Quick Blu-ray Box Set Review – ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ (BBC TV series)

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

One of the Christmas presents I had in December 2025 was the brand-new Blu-ray box set of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series. I’ve greatly enjoyed revisiting ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series over the Christmas period leading into the New Year!

It’s been a long time since I did any ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ reviews on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. I reviewed the Disney/Fox film trilogy and the BBC TV series back in 2016. In 2017, I reviewed the entire book series over the Easter period, which I had great fun doing.

I was meaning to check out and do reviews on the ‘Focus on the Family’ radio series of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, but sadly, didn’t get around to it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do so once it comes to update my reviews on the BBC TV series based on its Blu-ray box set.

The aim I have in mind is to go through all ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ books, update my reviews on them, write brand-new reviews on the ‘Focus on the Family’ radio adaptations, and update my reviews on the BBC TV and Disney/Fox film adaptations accordingly.

It might take some time for me to get around to it, especially with updating my ‘Doctor Who’ reviews based on their Blu-ray box sets as well as perhaps Series 1 of ‘Blake’s 7’, but it’s something to look forward to, especially as I’ve enjoyed the BBC TV series recently.

The major highlight of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series Blu-ray box set is the brand-new documentary called ‘Return to Narnia’. This features in-depth behind-the-scenes making-of insights of the BBC TV series with brand-new cast and crew interviews.

It was lovely to see Richard Dempsey (Peter), Sophie Cook (Susan), Jonathan R. Scott (Edmund) and Sophie Wilcox (Lucy) reunited for ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ at where the Professor’s country house was filmed – Llanvihangel Court in Abergavenny.

It was also good to see other cast members interviewed, such as Barbara Kellerman (the White Witch), Kerry Shale (Mr. Beaver) and Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Beaver). Having seen Lesley Nicol in ‘Downton Abbey’, it was surreal seeing her being interviewed for BBC’s ‘Narnia’.

Moving onto ‘Prince Caspian’, I’m pleased Richard Dempsey, Sophie Cook, Jonathan R. Scott and Sophie Wilcox met up with Jean Marc Perret (Prince Caspian) at the filming location for Aslan’s How where they shared memories of making the two-part adventure.

Whilst I’m glad ‘Prince Caspian’ is given focus as a separate story from ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ in the second season of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series, I’m saddened Warwick Davis (Reepicheep) wasn’t interviewed for the special documentary.

Speaking of ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’, it was great to see Jonathan R. Scott and Sophie Aldred reunite with Samuel West (King Caspian). Having seen Samuel in the new ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ TV series lately, it was quite surreal to see him for BBC’s ‘Narnia’.

It’s nice that Samuel got to share his memories of working on ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’. David Thwaites (Eustace) is also interviewed for the documentary, though it’s a shame that he didn’t reunite with Jonathan, Sophie and Samuel at Plas Newydd in Wales.

Finally, we move on to ‘The Silver Chair’, and it was great to see David Thwaites reunited with Camilla Power (Jill) at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire. Camilla Power has done some Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’ over the years and she’s done an episode of ‘Torchwood’.

I’m saddened Tom Baker (Puddleglum) wasn’t interviewed for the ‘Return to Narnia’ documentary, as it would have been nice to hear his thoughts on being in ‘The Silver Chair’. I’m amazed that Lesley Nicol returned to play the Giant Queen in ‘The Silver Chair’. 😀

A thing that astounds me about ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series is some of the filming locations were in Wales. To think ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series was filmed in Wales, and I didn’t realise it when watching the series on DVD in 2003 and 2004.

Most of the special features from the DVD box set containing ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’, ‘Prince Caspian’, ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ and ‘The Silver Chair’ are transferred onto the Blu-ray box set, matching to the classic ‘Doctor Who’ Blu-ray box sets. 🙂

Apparently, from watching the ‘Return to Narnia’ Blu-ray making-of documentary, there were plans to do ‘The Last Battle’ as one of the TV adaptations of the BBC ‘Narnia’ TV series and there were plans to adapt ‘The Hobbit’ into a BBC TV series, but sadly they didn’t happen.

Overall, I enjoyed revisiting ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series on Blu-ray recently. It’s been nice to check out these TV adaptations of the classic stories by C.S. Lewis again and I greatly enjoyed checking out the ‘Return to Narnia’ Blu-ray making-of documentary.

Hopefully, I’ll find time to update my reviews on ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ BBC TV series along with my reviews on the books and the films, and do new reviews on the ‘Focus on the Family’ radio series accordingly. It should be exciting and worth looking forward to. 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂

From what I’ve seen, Tom Baker hasn’t done that many interviews even for Doctor Who DVD bonuses. I think some recent Doctor Who Blu-Ray editions have changed that. But the obvious fascination of what he has done outside of Doctor Who, his on-record best role of his life, can naturally make us want to hear what he has say about it. Thank you, Tim, for your review.
