‘ROLLARAMA’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

Did I say that I’d given up on this ‘Spider-Man’ series in a previous review? Well, I’m wondering if this ‘Spider-Man’ series has given upon itself by this point. ‘Rollarama’ happens to be a remake of the Season 2 episode called ‘Vine’. If I’m honest, ‘Vine’ is a superior episode compared to ‘Rollarama’. 😀
The episode has Peter Parker and his girlfriend Sue (Peter keeps changing girlfriends in this series! Why couldn’t it have been Mary Jane or Betty Brant all the way through?) at an old house going through its attic and they discover a big seed that responds quickly to sunlight. Yeah! Sound familiar?
What’s ironic is that the girl Sue in this episode looks exactly like Jackie from the ‘Vine’ episode. Why couldn’t they have dyed the girl’s hair black to distinguish the two girls from each other?! Watching this episode had me thinking that I was watching the same story as featured in ‘Vine’ from Season 2.
Putting the seed aside, Sue discovers a large machine – the Glutz machine – in the attic. I could say Professor Von Glutz, who owns the house and the machine, travelled back in time to 3 million B.C., but I don’t think it’s made clear the machine is a time machine. You could end up on another planet!
Soon, the seed grows to hundredfold in size and it rolls through the side of the house and into the streets of New York, smashing everything in its path. I could try and do a comparison on ‘Vine’ and ‘Rollarama’ to see what’s similar and different, but at the rate we’re going, I just can’t be bothered.
Spidey soon heads off into the Glutz machine and ends up in Summit City, which is the home of several creatures called vegetons. The difference between ‘Vine’ and ‘Rollarama’ is that Spidey doesn’t get to meet the professor character in ‘Rollarama’ as opposed to ‘Vine’. I do wonder why. 😐
The vegetons have been driven out of the city by the cold, caused by a nuclear generator created by Von Glutz. Spidey soon heads off to the city where it’s been taken over by other plants. He hopes to destroy the generator that’ll destroy the rolling pods, including the one that’s in New York City itself.
There are some bizarre animation moments featured in this episode, like when the chief evil plant has its throne taken away in one shot before it gets put back in another. But then, that sums up this remake of ‘Vine’ in a nutshell. The animation comes across as lazy and not caring in being consistent.
‘Rollarama’ rating – 2/10
