Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Day 18 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2025.
Let’s go on a train ride at night with Henry in this ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’ episode! 🙂
‘THE FLYING KIPPER’
In this episode, Henry is told to pull a special goods train containing fish from the harbour on the Island of Sodor to the mainland. This train is called the Flying Kipper. Henry gets to pull the Flying Kipper early in the morning – which is dark. What could possibly go wrong? 😀
‘The Flying Kipper’ is based on the story of the same name from the sixth ‘Railway Series’ book ‘Henry the Green Engine’ – the second story, in fact. I enjoyed how this episode depicts Henry pulling the Flying Kipper, especially when his theme music accompanies it. 🙂
It reminds me of when my parents and I sometimes go early in the morning to do Christmas shopping at Asda and Tesco on Christmas Eve. The snow adds well to that scene when Henry is journeying in the dark. Apparently, winter has come again in the series.
We had winter in ‘Thomas, Terence and the Snow’, and now we have it again in ‘The Flying Kipper’. We still haven’t had the Christmas episode yet. 😀 Henry, unfortunately, has a collision with a goods train. The signal wasn’t set right when it permitted Henry to go past.
Despite Henry having his crash, the Fat Controller decides for him to go to Crewe to be refitted and given a new shape. Incidentally, I stopped off at Crewe railway station one time. Sometime later in the spring, I believe, Henry returns to Sodor and in his new shape.
Thanks for reading and watching!
Check out what Day 18 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendars for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 were about!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
