Hello everyone! 🙂
It’s Day 22 of ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar 2015.
Here’s another one of my favourite movie trilogies! It’s one of the best ever made in movie history and is wonderfully well-adapted from the books and well-directed by an amazing filmmaking team.

‘The Lord of the Rings’ is an epic, fantasy trilogy set in Middle-Earth about a quest to destroy the One Ring of power. Based on the books by J. R. R. Tolkien, this movie trilogy has won the hearts of millions of fans and I immensely love watching the film trilogy via the special extended edition DVDs.
My parents and I saw the first film, ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ when we were lent the DVD from neighbours in 2002. I wasn’t hooked into the film back then when I saw it. But in 2003, I re-watched ‘Fellowship’ and saw ‘The Two Towers’ and ‘The Return of the King’ and loved the trilogy so instantly.
2003 brings back happy memories for me. I saw ‘The Return of the King’ at the cinemas before Christmas 2003 and it became my favourite film out of the trilogy as I re-watched it again and again. I watched the extended versions of all three films and enjoyed the extra scenes featured in them.
Director Peter Jackson and his amazing team of filmmakers in New Zealand have done a fantastic job making this movie trilogy full of epic fantasy value. Recently, Peter Jackson’s film-making team returned to Middle-Earth when they made ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy in 2012-2014 which was great to see!
I’ve posted DVD reviews on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ film trilogy and on the radio series on my Middle-Earth page on ‘Bradley’s Basement’. I hope to post DVD reviews on ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy soon. ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is a movie trilogy that I highly recommend as I immensely enjoyed watching it.
Thanks for reading.
Bye for now!
Tim. 🙂

I love these movies, everything just slots together seamlessly. It is a masterpiece of immense vision and deep emotion.

Thanks vinnieh. Very pleased you like this trilogy. It’s one of the best and whilst ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy was good, it’s not a patch brilliant as ‘The Lord of the Rings’. Greatly appreciate your comments. Tim. 🙂

I’ve watched the first and second Hobbit and will soon see the third. And while they have greatness, they just can’t match the Lord of the Rings. If you check out my site, I have reviewed the trilogy.

Any new film or TV adaptation trying to recapture the magic of The Lord Of The Rings is inevitably a most difficult task. Just look at all the creative trouble that Star Wars in its following trilogies went through. Even with the best people at the helm, the best of the best for the final products may only go so far.

Hi scifimike,
I’ve yet to see ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series on Amazon Prime Video, though I haven’t heard many good things about it. I’m sure I’ll see the series someday, though I’ll have to get through Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’ first, which I’m currently enjoying, as well as other shows on Disney+ I’ve not seen yet. It’s a shame about the ‘Star Wars’ sequels trilogy, as it had a decent start in ‘The Force Awakens’ before it went downhill in ‘The Last Jedi’.
Many thanks for your comments.

I felt The Force Awakens was a decent start at least too. I didn’t find that there was any originality to it. But as new Star Wars I could relate to the appeal. Rogue One was a lot better though.

Hi scifimike,
Yeah ‘Rogue One’ is the best recent ‘Star Wars’ movie ever made and I’ve enjoyed the Disney+ shows like ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. I’ve lot to catch up on with the ‘Andor’ series and Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’.
My main issue with the sequels trilogy is that J.J. Abrams didn’t handle all three movies to make the entire story in the trilogy consistent. Whilst the prequels trilogy has had a lot of flack over the years, at least it had George Lucas telling his story from beginning to end in a consistent albeit flawed manner from ‘Episodes I to III’. ‘The Last Jedi’ is quite out of place as a ‘Star Wars’ movie, and it annoys me that Rian Johnson didn’t follow through with what J.J. Abrams started in setting up the characters and enhancing their journeys in a satisfactory manner. While a Rian Johnson trilogy of ‘Star Wars’ movies would have been interesting to see, I’m not sure how well-received it would have been following the backlash ‘Last Jedi’ got.
Many thanks,
Tim 🙂

You’re welcome. It’s all the short Star Wars fan films on YouTube making headway, particularly Premonition, that I find most amazing.

Hi scifimike,
Thanks for letting me know about the ‘Star Wars’ fan films on YouTube like ‘Premonition’. I’ve yet to see those.

You’re welcome. Premonition is done by a fan film company called “Sabercomp” and it was supposed to have won an award. There’s also a short Kenobi fan film from a few years ago that impressed a lot of fans.

Hi scifimike,
Thanks for letting me know about these ‘Star Wars’ fan films. I know there’s also been some ‘LOTR’ fans films, including one for Gollum called ‘The Hunt for Gollum’. Hopefully that’s a lot better than the ‘Gollum’ video game that came out this year, as that hasn’t been well-recieved and isn’t favoured highly. 😀
Thanks,
Tim 🙂

Given the most controversial characters of Gollum, I can imagine how difficult a game based on his character would be for even his best fans. Thanks for telling me about it.

Hi scifimike,
No worries. I don’t play video games myself, but I heard from my best friend from school how terrible the ‘Gollum’ game is, and when I looked up some of the reviews and the poor ratings it got (I’ve just seen the Honest Game Trailer for it), I was shocked. I would have thought it would have gotten better reviews, especially after all the promotion it had in terms of trailers and such.
Best wishes,
Tim 🙂
