‘TABLET OF TIME’ (Part 1)
It’s time for a two-parter that sort-of takes a break from the main storyline of Spider-Man becoming a mutant. In the first episode ‘Tablet of Time’, an ancient relic has been discovered in an Amazonian temple. It grants people youth and long life. This of course is something so many people would want.
Of these people, there’s the Kingpin of course. It was fascinating to see the Kingpin in training, fighting against a number of wrestlers whilst hearing the news of the tablet of time on TV. It emphasises how dangerous the Kingpin is and that he isn’t just the big fat man in command of crime.
There’s also Silvermane, who’s also interested in the tablet of time. Silvermane is an old man and wants to be young again. He sends in Hammerhead, who sort-of becomes Silvermane’s henchman I believe, to steal the tablet once it arrives in America. Spidey thankfully stops Hammerhead in time. 🙂
Interestingly, Hammerhead’s head happens to be made out of adamantium. Are he and Wolverine from the X-Men related? 😀 Silvermane, disappointed with Hammerhead’s efforts, dismisses him from his services. He soon employs Tombstone, a white-skinned tough man to get the tablet for him.
This episode features the appearance of Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Fisk’s wife (voiced by Caroline Goodall). Vanessa isn’t happy with her husband’s money-making in crime as the Kingpin. The Kingpin won’t give up being a crime boss and it soon gets Vanessa into jeopardy once Tombstone chases after her and takes her as a hostage.
We’re also introduced to Silvermane’s daughter, Alisa. It’s intriguing how she gets revealed as Silvermane’s daughter. Peter’s quite into her and asks her out on a dinner date whilst Mary Jane is dating Harry Osborn. Alisa helps her father Silvermane with the scheme to acquire the tablet of time.
This episode also has Spidey fight against a new robot spider slayer that Alistair Smythe has built. Smythe built the robot so that he could steal the tablet of time whilst it was at ESU’s lab. The robot’s attacks on Connors at the ESU labs and at his home cause him to turn into the terrifying Lizard again.
It was tense when Spider-Man chased after the Lizard in the sewers and tried to tame him in the episode. He manages to get him back to ESU where he attempts to reverse the transformation from Lizard back into Connors. This is before Tombstone enters and attacks Spidey, trying to get Connors….
‘RAVAGES OF TIME’ (Part 2)
In ‘Ravages of Time’, Tombstone doesn’t kill Spider-Man and ends up stealing Connors away. Thankfully, Spidey survives and tries to follow Tombstone with Connors who takes him to where Silvermane’s base is. Connors is made to work on the tablet of time to make Silvermane young again.
The episode also has Alisa Silver/Alisa Silvermane getting captured by Hammerhead and his goons on the orders of the Kingpin. The Kingpin soon sees his wife Vanessa Fisk as a prisoner of Silvermane whilst he’s got his daughter Alisa. Soon, an exchange gets made between the two crime parties here.
Silvermane is to hand over Vanessa and Connors whilst the Kingpin agrees to hand over Alisa. It turns out to be a double-cross when Alistair Smythe controlling the Mega-Slayer robot captures all three – Vanessa, Alisa and Connors. Soon, all-out crime war ensues with Hammerhead joining in too.
It was pretty insane to see the battle between the crime groups of the Kingpin and Silvermane in the episode. Spidey swings in to try and rescue Connors as well as his wife Margaret. He also tries to rescue Alisa from Hammerhead’s clutches, but soon gets knocked out once Alisa fires her gun at him.
It comes as a shock and surprise when Spidey learns that Alisa is Silvermane’s daughter. Peter missed out on his date with Alisa before discovering the truth about her. Spidey is also surprised that Silvermane is that old man he rescued during ‘Battle of the Insidious Six’. He seemed a nice old man.
Connors gets enlisted again to help Silvermane as he and his goons acquire the tablet of time from Kingpin. Silvermane gets to young again when activating the tablet in an Amazon temple replica. He get young again, his hopes are swayed once he starts regressing into a child before becoming a baby.
Alisa and Tombstone escape with the baby Silvermane before blowing their place up. Connors transforms into the Lizard once again under stress, but thankfully Spidey manages to tame him. All is well with Connors and his family. Meanwhile, Vanessa leaves her husband due to his crime activities.
‘Tablet of Time’/’Ravages of Time’ has been an enjoyable two-parter in the ‘Spider-Man’ series. It was shocking that Silvermane got turned into a baby at the end, but that’s not the last we’ll see of him. The Kingpin refuses the tablet of time and Hammerhead soon gives it to an old man in shadows.
‘Tablet of Time’/’Ravages of Time’ rating – 8/10
