Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
One of the TV shows that I’m very pleased to have shared on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ is the original BBC TV drama series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ made from 1977 to 1990. This is a BBC TV show that I loved watching on DVD and I’ve now seen all of the episodes. 🙂
The original ‘All Creatures’ BBC TV series stars Christopher Timothy as James Herriot, Robert Hardy as Siegfried Farnon and Peter Davison as Tristan Farnon. The show lasted for seven seasons and there are four Christmas Specials to enjoy from the original TV series.
I began sharing my reviews on the original ‘All Creatures’ TV series in May 2018 when I announced my new page for the series on my blog. I completed my reviews on Series 1 of the BBC TV show in August 2018. It was rewarding for me, as I’ve seen Series 1 more than once.
In November 2018, I completed my reviews on Series 2 of the BBC TV series. Whilst revisiting Series 3 of the original ‘All Creatures’ in February 2019, I enjoyed seeing Series 1 of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ starring Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy on TV.
I finished my reviews on Series 3 of the original ‘All Creatures’ in March 2019. Shortly, I shared my reviews on the 1983 and 1985 Christmas Specials in that month. By that point, I concluded my revisit of the original ‘All Creatures’ episodes that I’d already seen before.
As far as I’m concerned, the BBC series isn’t good in later seasons when Carol Drinkwater was replaced by Lynda Bellingham as Helen, James’ wife. Nothing against Lynda Bellingham’s casting, but I preferred it when Carol Drinkwater played Helen in the series.
I continued checking out more ‘All Creatures’ episodes in the original BBC TV series and I shared my reviews on Series 4 in June 2019. I later shared my reviews on Series 5 in August 2019. Whilst I don’t rate the latter BBC TV seasons very highly, they’re still enjoyable.
From October to November 2019, I enjoyed seeing Series 2 of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ starring Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy on TV. It was nice to see more of Peter and Chris on the TV whilst enjoying more of the original ‘All Creatures’ TV series. 🙂
Afterwards, I shared my reviews on Series 6 in November 2019 and I shared my reviews on Series 7 in February 2020. I assumed that would have been the end of my journey in checking out ‘All Creatures’ on TV, having finished sharing my reviews on the BBC TV show.
But then, a new ‘All Creatures’ series was shown on Channel 5 from September to October 2020 and it featured a new cast in Nicholas Ralph, Samuel West, Callum Woodhouse, Rachel Shenton and Anna Madeley. And I love it as much as the BBC TV series.
I did quick reviews on the six episodes of Series 1 and the 2020 Christmas Special upon transmission. In April 2021, I shared my in-depth reviews on Series 1 and 2 of ‘Great British Car Journeys’ and my in-depth reviews on Series 1 of the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series. 🙂
I enjoyed seeing the six episodes of Series 2 and the 2021 Christmas Special of the new TV series from September to December 2021. In August 2022, I shared my in-depth reviews on the 2020 Christmas Special and Series 2 of the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series.
I later shared quick reviews on Series 3 and the 2022 Christmas Special of the new ‘All Creatures’ series in 2022. I shared quick reviews on Series 4 and the 2023 Christmas Special in 2023. And I shared quick reviews on Series 5 and the 2024 Christmas Special in 2024.
I’m currently looking forward to sharing my reviews on Series 6 and the 2025 Christmas Special of the new ‘All Creatures’ TV series when the time comes. Checking out both the BBC and Channel 5 TV shows has been great and it’s good there’s more ‘All Creatures’ to watch.
Thanks for reading!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂

British shows where Doctor Who actors have found fame either before or after Doctor Who have always been interesting. Thank you, Tim, for your review of this one.

Hi scifimike,
The original ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ BBC TV series was where I first came across Peter Davison in 2003 before discovering he was in ‘Doctor Who’ in 2006. It’s amazing to think I would meet him in real-life in conventions afterwards.
Many thanks and Best wishes,
Tim 🙂
