‘THE PERIL OF PARAFINO’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

In this, Spider-Man faces a new villain called Parafino, who happens to be a wax museum owner. I don’t believe Parafino has featured in the ‘Spider-Man’ comics and is just a new villain created for the 1960s TV series. This is another example where the 1960s series isn’t very faithful to the comics.

Anyway, Parafino plans to make Spider-Man into his latest exhibit after he manages to capture escaped convict Red Dog Melvin (yes, I’m serious here) and uses him as bait for Spidey. Once Spidey takes that bait, Parafino uses a wax sculpture of himself to catch him. He traps Spidey on a pedestal.

Betty Brant also gets in on the action when she’s sent by Jameson to Parafino’s museum to find Peter Parker when he goes missing. Betty gets captured by Parafino before Spider-Man manages to free himself and destroy the wax Parafino by increasing the heat. I admit, I was so surprised by that.

Thankfully, Spidey manages to have Parafino and Melvin captured by the police and Jameson ends the story by moaning about Spider-Man always ends being the hero. My Dad commented how Stan Lee isn’t even mentioned in the episodes’ end credits for this early attempt of a ‘Spider-Man’ series.

‘The Peril of Parafino’ rating – 7/10
