Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Day 17 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2025.
It’s time to have the first of three stories featuring Henry the Green Engine!
‘COAL’
I’m sharing with you this fixed version of the UK dub of the episode ‘Coal’ today. This is mainly because the official video of ‘Coal’ contains an error that really gets on my nerves whenever I see it. I’ll explain what I mean in a bit, but here’s a link to the official video of ‘Coal’.
‘Coal’ is based on the story of the same name from the sixth ‘Railway Series’ book called ‘Henry the Green Engine’. It was published as the first of five stories in that book. ‘Coal’ continues the story arc of Henry feeling unwell, as introduced in ‘Thomas and the Guard’. 🙂
Going back to the error in the official video of ‘Coal’, there’s a moment where Henry backs into a siding and his tender bumps a station building before he suddenly leaves the siding afterwards without any noise. 😐 Edward is also stationary when he whistles and puffs. 😐
This is a strange editing choice, as I recall from watching the VHS tape called ‘Coal and Other Stories’ that Henry’s tender didn’t bump into the station building and Edward moved off when whistling and puffing in order to take Henry’s train from him at the station.
As for the rest of the episode, it’s fine, as Henry gets new Welsh coal to help make him feel better. It works and Henry is able to pull trains very easily from a station. He even impresses Thomas, Annie and Clarabel, when they wait at a station before they see Henry leave.
Thanks for reading and watching!
Check out what Day 17 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendars for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 were about!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
