Basement News – February 2023

Hello everyone! 🙂

Welcome to ‘Bradley’s Basement’ blog and I’m Tim Bradley!

It’s my first ‘Basement News’ blog post for this year here! 🙂 I’m still currently busy with sorting out blog posts to celebrate the 60th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’, my favourite sci-fi TV show, but I’m hoping to share with you what’s been happening on my blog this past month as well as give a preview on what’s to come in February and beyond.

At the start of 2023, I finished my 2022-23 ‘Nyssa Challenge’ mini-review season with reviews on the short stories featured in the ‘Short Trips: Transmissions’ collection, including ‘Tweaker’, featuring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. I also shared my reviews on the three stories in the ‘Tenth Doctor, Classic Companions’ box set, including ‘The Stuntman’, featuring the Tenth Doctor, Nyssa and K-9.

My 60th anniversary celebrations of ‘Doctor Who’ began with the start of the ‘Doctor Who’ 60th Anniversary Marathon, where I share my current reviews on the ‘Doctor Who’ stories in the TV series so far. The William Hartnell/First Doctor era is complete from ‘An Unearthly Child’ to ‘The Tenth Planet’, with summaries on Seasons 1, 2 and 3 and a reflection on the First Doctor. I’m currently sharing my current reviews on the Patrick Troughton/Second Doctor era with Season 4 complete and a summary to go with it.

Stephen Greif, Susan Penhaligon, Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton in ‘Primeval’.

I shared a new colour photo of the Big Finish ‘Doctor Who’ audio story called ‘Primeval’, featuring Peter Davison, Sarah Sutton, Susan Penhaligon and the late Stephen Greif. This was a nice opportunity to share the photo as a tribute to the late Stephen Greif (well-known for playing Travis in Series 1 of ‘Blake’s 7’), who passed away quite recently.

It was time for me to share another ‘convention memories’ blog post on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. In January, I shared my ‘convention memories’ on ‘Big Finish Day 6’ in Slough, January 2015. I’ll be sharing another ‘convention memories’ blog post soon in March this year. I don’t have plans for any conventions to attend in 2023 anytime soon, but I’m hoping there’ll be a convention for me to look forward to this year, especially with Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton as guests.

In terms of Big Finish, I’ve started sharing a set of audio-related reviews on ‘Doctor Who’ stories featuring each incarnation of the Doctor in the TV series to celebrate 60 years of the TV show. For the First Doctor era, I shared my review on ‘The Beginning’, featuring the First Doctor and Susan. I’m hoping to share a review on ‘The Dying Light’, featuring the Second Doctor, Jamie and Zoe to celebrate the Second Doctor era, sometime soon.

To commemorate my first meeting with Sarah Sutton at the ‘Fifth Element’ event back in February 2010, I shared my reviews on ‘The Doctor Who Cookbook’ by Gary Downie. This includes reviews on ‘The Doctor Who Cookbook’ itself as well as ‘The Doctor Who Cookbook Revisited’ items in the Season 23 Blu-ray box set, including the main documentary and the three bonus recipes. I’ve also cooked lasagne and spaghetti bolognese recently. 😀

I’ve recently finished writing ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, my upcoming 60th anniversary special of ‘Doctor Who’ for ‘Bradley’s Basement’. This will be released as a three-part story on my blog. I’m hoping to share this epic anniversary special in September this year. I’ve shared a bit of news and a poster for ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’ to whet the appetite. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the story when it comes out later this year.

Even though I saw the movie at the cinema in December 2022, I shared my review on ‘Matilda the Musical’ in January this year. I hope to see ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ sometime soon at the cinema. I know criticisms have been laid against the latest ‘MCU’ films compared to the latest DC superhero films, but I’m hoping to enjoy ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ regardless. 🙂

I shared quick reviews on a couple of Christmas presents I received from my best mate Stephen in 2022. These include the 2002 film ‘The Master of Disguise’ with Dana Carvey and the 2000 film ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ with Jeremy Irons. I enjoyed ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ more than ‘The Master of Disguise’. 😀 I’m hoping to see the upcoming ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ film soon at the cinema.

I’ve started something new on ‘Bradley’s Basement’, which is called the Disney+ Roundup. This is where I share a review on a couple of movies I’ve seen on Disney+ recently in one blog post. In January, I shared a Disney+ Roundup blog post on ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ and ‘Flubber’, both with Robin Williams. This month, I’ve recently reviewed ‘Stargirl’ and ‘The Absent-Minded Professor’ in one blog post. I’m hoping to share more Disney+ Roundup blog posts later in the year.

I’m checking out Series 12 of ‘Call the Midwife’ on BBC iPlayer. Like Series 11 last year, I hope to share an overall summary of Series 12 once I’ve finished the entire season, hopefully in February. I’m also checking out ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ on DVD, which I’m enjoying very much. I hope to share a summary on the complete series on DVD soon once I’ve finished it.

So far, 2023 hasn’t been that big for me so far in terms of celebrating 60 years of ‘Doctor Who’. Hopefully, the celebrations will come into full swing later in the year. I’m currently enjoying sharing my current ‘Doctor Who’ reviews in the 60th Anniversary Marathon as well as revisit each story in turn, whether it’d be on DVD, Blu-ray or on Britbox. I’m also pleased I’ve finished ‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, which I’m hoping to share in September. I pray it won’t be long for a convention to look forward to, especially with Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton as guests.

Thank you for your continuing support on my blog and please continue to keep safe!

Thanks for reading!

Bye for now!

Tim 🙂
