Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Day 24 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2024.
Here’s the twenty-fourth and final Christmas recommendation by me on ‘Bradley’s Basement’.

To finish this year’s advent calendar, let’s talk about a Disney animated short film that I’m very fond of and I’ve seen on VHS and DVD. 🙂 ‘The Small One’ is a sweet story about a young boy who must sell and part with his dearest friend, an old donkey called Small One.
Small One ends up being bought by Joseph, who needs a donkey to take his wife Mary to Bethlehem. I like how the film builds up to establishing the first Christmas of the baby Jesus being born in Bethlehem and the star shining high in the night sky representing that.
This appeals to me as a Christian and it was nice to see how the boy and Small One’s friendship is presented throughout the film. The film’s animation by director Don Bluth is excellent and the songs featured throughout the film, such as ‘Small One’, are very good.
I’m saddened ‘The Small One’ is not available on Disney+ in the UK at this time. I thought it was. You’re able to see it on YouTube though. I currently own ‘The Small One’ on the ‘Countdown to Christmas’ DVD, which was released in 2001. I’m glad I can still see it. 🙂
The Nativity has been presented in various forms over the years, including the 2006 film ‘The Nativity Story’, which is my favourite version. But ‘The Small One’ is a good film to represent the Nativity, even if it’s presented briefly at the end. I definitely recommend this.
