It’s Day 22 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2024.

Here’s the twenty-second Christmas recommendation by me on ‘Bradley’s Basement’.

A UK TV tradition is to check out Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise in one of their Christmas Specials. Every year, audiences get to see Eric and Ernie in some form, whether it’s one of their Christmas Specials or a special TV programme dedicated to them.

I’ve reviewed Eric and Ernie’s BBC Christmas Specials on my blog and my favourite is their 1977 one. This is because it has more guest stars that were familiar to me from other TV shows, like Penelope Keith, well-known for playing Margo Leadbetter in ‘The Good Life’. 🙂

I enjoyed Penelope Keith performing opposite Eric and Ernie in their 1977 Christmas Special, especially in the scene where they’re walking down the stairs like Hollywood movie stars, and it goes wrong. Richard Briers and Paul Eddington are also in this special.

It was also funny to see the running gag going on throughout the special where Elton John tries to see Eric and Ernie and perform in their show, but he gets lost in the BBC Television Centre. Ironic since he appeared in the previous BBC Christmas Special made in 1976. 😐

There’s a moment where Elton John meets the ‘Dad’s Army’ cast, including Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier and John Laurie, in a steam room. It’s brief, but it’s enjoyably funny. If you want to see Morecambe and Wise this Christmas, I recommend their 1977 special. 🙂
