‘YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED’ (DS9)
Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is it! This is the episode where Worf and Jadzia finally get married. It’s been teased about throughout Season 5 and the early part of Season 6 of ‘DS9’, but they finally get married in this story.
The episode begins with the continual celebrations of DS9’s victory against the Dominion in ‘Sacrifice of Angels’. Sisko is happy to be back on DS9 and Kira is happy to not look at Gul Dukat’s face again. 🙂
Worf and Jadzia also agree to get married on DS9 rather than on the Klingon home-world of Qo’noS. This is so Worf’s son, Marc Worden as Alexander Rozhenko, can attend the wedding and not at all. 😀
Alexander is also invited to be Worf’s sword-bearer…or his best man at the wedding. Worf and Jadzia have a lot to prepare in a short space of time and it isn’t without its obstacles in the making. 😐
Jadiza has to endure the traditional evaluation by the mistress of the House of Martok, Shannon Cochran as Sirella, who is Martok’s wife. Huh! I had no idea that J.G. Hertzler as Martok was married.
All of this must be done so that Jadzia can join the House of Martok and be married to Worf. Unfortunately, Sirella is rather hard to please as Jadzia struggles to win her favour to be accepted. 😐
I think Sirella’s prejudices are pretty evident since Jadzia isn’t a Klingon woman herself and it seems unheard of a Klingon male marrying a non-Klingon woman. I wish many Klingons were open-minded.
Worf and Martok seem open-minded, but they have to abide by certain Klingon traditions. That often frustrates Jadzia when she wishes to be playful whilst Worf is frustrated in being really serious.
It’s interesting Sirella disapproves of Worf being a member of the House of Martok as well as disapproving Dax. Worf asks Martok to help, but Martok refuses to interfere with Sirella’s manner. 😐
Worf soon has his bachelor party with Alexander, Sisko, O’Brien and Bashir joining him and Martok in the holosuite. They go on Kal’Hyah, which is so unlike any bachelor party the humans are used to.
Kal’Hyah happens to be a multi-day ceremonial ordeal full of fasting, bloodletting and other physical trials. I feel for O’Brien and Bashir. I don’t think I would like to have my bachelor party be like that. 😀
As Jadzia struggles to please Sirella, she soon has her bachelorette party, which is full of energy compared to Worf’s bachelor party. It involves drink, debauchery and a fire dancer friend of Dax’s. 😮
Everyone attends Jadzia’s bachelorette party, including Jake, Quark, Kira, Chase Masterson as Leeta, Aron Eisenberg as Nog and Max Grodénchik as Rom! Even Rom does the funny Ferengi-like dance. 😀
It was also nice to see Odo and Kira making up with each other following the events of the previous few episodes. The two have been avoiding each other since and they finally get to talk to each other.
I wish we could’ve seen their scenes though. Whilst the party goes on, Sirella enters and demands Jadzia join her for a ritual. Jadzia refuses, telling her to leave. Sirella threatens to cancel the wedding.
A knife fight also ensues, to which Sirella declares Jadzia an enemy. The next day, Jadzia has a hangover as Worf comes in to inform her that Sirella has forbidden her to join the House of Martok.
He asks Jadzia to beg forgiveness from Sirella, but Jadzia refuses to endure any further humiliation so that Worf can have his Klingon ceremony. After sharing harsh words, the two call off the wedding. 😦
Fortunately, Martok persuades Worf to apologise to Jadzia, knowing that he loves her. Jadzia still refuses to change her mind when Worf tries to apologise to her. Sisko soon goes and talks to Jadzia.
In her quarters, Jadzia feels humiliated as she reminds Sisko that as Curzon Dax she was the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire. But Sisko points out that she isn’t Curzon anymore. 😐
Thankfully, Jadzia is warmed by her love for Worf. Soon, Worf and Jadza are married in everyone’s presence by the episode’s end and with Sirella’s blessing. I would’ve liked to have seen that more. 🙂
‘You Are Cordially Invited’ is a nice episode to establish Worf and Jadzia getting married. It was fun to see these two go through the process of getting married, especially after the Dominion War arc. 🙂
On Disc 7 of the ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – Season 6’ DVD, there’s the documentary ’24th Century Documentary’ to enjoy.
