Hello everyone! 🙂
Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!
It’s Day 7 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2024.
Here’s the seventh Christmas recommendation by me on ‘Bradley’s Basement’.

One of the Big Finish audios of ‘Doctor Who’ that’s regularly listened to at Christmas time is ‘The Chimes of Midnight’, starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor and India Fisher as Charley Pollard. The story was released in 2002 and it’s a four-part audio adventure. 🙂
It’s a highly regarded ‘Doctor Who’ audio story by Big Finish, as it was repeated on BBC 7 (now BBC Radio 4 Extra) in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The story’s writer is Robert Shearman, who would go on to write ‘Dalek’ in the new TV series and he’s penned other audio stories.
This includes ‘The Holy Terror’, ‘Jubilee’ and ‘Scherzo’. It’s ironic ‘The Chimes of Midnight’ is listened to at Christmas time, since the story was released in February 2002. It’s also quite a spooky tale with pre-elements of ‘Downton Abbey’ thrown in if you listen carefully.
I’ve had my CD cover of ‘The Chimes of Midnight’ signed by Paul McGann at a ‘Cardiff Film and Comic Con’ in March 2014. I recall him saying how much he loves ‘The Chimes of Midnight’. I’ve also purchased the story on vinyl, which was released in September 2016.
I hope I’ll get a chance to revisit ‘The Chimes of Midnight’ on vinyl, along with the vinyl versions of ‘City of Death’, ‘Spare Parts’, ‘1963: Fanfare For The Common Men’ and ‘Echoes of Extinction’. Hearing a ‘Doctor Who’ vinyl at Christmas has become a tradition.
Thanks for reading!
Check out what Day 7 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendars for 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 were about!
Bye for now!
Tim 🙂
