‘THE EMISSARY’ (TNG)
Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a ‘Star Trek: TNG’ episode for Worf’s character. It has him reunite with his an old flame. I enjoyed this episode very much and it was interesting to see how Worf rekindled with his old flame.
In the episode, the Enterprise is sent on a mission to pick up a Federation emissary. The emissary travel in a probe and this happens to be a half-Klingon, half-human. This is Suzie Plakson as K’Ehleyr.
It also transpires K’Ehleyr knows Worf, as they happened to be in a relationship together. Worf wants nothing to do with K’Ehleyr when she returns in his life, making for some interesting tension.
It was interesting to have a ‘Star Trek’ character that was half-Klingon, half-human like K’Ehleyr in the episode. This was way before B’Elanna Torres was introduced for the ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ series.
I liked the scenes that K’Ehleyr has with Deanna Troi when escorted to her guest quarters. K’Ehleyr reveals some of her family history to Deanna, as her mother was human and her father was Klingon.
K’Ehleyr also mentions that she can have a temper which she tries to keep under control. This is something she fails to do after she’s seen Worf and finds it difficult to work with him on the mission.
Speaking of which, the mission is to deal with a Klingon ship full of Klingons that have been asleep in suspended animation. The Klingon ship called the T’Ong was launched 75 years ago in a time of war.
This was when the Klingons and the Federation were warring against each other during ‘The Original Series’. These Klingons don’t know the war is over and they need to be stopped from killing others.
K’Ehleyr suggests destroying the Klingon ship since the T’Ong will show no mercy. But Picard is determined to find another solution and suggests that K’Ehleyr works with Worf in order to find this.
Worf isn’t too happy about working with K’Ehleyr, due to personal reasons. It was interesting to see Worf in a situation like this and for him experiencing strong emotions that he isn’t comfortable with.
Very soon, after a disagreement with Worf, K’Ehleyr decides to rid her temper and frustration by going into the holodeck. K’Ehleyr uses one of Worf’s programs seen from ‘Where Silence Has Lease’.
Worf soon joins K’Ehleyr in the holodeck and joins her fighting some monsters. This results in some Klingon sexual interaction between Worf and K’Ehleyr, which was interesting and so unusual to see.
After sitting around and talking for a bit in the holodeck, Worf begins to declare a Klingon oath of marriage for him and K’Ehleyr. This is something that has K’Ehleyr so outraged before she storms off.
It was intriguing how Worf honours by his Klingon oaths and traditions whereas K’Ehleyr isn’t willing to partake in. It provides more tension between them, as K’Ehleyr wants something else from Worf.
K’Ehleyr wants to know if there’s something more than just honour on Worf’s part for the oath of marriage. This is something Worf’s reluctant to reveal. Eventually he says there is before she leaves.
In the episode, Worf gets to dress up as a Klingon captain of the Enterprise to convince the Klingons on the T’Ong, led by Lance LeGault as K’Temoc, the war is over. This is after Starfleet diplomacy fails.
It was fun to see Worf in Klingon gear with K’Ehleyr by her side as they speak to K’Temoc and convince him the war is over. Worf threatens to fire upon the Klingons for them to die in ignorance.
But K’Temoc eventually surrenders and soon the Klingons are helped by K’Ehleyr to be welcomed into the 24th century. I did like it when Worf says that the captain’s chair is comfy once he’s finished.
The episode ends with Worf and K’Ehleyr saying goodbye to each other. It’s a tense farewell, but Worf tells K’Ehleyr that he will not be complete without her. This means K’Ehleyr will return to ‘TNG’.
Colm Meaney guest stars as Chief O’Brien in the episode, helping to get K’Ehleyr’s probe aboard the Enterprise. I do get the impression Season 2 of ‘TNG’ hasn’t been a great run of episodes for O’Brien.
‘The Emissary’ has been an enjoyable episode for Worf’s character in ‘TNG’. I like how he develops as a character in this and how it’s further explored with his romantic relationship to K’Ehleyr in the tale.
‘The Emissary’ (TNG) rating – 7/10
