Basement News – July 2023

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s been a while since my last ‘Basement News’ blog post, so here I am, sharing my latest ‘Basement News’ blog post in July. 😀 I’ve been very busy lately with so much to do in celebrating 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’. Let me share what’s been happening lately and what will be happening in July and beyond. 🙂

In terms of my ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon, I’ve shared my reviews on the TV stories featured in the Tom Baker/Fourth Doctor era from ‘Robot’ to ‘Logopolis’, the Peter Davison/Fifth Doctor era from ‘Castrovalva’ to ‘The Caves of Androzani’, and the Colin Baker/Sixth Doctor era from ‘The Twin Dilemma’ to ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’. I’m currently sharing my reviews on the Sylvester McCoy/Seventh Doctor era, which will end in July before I share the Paul McGann/Eighth Doctor era.

Shortly after that, I’ll be sharing my reviews on the John Hurt/War Doctor era and the Christopher Eccleston/Ninth Doctor. I’ve shared my summaries on Seasons 16, 17 and 18 in the Fourth Doctor era, my summaries on Seasons 19, 20 and 21 in the Fifth Doctor era, my summaries on Seasons 22 and 23 in the Sixth Doctor era, and my summaries on Seasons 24 and 25 in the Seventh Doctor era. I’ve also shared my 60th Anniversary Reflections on the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Doctors in the TV show.

I’ve shared some brand-new reviews on a few ‘Doctor Who’ audio productions by Big Finish. There’s my review on ‘Luna Romana’, the third and final adventure in ‘The Quadrigger Stoyn Trilogy’, starring Lalla Ward, Juliet Landau and Terry Molloy. I’ve also shared my reviews on the first two stories of ‘The Two Masters Trilogy’, including ‘And You Will Obey Me’, starring Peter Davison and Geoffrey Beevers, and ‘Vampire of the Mind’, starring Colin Baker and Alex Macqueen. I will soon be sharing my review on the third story of ‘The Two Masters Trilogy’ called ‘The Two Masters’, starring Sylvester McCoy, Geoffrey Beevers and Alex Macqueen. I will also be sharing my reviews on ‘The Witch From The Well’, starring Paul McGann and Julie Cox, and ‘Agents of Chaos’, starring Sir John Hurt and Jacqueline Pearce.

We’ve had the second trailer for the 60th anniversary TV specials of ‘Doctor Who’ released in May, which announced the titles of the three specials. Apparently, the 60th anniversary TV special story by Russell T. Davies is called ‘The Star Beast’/’Wild Blue Yonder’/’The Giggle’. I’m not sure what to make of the 60th anniversary TV specials yet, as there’s not much for me to be excited about so far. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the story with David Tennant and Catherine Tate, but for now, I’m dubious.

Speaking of 60th anniversary specials, I can announce my plans for the release of ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’. There will be a preview for the story, containing two introductions, the prologue and the first two chapters, which will be released on the 30th of September 2023 (the eighth anniversary of ‘Bradley’s Basement’). ‘Part I: The Gathering of the Doctors’ will be released in its entirety on the 6th of November 2023, ‘Part II: The Two Masterminds’ will be released on the 13th of November 2023, and ‘Part III: The Legacy of the Doctors’ will be released on the 20th of November 2023. Hopefully, all should go according to plan in terms of the story’s release. If there are hiccups, I’ll let you know.

A piece of good news about the new ‘Doctor Who’ TV series that came recently is that Bonnie Langford is set to reprise her role as Melanie Bush in Series 14 with Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. I’m excited about this. I’m looking forward to seeing how Mel makes her comeback in ‘Doctor Who’ from being in the TV series and doing the Big Finish audios. Hopefully, Mel’s return in ‘Doctor Who’ will be worthwhile.

I’ve got a couple of conventions to look forward to celebrate 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’. In September, I’ll be attending ‘Regenerations 2023’ in Swansea, where there’ll be guests like Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, Colin Baker, Frazer Hines, Wendy Padbury, Anneke Wills, Peter Purves, Matthew Waterhouse, Katy Manning, John Levene, Michael Jayston, Terry Molloy and Jo Martin. In November, I’m looking forward to attending the ‘Scarborough Comic Con’, where there’ll be guests like Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Sophie Aldred, Nicola Bryant and of course…Sarah Sutton. 🙂 I’m very excited about these conventions. I’m looking forward to them.

Back in May, I celebrated May the Fourth (‘Star Wars’ Day) by sharing quick reviews on the three ‘LEGO Star Wars’ specials – ‘The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’, ‘LEGO Star Wars: Terrifying Tales’ and ‘LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation’. I’m hoping to get back on track with more ‘Star Wars’ stuff in 2024. I’m hoping I’ll check out the ‘Andor’ series and Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ soon.

It was my birthday back in May. I enjoyed my birthday celebrations, which included checking out ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ at the cinema and having a meal at Frankie and Benny’s. I received two birthday presents from Stephen, my best friend from school, which were DVDs of the Mischief Theatre BBC TV production of ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’, starring David Suchet, and the 1994 film ‘Dumb and Dumber’, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Both DVDs were very entertaining to check out.

Going back to Peter Pan, I checked out the latest Disney+ movie called ‘Peter Pan & Wendy’. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but it was an interesting experience. Other films I’ve checked out on Disney+ include ‘The Strongest Man in the World’, ‘Spy Hard’, ‘Treasure of Matecumbe’, ‘Treasure Buddies’ and ‘Tall Tale’. On Netflix, I’ve also checked out the two live-action ‘Smurfs’ films starring Neil Patrick Harris.

On Disney+, I’ve finished checking out ‘The Muppet Show’ and have shared my thoughts on Seasons 4 and 5. I’m currently checking out ‘The Muppets Mayhem’ series on Disney+ and I hope to share a quick review on the series soon. I’m also currently checking out Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ on Amazon Prime Video. I’m hoping to finish the season soon and share a quick review on it on my blog.

At the cinema, I’ve seen the latest live-action remake of the 2023 Disney film ‘The Little Mermaid’. I’ve also seen ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ and ‘The Flash’. I’ve enjoyed these films, and already, I’ve seen ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ twice at the cinema. Lately on Disney+, I’ve been streaming the first four ‘Indiana Jones’ movies with Harrison Ford. Very soon, I shall be checking out the fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ movie called ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ at the cinema. I hope to share a quick review on all five ‘Indiana Jones’ films soon. I’m also looking forward to checking out the seventh ‘Mission: Impossible’ film, which is ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One’. I’ve seen the recent trailer for the movie and have shared my thoughts on it.

You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t shared my ‘Power Month’ review season of ‘Power Rangers’ episodes this month. I’ve decided to postpone my ‘Power Month’ review season for August instead of July this year. I’ve also decided that I’ll be doing just one ‘Power Month’ review season every year instead of doing two. I’ve been very busy with my ‘Doctor Who’ 60th anniversary stuff that it’s taken me a while to get my first ‘Power Month’ review season completed in time for July. There is plenty to look forward to in the first ‘Power Month’ review season, as I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the first half of Season 1 of ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ to celebrate 30 years of the action-packed TV series.

I’ve also got a week’s holiday in Amroth in West Wales in September to look forward to this year. I’m sure there’ll be blog posts shared whilst I’m away in Amroth, including the ongoing ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon blog posts. Hopefully, I’ll be sharing something else on my blog whilst I’m away. I don’t know if I’ll be doing a holiday report on Amroth this year or not. Let’s wait and see!

I’m pleased the rest of 2023 is looking to be brighter in terms of celebrating 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’. What with me sharing ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ in September and November, attending two conventions in September and November (one where I hope to see Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton again), and looking forward to a week’s holiday in Amroth where I’m sure the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th anniversary celebrations will be ongoing. Let’s hope that everything will go according to plan for the rest of 2023.

Many thanks for your continuing support on ‘Bradley’s Basement’ and please keep safe!

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
