It’s Day 19 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2025.

What has Henry done to upset Gordon in today’s ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ episode? 😐

‘WHISTLES AND SNEEZES’

‘Whistles and Sneezes’ is based on two stories from the sixth ‘Railway Series’ book ‘Henry the Green Engine’. This includes the third story ‘Gordon’s Whistle’ and the fifth and final story ‘Henry’s Sneeze’. The fourth story ‘Percy and the Trousers’ was skipped this season.

‘Percy and the Trousers’ was later adapted as ‘A Scarf for Percy’, the first episode of Season 3. In ‘Whistles and Sneezes’, we continue where we left off with Gordon being jealous about Henry having his new shape and being able to pull the Express better than him.

Gordon also complains about Henry whistling too much. Percy and Edward seem to like Henry’s whistling, but Gordon says, “It isn’t wrong, but we just don’t do it!” Those words haunt back at Gordon one day, when he’s pulling the Express and he can’t stop whistling.

Henry gets to enjoy teasing Gordon, especially when returning to the shed at night. In the ‘Henry’s Sneeze’ portion of the episode, Henry is pulling a passenger train and is soon struck by stones thrown by a few naughty schoolboys on a bridge. That’s so cruel of them.

Fortunately, Henry gets his own back when he builds up plenty of ashes in his smoke box. Henry pulls the passenger train and as soon as he’s about to go under the bridge where the boys are, he unleashes the ashes. The boys are covered in soot, which is quite amusing.
