Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
Happy Good Friday everyone! 🙂 The Easter holidays have begun and it’s time for me to share something special about this very special day. You may be surprised that I’m sharing a photo of fish and chips today. There’s a good reason why I’m sharing the photo.
Good Friday is a time for Christians to remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made to die on the cross to save us from our sins. It’s tradition to eat fish and chips on Good Friday and not meat, since Jesus sacrificed his flesh when he died on the cross many years ago.
When my parents and I have a meal on Good Friday, we don’t eat any meaty flesh like ham or chicken. Fish is a different kind of flesh and is favoured over meat on Good Friday. I’m looking forward to when my parents and I get to have our fish and chips meal for today. 🙂
Back in 2019, I shared about the meaning of eating hot cross buns and how it connects to Jesus’ death and resurrection. Good Friday is often considered a relaxing day, but it’s important to recall the meaning of eating hot cross buns and fish and chips at Easter time.
Eating fish is also viewed by some Christians as a symbol of Jesus. In Biblical times, some of Jesus’ disciples were fishermen. They were called to be ‘fishers of men’ when they joined him to spread the good news about his father’s kingdom in heaven and eternal life.
It’s what Christians do today with spreading the message of Jesus’ love for us and how he died on the cross to save us from our sins. The fish symbol, also called ichthys or ichthus, is used as the Christian symbol. The symbol is often be seen on the back of cars.
I’m greatly looking forward to checking out a film or a TV dramatisation of the Easter story today. Usually, my parents and I would see the fourth episode of ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ starring Robert Powell, as it depicts Jesus’ death and resurrection over the Easter period.

There’s also ‘The Miracle Maker’, a 2000 animated film starring Ralph Fiennes as the voice of Jesus. Last year, I shared my review on the 2004 film ‘The Passion of the Christ’, directed by Mel Gibson and starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus. It was an experience seeing it.
Back in 2023, I shared a quick review on ‘StreetWise’, which depicted biblical stories narrated by Roy Castle. I hope to do a review on the 1959 film ‘Ben-Hur’ for Easter in future and I would like to review the two animated films ‘The Prince of Egypt’ and ‘Joseph: King of Dreams’.
Those films have Biblical connections and feature amazing and meaningful stories in our walk with God and how we can connect with God through his Son Jesus Christ. Good Friday and Easter are very special to me, as I enjoy sharing my love of God and Jesus with you.
Here’s me wishing you well and I hope all of you will enjoy Good Friday today. Also hoping you enjoy your hot cross buns and fish and chips today if you eat them. 😀
My favourite Bible verse will always be:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life!” John Chapter 3 verse 16.
Happy Easter everyone! 🙂
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂

Have a nice Good Friday and Easter, Tim. ☮️

Thank you too, Tim. My family is not always keen on traditional foods for special days of the year. In fact instead of turkey for Christmas, we somehow settle for roast beef. Although for St. Patrick’s Day my mother this year made corn beef which is among my favorites. I was baptized Catholic although nowadays I consider myself spiritual rather than religious. That has thankfully made me open-minded to the religious traditions that many people have. What I always appreciate about Good Friday is how it reminds us that God’s mercy is always there for us thanks to Jesus.

Hi scifimike,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Good Friday. My parents and I had our fish fingers and chips for lunch yesterday. They were quite big fish fingers, I can tell you. 😆 Yeah, my parents and I don’t usually have turkey for Christmas dinner, as it’s very often roast chicken we have.
I always enjoy it when sharing these Easter blog posts about Jesus and God, especially when sharing the good news about Jesus’ love for us and how he died to save us from our sins. Usually on Good Friday, I find different ways of sharing Jesus’ death and resurrection. I’m pleased I came up with sharing about the tradition of eating fish and chips on Good Friday, as in a previous Good Friday post, I shared about hot cross buns and I wanted to share something similar to that. I don’t know what I’ll be sharing for Good Friday next year, though it would be nice to do a review on the 1959 film ‘Ben-Hur’, as I sometimes see that on Good Friday and Easter. I’m looking forward to what will be for Good Friday next year.
Yesterday, my parents and I saw ‘Part Four’ of ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ on YouTube. The version we saw contains all the scenes from the ITC VHS release, including Judas being manipulated and the opening of the Last Supper scene. Here’s the YouTube link for people to enjoy.
Many thanks for your comments.

You’re very welcome. I remember this adaptation you’ve shared. Robert Powell, an actor I’ve always liked, was quite memorable as Jesus.

Thanks scifimike,
Happy Easter today! Jesus has risen!
My parents and I tend to watch ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ (Part Four, at least) every year. It’s very moving, especially in the crucifixion scenes and on the day Jesus has risen. This and ‘The Miracle Maker’ work very well for me as Easter viewings.
I’m looking forward to hearing Robert Powell in the Big Finish audio story ‘Time Lord Immemorial’ with Christopher Eccleston and David Warner, once I get down to checking out the ‘Once and Future’ audio series.
Best wishes,
Tim 🙂
