 😀
Next morning though, the Sgt-Major is still convinced he’s been cursed. The only way to lift the curse from him is to get another holy man to cancel it. It’s suggested the Sadhu that cursed him wasn’t that holy after all. The other holy men also want their payment to lift the ‘curse’ from the Sgt-Major.
The payment is quite high on the holy men’s parts. 😐 In the end, Gloria dresses up as a holy man and the Concert Party get the Sgt-Major to chant “Oh wata nass iam” to restore him back to normal. Thankfully, it all works out. The Concert Party also get the Sgt-Major to cancel a moonlight parade.
The episode ends rather strangely with Gloria seemingly cursed after playing a holy man. I’m not sure how that’s supposed to work, but it’s never explained as the end credits roll up by that point. I wonder if Gloria has to be de-cursed too and the Concert Party truly have to pay the holy men’s fees.
‘The Curse of the Sadhu’ is pretty amusing to watch, for the sake of seeing the Sgt-Major seemingly cursed and acting like a monkey whilst doing so. Rangi Ram’s explanations for what’s going on to the Concert Party are hilarious to watch, especially when he’s helping them out to calm the Sgt-Major down.
‘The Curse of the Sadhu’ rating – 8/10
