Ready for another episode of ‘Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends’?

‘THOMAS’ TRAIN’

‘Thomas’ Train’ is the fifth episode in Season 1 of ‘Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends’. It’s based on the story of the same name from the second ‘Railway Series’ book ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’, which was the second story straight after ‘Thomas and Gordon’, apparently.

I saw this episode on VHS straight after ‘Edward, Gordon and Henry’. It’s an episode that showcases Thomas’ eagerness to be more than a tank engine that prepares trains for big engines to take out on long journeys. It also illustrates his impatience when he’s too keen.

The episode starts with Thomas complaining to the other engines about why he can’t pull trains like they can. Then one night, Henry becomes ill with the workmen struggling to make him better. Next morning, Thomas gets Henry’s train ready at the railway station. 🙂

When Henry doesn’t show up, the Fat Controller suggests another engine to be found to pull the train, and it’s only Thomas who can do it. Thomas goes to the front of the train, but he isn’t coupled up and becomes too eager when going forward and leaving the train behind.

This episode forms part of the story arc where Thomas needs to learn to patience and not be too eager, as it could get him into trouble when making mistakes. He gets to pull the train as soon as he goes back for it, but is later mocked for his impatience by the other engines.
